Kate Winslet, Judi Dench, are examples. Maggie Smith transformed herself into different people and different worlds, from upper class dragons to the down and out lady in the van. One character she played and for me, her best role was Judith Hearne where she captured the desperation and loneliness of a tragic Irish woman - to perfection.
