Someone was jamming the Hurricane Watch Net on 20 meters during Hurricane Beryl
มุมมอง 4.3K21 วันที่ผ่านมา
Here is video of someone jamming the Hurricane Watch Net on 20 meters by playing music. The Hurricane Watch Net gathers weather info from impacted areas during a hurricane and passes that on to the The National Hurricane Center in Miami. They also handle emergency traffic from the impacted areas. It’s really sad that anyone would jam this net during a hurricane.

Renew for another year for $50/year (no subscriptions/contracts/monthly fees). And depending how you read that, that is probably $50 per radio. That is how I read it. The 'government' is actively waging a quiet war against ham and grms. Doing things like this makes it less dependable to use it for comms when you need it most, so many will turn away from it (but many more wont). As usual, it's an irritant that doesn't accomplish their goals. What their goal is, to ultimately make communication difficult or impossible for times ahead. They do NOT want you communicating in a manner they cannot easily monitor. Organization requires communication and they do NOT want anyone outside of themselves to be able to organize. Do the math, I don't need to get specific here, you know how this rolls.

It would be nice if the FCC would focus on offenders such as this, rather than nitpicking and fining people for minor infractions that don't interfere with anyone... I mean, people get fined for the stupidest things, and yet we've had people coming on to our net just to repeat racial slurs and the fcc does not seem to care at all. It's almost as if they just want to fine whoever is the easiest to do so. Hmm🤨

Womp womp.. Have a backup plan 🤷🏼‍♂️ if us ham radio operators want to act like we are vital in emergencies but we don’t have a backup plan for when things aren’t working, our usefulness in an emergency is laughably low. The solution isn’t making a video to complain, it’s to create backup plans where those people/entities that are jamming us don’t matter or are worked around. What happens when your own government or another government tries to jam your communications in a bad scenario? There is already plenty of censorship online already. That will be way worse and way easier for them, than something like this. Are we really equipped for true emergencies if we can’t even work around some random goofball playing music? No we aren’t. Plan accordingly. Edit: I'm NOT defending the jammer. I'm simply trying to focus on our need to roll with the punches and not be jammed easily during emergency situations.

Hams represent the full spectrum of humanity, including the best of humanity and the worst of humanity. Frankly, jamming a secondary net is minor compared to the people that go in after the hurricane and take advantage of the people that suffered during the storm. It's also nothing new....this behavior has been around since I first got on radio in the 80's. The difference is that social media allows for faster and fuller dissemination of that behavior.

I've got news for you. This is nothing new. Malicious interference has been around for decades during nets, and yes, even emergency nets, health and welfare traffic nets, and any other type you can think of. I recall hearing it happening back in the late 1970's and throughout the 80's. The best way to deal with it is to completely and unequivocally ignore it. NO ONE make mention of it on the air. Period. All the QRM'ers want is recognition and attention. Deny them this thrill. They will eventually get bored and stop.

Hi Keith. I have seen the other TH-cam video. The net you are defending isn't even called AMATEUR martime etc net. These hams are most un-ham like and I suspect it is the good behaviour of other hams over the years, that has enabled a culture to exist where one small group of hams can claim a frequency. I see in your video where in the past they did move to a free space. I say "Fair Use". From your description of one net "handing over" to another, that this is not Fair Use. Certainly not my definition of fair anyway. What would happen if a motorcycling group decided to have an net? Or every other fringe group. Maritime users have their own frequencies to carry out maritime business. Amateur Bands are for amateur business. The old argument about Marine radios being too expensive to but tells me exactly what sort of people are setting out in a very large and very dynamic environment. If they do not value their safety... I was led to believe that boats didn't get clearance to leave a country unless they had the right radios? Cheers Dave Creek ZL3DRC

Seems to me that they, for the large part, play nice with other hams. It doesn't matter if it is useful or not. That is totally immaterial to the conversation. They can get on there and talk about bubblegum if they wish. They are using the frequency as it is intended. No, they don't own the frequency, but for crying out loud, if they have the commitment to get on there everyday to work the frequency, then let them in peace. I don't see it as hurting anything. If nothing else, it is a place to net in and make sure your equipment works. There are lots of frequencies. Use another one. I swear some hams complain about everything. Nobody on the bands, complain. Someone using the bands complain. Net too short, complain. Too long, complain.
