Ripon Cathedral "The Flight of the Phoenix"
The 'Yuneec Q500 Typhoon Quadcopter' has some amazing capabilities. Filmed on the 11 June 2015 the Q500 captured some staggering areal photography of Ripon Cathedral in all its majesty. The music 'Flight of the Phoenix' was especially composed for this short film.

Why have all the gravestones gone? My wife Julie (Tring)lived in the Aviarys 60’s & 70’s and knocked around this area & the Avenues as a schoolgirl. Her best friends were Janet Day, Elizabeth Ward...Janet lived in the Aviarys & Lizzy lived down Lamb Hill before it was all demolished. There’s another video called 70’s Rules Apply In Armley Leeds. Does anyone know when it was made? Julie says the faces are familiar she’s sure Victor was at Armley Park school? Anyway thanks for reading. Any info gratefully received.👍

When I spoke to the vicar prior to filming he had mentioned the the gravestones were all removed due to "Health and Safety" they were falling over due to age and if they fell on someone it would be a liability.. although more likely that the local youth were kicking them over and best remove the temptation rather than the risk of broken ankles and court cases.

Julie here David, thanks for the reply and info. I think the second reason was probably more realistic don’t you! Armley seems to have changed a lot... the old swimming baths where I learnt to swim (castleton school) have gone and there’s lots of new buildings opposite Armley Park school and also where the Hopes used to stand. I used to live in the Aviary’s. Went to Armley Park & Silver Royd School. I believe that’s gone as well.

Now that is the best looking video I have seen with this quad. Did you doctor the video? If so what software did you use. Also great shot and good flying.

The only enhancements were the color balance because the camera is very warm and changes with the turns and also as it ascends and descents I have also used some slow mo and sped it up in part to get that movement (Organ). Now the most obvious is the Drone rising at the outset, here I have slowed it to 20% because :) there was far to much movement and have used Time warp in after effects. I use Adobe Premire Pro 5.5

Thanks David. I have been looking at this quad a lot. My only hold back were that the wasen't good IMO but you have solved that one. The other issue is as far as I know you can't use goggles. I'm still trying to figure that one out using WiFi. Thanks for the response and the good info. I'm a newbe trying to catch up with the big boys.

William Fly in my opinion fpv isn't needed for my drone and what I do with it. There are a few limitations with using wifi and a connection method. It's line of sight. If your drone passes in front of a building you will lose video connection. So fpv wouldn't allow you to see where your drone is in relation to you. I believe there are arguments for both types of drone. Mine was off the shelf did what it said on the tin and i am covered if there are any problems thanks to the yuneec customer services. If and when I fly fpv I will get more enjoyment flying through woods racing and the Q500 is a little large for that. The next step for me might be a hexacopter to take a Dslr or the 4k version of the Q500. Just want to wait to see if there are any huge differences. Now for the down sides of the Q500.. The no fly zones... dji and yuneec have a no fly safety feature that means you can't fly in or around restricted airspace. Now this isn't usually a problem for dji and there rules are no fly 1 mile from airport. Max 400ft 5 mile radius yuneec is no fly at all 5 mile radius. Even if you have permission from the CAA to fly. I hope they fix this in a future firmware update. Or at least if you provide proof of qualification and permission from CAA.
