He is such a funny character!! I found one of these guys yesterday sitting on a dead pigeon he had killed and chowing down in the backyard. I'm glad it was a pigeon. He flew when he seen me...but miraculously, the pigeon was gone today. We have a great clean-up crew that comes at night...skunks, raccoons, foxes, etc. I am so glad that no animal goes to waste after it has been killed.:) Thank you Leslie for your reply. :)

Hi Mike, It is not. This camera's temperature reading has never been right....I do not know why. It has been hot though, but in the 90s. It is cooling down more now. Yay! :) Thank you for watching! :)

@@quietbynature2064 he is gorgeous! I have always loved seeing them in the wild. I lived in Tennessee for over 50 hrs. Now live in NM. I miss seeing foxes. Now it’s Coyotes!

@@leslieparker3914 Gracious...coyotes!!! We don't like them!! They are nuisances here!! Hey take a look at my channels "shorts" . We had a BLACK BEAR visit our backyard this weekend and I put two videos in there. It's strange because I tried to post the videos in this section, but TH-cam placed them in the "shorts". It was exciting...but I'm glad he has moved on as I don't want to take my bird feeders down. :)

@@quietbynature2064 saw the shorts! Sad that bear did some damage. They come down here out of the mountains into our nabe occasionally when food is scarce. Look for fruit trees and bird feeders, and trash cans. Leave a mess. Yes, the coyotes were a nuisance for us in Tennessee too. But here they are far more shy and reluctant to be around humans. Urban coyotes are fearless!

@@leslieparker3914 That bear visit was such a surprise! I would have missed the bear visit except our neighbor texted me! I never run out to the back porch so fast! LOL! My husband was walking our dog this am and seen bear scat right in the middle of the road! yikes...our black bear visits might not be done just yet.... :) Thank you for your comments Leslie! I love the frogs too Leslie while they are little. Last year we had a huge frog that attacked and ate a bird at the pond. 😲 Actually about this time last year. The video caught the initial attack and then the next video when the frog entered the picture again , he entered the pond and swam to the other side and you could see the feathers sticking out of its mouth. I caught the frog that attacked the bird and one other huge frog that was in the pond also. There are also videos of the frogs acting predatory, but I never thought they would attack a bird. It's a good thing these guys are still little ...but soon I will be catching them and taking them to a nearby creek where I took the other two. All of these frogs have migrated to our pond. I have no clue where they come from, but we get frogs every year. I do enjoy the frogs while they are little like these guys. But I can't stand the thought of the birds being attacked by a huge frog and swallowed alive...ugh. I just can't....so when the frogs get big enough, they have to go. If you watch the video, the frog attacked the bird out of the water....so no area is safe for the birds if they are bathing or eating at the feeders. It's just too much for me to take. But, the creek I take them to is really nice...it's a big ole waterhole and lots of vegetation. I know they will attack birds there at the creek, that's nature's way, but at least they won't be taking the birds enjoying the area I created especially for them. :)

Hey Leslie! Yes, I can't believe all the frogs that have congregated at the pond this year! But I fill it up about every other day when it's hot as a lot of water evaporates because of the waterfall and when I am also watering the birds and feeding the birds, it's just one of the routine things I do every time I am outside. Oh that's awesome Leslie! Ya got one on me! Isn't it so neat when you see a bird or creature do something you never expected to see them do? I just love great catches like that! I love the hummingbirds...they make me smile!

Yes, I seen an adult red-tail hawk and 3 babies flying with her on Monday this week when I was watering the plants in the front of the house ..I am sure this is one of them. Yes, having to grow up so fast as a bird or mammal has to be so tough, but yet they get it done through trial and error like this one did. It did it well too! LOL! Yes, the birds sound the alarm when these guys show up! :) Thank you for your comment. :)

Thank you for your kind comment Leslie and I'd tell you to come on down.....BUT let me tell you, the gnats are absolutely EVIL in this area...they sting, fly up my nose, fly into my mouth, get under my glasses and sting my upper nose area and get in my eyes, fly up my shorts and sting. I'm telling ya, you wouldn't be in here for very long my friend! LOL!! This place is definitely bug heaven also and they protect it very well.....I always get out of this area ASAP when I have to do things like watering the birds, filling up the pond! LOL!!

I know it is nature's way that he takes my beautiful songbirds and rabbits and I don't like that he does that, but I felt really sorry for him when viewing these videos. It has been so, so hot and dry here in our area and I know that it has been so hard on the creatures outside. We hadn't seen a skunk for a long time! Glad to see this fella stop by. I am sure the coyotes have been rough on them. I hope he comes back to visit us. Those little ones are so cute when they do the stomping of their feet. Tough guys..lol! Thank you for your kind remark Leslie. :)

Thank you Leslie for your comment. Yes, so hot! I feel so bad for the creatures right now! But, together we all can make a huge difference and make things better for the birds and animals that make this world a better place for us! Last night while watering, I seen a tree swallow baby on the ground...I think a little too anxious for mom and dad to bring food. :) Too little to fly, I picked it up and put it back into the tree swallow nest box...just the cutest little thing!! But mom and dad were pretty stirred up with me picking up their baby. I got out of there as fast as I could. :) But, oh my that baby was so stinkin' adorable!! :)

Thank you Leslie for your comment! Yes, those lily pads are so pretty and that green algae is growing well also.....lol! I usually have had in the past more plants in the pond to give the pond more shade and try to keep the algae at bay, but I am after that frog and the more cover i give him, the more danger the birds are in and it makes it that much more difficult for me to catch him, so we are doing without the extra pond foliage this year. I will get him eventually, but he's onto me...... :)

Hey Leslie, Thank you for your comment. This pond is 2 foot deep and as I learned about the dangers of ponds for animals and birds, I did my best to try to make sure that my pond was as safe as possible for them. The white blocks that you can see on each end of the pond are sitting on the steps of the pond so that if an animal falls into the pond it can get to the steps and get out. I also read that birds might miscalculate the depth of the water and drown, so I bought the floating bird bath so they can still get a drink out of the pond or take a bath. That pond has produced a lot of hilarious antics from animals and birds. Water is a huge attractant and if you have moving water with a waterfall and/or fountain sprayer, it attracts them that much more. :) If you do a search for floating bird bath, several companies pop up that carry this exact floating bird bath. Amazon has them just FYI. :)

Thank you Leslie! What started it for me was a youtube video. Plant plants, put damp cardboard around plants. Place mulch on top of cardboard...bingo...automatic beautiful! Of course the areas have to be maintained...weeded, mulch reapplied, but as the plants grow bigger..less maintenance.....all good! :)

You know, there is nothing like the caw, caw, caw of a crow! It is a soothing sound to me. Like you said, they are definitely communicators and it is so fun to listen to them when you have several in the backyard! I am so happy that I have a fellow crow lover! :) Thank you for your comment Leslie! :)

Hey Leslie, I had never seen this tall Rudbeckia before either until I seen someone on TH-cam doing a backyard tour. Boy, once I seen that plant, the hunt was on! I just love this plant..something different for me...but something also for the pollinators. Check out Rare Roots...they have a wonderful selection of plants and their packaging of your plants cannot be compared to anybody else's packaging! When I read about the red twig dogwoods and seen the pictures, I ordered 3 from Proven Winners. They were dinky, didn't know how they would do, but gracious they have really grown and are so gorgeous in the winter. You can even cut the branches to decorate for Christmas and it won't hurt the plant at all. Those American beauty bushes are amazing! There should be a gazillion berries this Fall and Winter, but they will all be eaten by the birds. Even though I feed the birds, they love to eat off of the native plants a lot. As far as the hydrangeas, we have a landscaping place here called Hillbilly Landscaping. I have gotten plants from her too. She showed me a hydrangea and I just fell in love!! They are so gorgeous. I would love to see your stellar and pinion jays in person. Maybe someday....I know the blue jays can be really ornery and rob other birds' nests, but I try to keep them fed enough to where they leave the other birds alone. But I love my blue jays!

I love seeing the foxes...they are a rare sight. Someone once told me..you feed the birds, that brings in the prey, which brings in the predators. A perfect cycle of life. I don't like it sometimes, but it is nature's way. Thank you for your kind comment! :)

@@quietbynature2064 I agree, the cycle exists with or without us. But I believe that animal habitats are not as easy for them to find anymore. I love fellow souls who make little quiet water habitats for the animals. Especially as hot as it has been.
