Is Prison Wine the Next Big Thing in Fine Wine?
this was a fantastic insight!
Thank you so much!
I think I learned the least about wine and the most about life from that one. What a cool dude.
Totally! Philosophic AF!
‘I’m Australian and the other hosts are Ozzie’ 😂 So does that mean you daaaaance and praaaance?
100% it does! Depends on what part of Australia we're all from (mostly Queensland lol)
Frank the goat, have his Magma cuvee in the cellar, looking forward to the day I open it :)
Ooooh! You'll have to let us know when you open it!
Frank is such a legend, he ferments wines in plastic and is proud of it🫡
I'm sure he has his reasons - likely that he uses Ozone that rapidly degrades SS of lower quality - and welds.
💥🔥💥
Hectic huh?
Traminette is a hybrid that makes lovely wine. Aromella (which is very new) is nice too. For some reason Gewurztraminer makes good hybrids. A local winery (Finger Lakes) did a Traminette/Seyval blend that I absolutely love. The reason Cornell U has a hybrid program is to create varieties that resist weather/disease much better naturally so fewer chemicals are needed in the fields. I don't like "natural" wines, but I fully support "natural" farming because I like having water that I can drink and land that isn't polluted.
Interesting! It seems that it's a common thing too - there's an Australian cross that was made in the 60s or 70s called Taminga - also based on Traminer!
Those mark ups are crazy! Fun video!
It definitely seems so - but they're very modest within Australia!
So true. I’ll likely never have a DRC unless someone else is pouring, but I’ve been fortunate to have have had Hill of Grace, a couple of first growth Bordeaux, Pingus and Unico and a few others, like you said, can still taste them.
It's worthwhile having rich friends haha
Breakfast in a glass?
Could be!
Nero d’Avalo is great. 😊
Very impressive grape variety!
This makes me happy that I'm a wine drinker in Europe! We are pretty well off when it comes to availability and price (although they have gone up quite a bit the last several years). German GG is definitely one of my favorite wine styles! 🤤
We're VERY jealous here in Australia!
As an American, I feel the same way going to Europe and seeing the prices...
They're the O.G. producing continent for a reason no?
8:38 I’m with you all the way, Noah - but it’s not just US prices that make me weep, the value in Europe is crazy, too.
Long story short: Australian prices are punitive!
Couple of month ago i drank 2012 Dr.Loosen Urziger Wurzgarten Reserve, what, a, wine. And relatively cheap for top Mosel riesling, at least here in Europe!
Insane no?!?!
Luis Seabra is a well reputed winemaker of Portugal. His wines are wonderful but I haven’t tried this one. Xisto Ilimitado Branco is so good for how affordable it is here in EU.
Thanks for chiming in! Great to know - definitely a new one for us!
I paid blood money to get two bottles of the 22 triolet imported. Question is when to drink them
OMG seriously? One on arrival and one in 15 years - definitely jump on the Discord to discuss!!!!
The Leroux retails online for about 40 EUR online in France. It's probably a bit cheaper even if you know the right wine shop.
Woah - that's impressive.
Such a shame you cant get that triolet in the uk, I had a bottle from 1997 i purchase for £42. I wish i never had it as i desperatelly want more now and i cant get any! It might be the best wine i have had to date and thats saying something.
Which is 81 aud so a steal given the amount of age and price of current vintages
They're absolutely insane wines - definitely converts here in Australia (bias aside).
Wild huh?
man that Dr. Loosen costs around 30 € (~49 AUD) in Germany. That price is rough
😢
😭
That's INSANE!
Barrel fermented white Bordeaux blend from Yarra... WINNING as well. Absolutely bonkers stuff, hilarious that nobody called ozzy in the wine but all the ozzies still picked it as the best. You can't make this up :P Sandhi is 25-35 USD in country hahaha. In the Netherlands its about 45 euro. At 10 mins you guys mention Noah nailed the wine but I don't see him mentioning it at all, would be nice to keep the guesses in the editing.
The Yarra producers sensational Sauv Blanc from the right producers. ‘Triolet’ would be considered by many to be one of Australia’s finest whites - ages absolutely beautifully as well.
@@itsmederek1 yeah it did feel a bit too cut down this ep, I get keeping the vid shorter but gotta keep that relaxed pace (:
You couldn't write a better script TBH - aaaah haha yeah, by 'nailing it' it was a bit of a commentary around poor bretty wine - we didn't feel it worth including, as the comment could easily have been taken out of context.
We've trialled some shorter style edits - although we've brought them back up to around 16-ish minutes for recent ones yet to drop!
Raises the question of whether we should be using more oak across different white varieties to raise their profile.
WTF why is the Sandhi Sta Rita Hills Chard 100?! Is that what gets tacked on from delivery costs?!
Mainly tax - but yeah.
If that Sandhi Chardonnay was 110 aussie I would never, ever buy it. good wine, that's a crazy price. It's 40 US, but you can often find it cheaper.
It's around $60 USD in Australia - shipping & taxes certainly make a difference - but so does the price ex-works, USA producers demand high prices as they often sell out domestically without the hassle of export.
So Brendan... I stayed in a similar aprtment/hotel in Brisbane, recently renovated - brand spanking new ktichen. NO handles or knobs on any cabinet door or drawer... all those high end magnetic catches/soft close - very slick easy clean... looked lovely. BUT NOT A SINGLE F**KING FIXING was in the same position on any two doors or drawers. Some on top right, some lower left, some lower right, some middle top, some middle bottom... I spent the first two days bashing the cabinet/drawer fronts to get ANYTHING OPEN.... nice idea... arsehole installer (I'm only 150cm so didn't have your issue)
Woah - that'd piss us off to no end! How bloody frustrating! Haha!
how good!! Henry really adds to the chat. "its really a ceiling" this cracked me up hard!! makes me want to taste The Other Wine Co. cheers boys!!
Hahaha that was far more funny that we gave it credit for lol
3:58 let's go!!!
Haha! Captured!
My genesis wine is 1993 Yarra Yering Underhill 😍
BOOM! That's wild!
So I’ve watched a couple of your tasting videos now. Have always enjoyed them. Had no idea you were a wine producer. However in addition, after watching this video I still have no idea what your brand is, where you’re based and what sort of wine you produce(fiano at a guess). Can you tell me so I can keep an eye out?😂
Unico Zelo is the brand it’s great
That'd be Unico Zelo!!!
❤️
As a 6’6 person the cleaner’s doing those dishes. And don’t get me started on stupid chest height bath showers.
Hahaha!
Sick video mate. Im in wine sales DTC so it's good to see the other side. Thanks for creating this sort of content 👌
My pleasure! Haha thanks for watching!
Konstantin's channel was the only wine channel that I subscribed to until he had your gang on about 8 months ago. Now I have two wine channel subscriptions! Keep up the good and entertaining work!
Oh how kind! Haha KB's been an amazingly good supporter of ours - we're very humbled!
I don't know anyone that owns more Patagonia than you, Brendan
LOL! B-Corp Winery ;) We get a good deal on it.
Christ mate, that alarm in the beginning triggered me. Didn't realize how much I hated it.
It triggered me too haha
Is it chill if I chill here?
You're chill to chill!
Apple alarm sound gave me a physical reaction
Right?! LOL
Having Henry in on these chats is great for us enthusiasts who are outside the industry and don't know a lot of the more technical terms. You guys strike a great balance of storytelling, higher level technical chat, and educational content. Love your work!
Oh mate! Thank you so much - you're definitely picking up what we're puttin' down! That's the whole aim!
