Applying a Backing to a Printmaking Plate Before Etching
I tried it on soft cut lino with Mod Podge and the design came out fine f but it was a thin layer of the print so when I tried to carve it it took the design off as well. Does it need to be a fresh inkjet print so the ink is still a bit wet to go on lino?
Her sound very ill 🤒 Why not use "Sugar Lift" technique. Those are non toxic printmaking. Need her come back Vinegar and Hydrogen peroxide are Toxic
This was interesting
The gasp I gusped at the ink saving trick... Genius
Thank you! Great resource!
is the oil slick a good or bad outcome? I was having an issue the other day and it seemed like to me that the oil slick was moisture, and from what I understand moisture is bad.
gracias por la info
Tq for you Toturial❤❤❤
hola me puedes indicar las caracteristicas del acido que has empleado, ejemplo,,,se puede volver a usar, desprende residuos del cobre, despues de usarlo como detengo su accion, y como elimino el acido a la basura.
This was an extremely helpful video, thank you!
What brand of Photopolymer are you using? Thank you for posting video. I'm troubleshooting and having lots of problems but I will try out a few of your different methods.
Before using the 2000 grit you used Steel Wool. Did you use 0000 Steel Wool? Also, why use 3-in-1 oil instead of car or vegetable oils?
Don't mix hydrogen peroxide and vinegar together in the same mixture. This can create peracetic acid, which may be toxic and can irritate your throat and lungs, eyes and skin. *You can use this formula non-toxic : Copper Sulphate for Zinc and Aluminium Recipe: 1 litre of warm water 100 gms of copper sulphate 100 gms of sodium chloride (salt) Tips When etching, a loose coppery sediment floats off. For use with hard ground, feather this away. When using for aquatint rock the tray gently to dislodge - this is important as a build up will stop the aquatint process happening properly.
What is mordant mix with gum arabic?
late to the party but I just did a copper plate class on the weekend and we used asphalt as stop out. It was to stinky and took ages to dry.
Before & After looks the same 😢
Thank you
Would this transfer method work on a pink rubber block, such as speedycarve? As opposed to traditional linoleum?
I just use an iron with a little water
Excellent
This is a fantastic, clear 'how to' with good safety tips.
This is a great video! So succinct can you explain your lettering / labeling on each of the areas of the sketch
I'm taking a print making class for my art degree and doing my first copper etching. My plate came with some pretty bad scratches that I was having trouble getting out. This was really helpful! Thank you!
Nice job
Very useful!! Thank you !
How do you keep this mordant for use in other moment? Or each time with you finish to use, you dispose the mordant?
Thank you! This is great!
Thank you very much
I used needle drill or dot on paper and strew powder like copy paper. Watching from Thailand 😊
What is Big? And how I can buy this???
It stands for Baldwin's Intaglio Ground. It can be bought online. If you search him he even has his own videos on using it. I don't know where you are located but Jackson's Online Art Supply or Takach will sell BIG Ground.
checking the sharpness by poking the fingernail made my knees weak! but anyway, thank you for the info about these materials! very easy to understand and straight to the point!
Great tutorial, thanks!
excellent you have refreshed my memory about this process. I am sure when i did this last time I did one exposure- screen and image together.
thank you very clear instructions.
Great tip. I've been wondering how to do this! Thanks!
Thank you very helpful.
Thank you!
Wow. I came for a quick answer to a question and got so much more! Many thanks
After removing BIG from the plate, what do you use to clean the plate before rolling ink for printing?
If you use Citrisolve to remove the BIG, what do you use to clean the plate again before applying ink for printing?
very informative and concise
Thanks.... my unmounted linocut doesnt seem to hold the ink, it dries too fast also. Im using fabric water based screen ink... does linoleum require a press inztead of hand printing? Thx.
At 10:47 you mention "morten" used to tarnish the plate. What is this chemical?
Does it have to be wood glue? Or can it be any glue?
I ask myself the same question 😭
Is this just for oil-based ink? Or does this work for water-based as well?
Yes. For oil-based. For water-based I would just use a little water with a tiny bit of soap. You can mix oil and water-based inks, just clean them as you would oil-based.
As an experienced printmaker, I must say that these instructions are crystal clear and nicely presented. However, I think I will just stick with traditional zinc and copper etched plates. Thank you for this complete explanation.
Thank you for this clear video! What is your recommended method for cleaning the ink off of the plate after the final print of the day?
Thank you so much for these videos! I took a workshop on Solar print making (especially loved graining the glass) unfortunately I lost several pages out of my notebook but your videos have filled in the gaps! I cannot tell you how much I appreciate this information, thank you, thank you, thank you!!
useless if you don’t tell us what concentration you used
you can wash the brayer with pine sol and water i just have a container with it and reuse when needed to clean and I just Windex the panel I use to put ink on
Do the brayers hold up well over time? I've never tried pine sol. Sounds tidier.
It's been working for me used the same brayer for over a year now and I use a 1/4 tsp or more mix with hot water and wash it off then place it out to air dry or get a cheap paper towel cause they don't have those little fibers on the outside like most uh brand name paper towels and you can just wipe off remaining water so there's no moisture trapped in the rubber or just use scrap paper or a old phone book and wipe away the ink till it's fully off your brayer! ❤@@maddeerpress1196 Hope that helped! 😁
And when cleaning a block best to do sooner than later or it'll require cotton swaps, paper towel, a rag, and pine sol + water. But if you do it right after printing it'll glide off like paint rather than ink sealed to your rubber stamp or lino block 🥰
Just what I needed for a guide thank you for taking time and making this video 💖✨
