@@KaigakuInadama-293 so these are actually aspides but they perform and look nearly identical to the aim-7e2 dogfight missile in war thunder. In real life the aspide has some amazing upgrades that aren’t “really” modeled in game. The basic firing process is easy: simply lock a target with the radar of the firing aircraft, then spool up the seeker head of the sparrow and 2 rings will appear inside the radar lock square that’s around the target, these rings indicate lock strength. If there’s only one ring and the second ring is struggling to “fully enclose” then it will be a bad lock and there’s a good chance that if you fire the missile it will fly straight for a second and then explode. If the lock is good the missile should have no problem guiding to the target. I like to launch early sparrows like aim-7D,E and E2 under 7 miles (11km) for probability of kill reasons and later sparrows like aim-7M/F at +7 miles due to the longer burning sustainer rocket motor that it has. The tricky part is dealing with enemy chaff. The aircraft in the short (j8b) has a quite limited radar set: no pulse Doppler, no ACM boresight and almost no chaff rejection/ecm meaning if it sees a nice bright chaff cloud it’s going to lock it instead of an aircraft. Now when using a CW seeker radar missile like the sparrow it doesn’t really rely off radar lock rather it relies off of the radars continuous wave illuminator which lights up a large cone around where the lock is pointing (think of the lock like a laser and the CW like a cone around the laser) If you are close enough and if the enemy is at the right angle it will ignore the chaff lock-on and guide right onto the target aircraft, keep in mind this may not always work and it’s best to keep your nose pointing at the target aircraft even if you are locked onto chaff. I forgot to go into detail about dodging SAHR radar missiles using the ground and a term called multi-pathing. Essentially fly as low as you can go and it will create a ghost radar signature of yourself but under the ground. This is the radar signature that the radar missile will chase instead of you. There is a certain altitude at which this takes effect but gaijin changed it a while ago and I personally have no idea what altitude is best I just hug the treetops and pray to the snail to not die. @@tannermcmahon280 edit: I was wrong. Under the controls tab in the menu and under the sub-menu camera control there’s a keybind option called “tracking camera: bomb/torpedo” this is the keybind that I use to get that camera angle of any launched projectile including sparrows and sidewinders.

@@Antal46 I feel like both missiles compliment one another very well on the j-7d, it’s a shame there aren’t any tech tree vehicles that use pl-7, I know the python-3/pl-8 exists but I do love a good magic/pl-7.

@@tuffyrs2898 it’s a MiG-21 smt at 11.0 so if you are familiar with MiG-21’s then it has some very definite delta wing pros and cons but overall it’s a very fun premium compared to the A-5, magics are very fun in combo with radar slaving and the pl-5b is the best “short” range IR missile at that BR so yeah I’d say it’s worth it when it’s on sale but not full price.
