Model Railroading has always been my passion. I think I was born with a train "bug". That's a good thing. In each of the homes my wife and I have lived I have built a HO gauge train layout. Some were short shelf layouts and others around the room and still others in the middle. The one I have now has been a combination of all of them and is my ideal train layout. My dream come true.

That's a lot of mustard 😁
Good eye! I didn't even notice that as I took the video.
Very cool
Thanks Josiah!
Question, Curt, how long did it take to run all the trains currently on the board?
@@AModelRailroadNewbie Hi Glynn, it takes about 3 months.
Awesome looking layout with lots going on👍
Thanks much!
Nice running. Thanks for sharing!
Its always a personal choice : Many modellers these days work with styrofoam. I am myself still doing everything with gypsum plaster. Ofcourse plaster adds a lot of weight, but I think you can carve more easy. But it creates a bigger mess. :-)
That's what I really like about Model Railroading...you can do whatever you want if it works for you. It doesn't have to follow any kind of man-made rules to play. It's the best. If people don't like it, it doesn't really matter, because it's not their layout.
Always impressive these double stack container trains in USA and their length also on the modelrailroad layout.
Thanks for your comment. I've subscribed to your channel and looking forward to catching up on your content.
Great video and thanks for sharing. Dave
Thanks Dave. Much appreciated.
I spotted your ‘J’ diamond crossing at MP32….if you’re going for realism, you’ll need to shorten that distance to MP 30 as MP 32 is the old WX ( today’s Kress ) crossovers….
Very good eye! I really appreciate your attention to detail. What was really interesting is I tried to use scale model miles and match them to the prototype. I was only off by 2 miles. I'm pretty happy with that. Thanks again for noticing :)
EVEN TRAINS WILL ACT LIKE TRUCKS!???
do you mean you've seen a train on the road before?
Excellent running session. Thanks for sharing. Dave
Thanks Dave, I wonder what will interest people and it's good when you comment and let me know what you liked. Much appreciated. Curt
Watching that CNW freight, I kept saying I got that car…I got that car…nice run
Thanks, those same cars unite our modeling world. Pretty cool. Thanks for commenting.
Nice manifest run!
Was it too slow?
@@CurtBergStillLoves2PlayTrainsSpeed looked fine to me. Not every train is going to be a 60Mph express. Many factors also govern speed such as location, yard limits, slow orders, etc. Throwing in things like slow orders for a specific location, having to set out a bad car, etc. can also add to the realism and challenge your operators!
Hi
Hi Daren, thanks for watching.
The more trains we buy and build the more the staging yards get full. Lol.
Yeah, no kidding. Good to hear back from you. I've missed your comments.
Great update, thanks.
Got any Milwaukee Road Curt?
I started out my modeling career using Milwaukee Rd. But the engines were retired after many hours of operations. Now I model the CNW and UP circa 1995 when UP bought out CNW.
Good video Curt! How do you determine which locomotives to assign?
I track the time and which train each locomotive set is assigned. I check any trains that haven't been assigned and then, by date, I pick the next one that is due. Make sense? I have a video on how I do that. I will see if I can forward that to you.
You’re on fire! Loving the content. Hey friend ! 13 up
Thanks. I'm glad you appreciate the hard work.
Hi by chance is your dad’s name Carl? I knew a Carl berg from Bellwood if so let me know
I don't know a Carl Berg from Bellwood.
Nice video, Curt. Love watching trains run...
Thanks Glynn, I really enjoy all aspects of the hobby, but especially watching the trains run. If it weren't for that, what's the point?
Wonderful seeing this masterpiece under construction. One thought, get that man a hot knife/wire foam cutter. The kits are as cheap as $20 these days and the mess is considerably less with none of the little crumbs going everywhere.
He's so "old school" he probably wouldn't be able to get the same character out of the foam as doing it the old fashioned way. To each his own, right? Great suggestion though. Thanks for watching and your thoughtful comment.
Great share Curt looks great little run ops Have a great day and enjoy those trains
Things happen on the RR that sometimes gets frustrating, but it doesn't get in the way of enjoying the RR.
Can you town down your opening just a little, it is blowing out my speakers so I need to turn it down but your level for voice is too low and need to be increased again.
Yes, I will do that. I did notice that as well, but was too quick to produce and didn't git'r'done.
I’ve have ridden that train from Wheaton into Chicago. That was 30 years ago! Neat to “ride” it again
That's my plan. Relive some memories. Thanks for helping me achieve my goals.
Very cool, too bad I couldn't join you guys at the EMRRC
Yeah, I'm sorry it didn't work out, but I'm going to keep trying. So continue to let me know when you're out and about.
You have a nice beautiful layout
Thank you! It's very satisfying to hear others appreciate my layout. Model Railroading is a great hobby.
Omg, hamburger heaven. I have not been there since the 80’s. Now I have something else to do next weekend! Nice video.
You just never know where you might end up when you're on a train trip...
@@CurtBergStillLoves2PlayTrainsI would grab a burger there when I stopped at Al’s hobby shop down the street. I miss that place.
Been to a lot of those places!
We were going to go to the West Chicago diamonds, but when we left Elmhurst it was raining pretty hard. Maybe next time!
Great share curt cool video
Thanks for commenting. It's good to know someone liked it! :)
Good times!
Yes, indeed!
I just came across your channel recently and I made sure to subscribe. This is an awesome layout you have going here and I really like how things are implemented! One of many things I really stink at which I see was pulled off greatly here is maximization of space. But yeah, awesome layout you have.
Thank you. It has taken me a long time to figure it all out. I've lived in 7 different homes and each one had a layout. Each layout getting better as I learn more about the hobby and operations. I'm very pleased with where I am right now and will continue to tweak procedures and details on the layout. Thank you for noticing! Great comment!
Great video, Curt. I looking forward to you guys doing mine.....
Very cool, there’s so many ways to do scenery nowadays, even cheap hacks that look pretty good
Very nice. I grew up in Oak Park in the 70/80’s and went to Oak Park River Forest high school. What area is this layout located?
I live in Saint Charles IL. I commuted to Chicago from West Chicago in the 90's and model the Metra West Line circa 1995 (very loosely) in my basement.
Love the airplane view of your layout Curt.
I'm not the best videographer, but I enjoy sharing my rr with others. Thanks for your feedback!
Great layout. Love all the detail. I like the way you organized the trays. 👍👍
Excelente maqueta❤
Gracias!
Curt, how big is your layout?
I have a section that goes to the Powder River Basin which is about 16 feet. The main RR is 25' x 29'. It's more than what I bargained for, but I'm glad I did what I did.
Relaxing watching the scenery go by at double speed. 🙂
Cool layout. Love the metra station
Thanks for coming back and viewing/commenting on more videos. Much appreciated.
Love the metra train ready to leave track 3. Good memories of a Friday night in summer heading up to Evanston to see friends. I will say they are a strange design with one door in the middle. Compare to the Sydney double decker trains for commuters.
It would make more sense to have two entrances, but maybe they managed more riders having only 1 entry. Not sure of the real reason why. Very good to hear from you. Thanks for your thoughts.
Metra’s new order of cars they were supposed to get from Alstom were going to have two doors I believe but that order has been cancelled now that they received the SD70MACHs
@@UPRailfan Very interesting! Thanks for responding to Michael's 2-door observation comment.
Wonderful layout. Thanks for sharing. Dave
Thanks for watching, Dave. It's a great hobby and one that is fun to spread the passion of trains.
We will let you know about the outcomes.
First time I see we can comment. Great. Really enjoyed this video. Love your attention to detail.
So glad you watch my videos. I'm anxious to hear about the tournament!
Well let's see the layout!
Nice update!! Hey is there a way to lift up the top of the commuter terminal station if one of the trains had derailed inside? The train with the UP car looks kinda off or the locomotive in front of it is crooked.
Very good observation. I will take a closer look and make sure that is corrected on the next video. I can lift the top section to expose the wiring, but it would be a major overhaul to lift the full top section to get to the cars. I do have a problem with the track bumpers. Some are off and need to be put back in place. I will need to remove the end glass piece and I should be able to correct the problem. I will work on this project to be included in next week's layout update. Thanks again for watching AND commenting.
@@CurtBergStillLoves2PlayTrains Ok I hope you can fix it. sounds like it will be a bit tough though.
I fixed the track bumpers. They are back in place. I checked the UP passenger car and the CNW locomotive and commuter car and they were all correctly placed on the tracks. That was good. I could still reach them from the sides of the terminal. Just wanted to give you the final update.
@@CurtBergStillLoves2PlayTrains Awesome!! I was worried that it would be hard to reach.
Layout looks fantastic. Thanks for posting
Just to have one person say what you say is worth the effort to post my videos. Thanks a lot!
Lots of work to run a train, but keeps everything organized. Nice work
Thanks Glynn. Time for another video. I miss hearing from you.
Excellent share layout looks great have fun running trains that’s what it’s all about 😎🚂🫵
It's a simple layout and it has all the features I've ever wanted. I agree, having fun together is what makes it all worth while. Thanks for commenting. I've seen your videos and you're an amazing modeler. Such precision and details. Not many are like you!
