We approach the highest terrain along the flight slipping between the 14 K peaks.

We crossed the continental divide and started the long descent into the high plains of Co. We were all getting secured for the downhill ride through the valley, mountains on each side potential for turbulence. An amazing flight!

The Aluminum Overcast ferry flight continues. We pass over Flaming Gorge Reservoir in Wyoming. We are headed for a path through the 14K peaks under 12,000 MSL

That is at Benson, AZ. I have seen this plane many times. I spotted a landmark that is 3 Italian cypress trees. I saw them and I knew it was Benson, AZ

As a person who has been lucky enough to witness a c47/dc3 startup that has been actually professionally maintained from the people at the Canadian warplane heritage museum and that is not how a dc3 should sound like that thing has a bunch of magneto problems fuelling issues electrical issues and a starter that is about to melt no smart person would even dare to get that thing running in that condition a bunch of restarted human being working on a beautiful machine

Field elevation 4250 ft , assume 29.92, it was 11:42 t-shirt weather call it 75 F. Density Altitude 12,069 Ft. it is real in the high desert a month ago it would have been 95 F and DA 14,445 ft! It is no joke that is why we advise flying in the mornings for flat-landers that are not used to 2500 ft takeoff rolls and anemic climb rates.
There's a low-time Super on the south ramp at HNL waiting for someone to care for it..... Belongs to Kamaka Air Cargo, I've got a couple takeoffs and landings in it.

R-2800 engines! I flew the DC-3 for 1,000 hours back in the 1970s but never the Super 3.
They came out with wright 1820 or 1830 engines didn’t they?

Gas hog. Weight is very high. No longer water tight, I'd bet.
Flew from MAS Yuma to Nas Miramar in one. Might as well been a flying threshing machine with the rattles and vibrations.
I remember there was one at Moorabbin Airport in the late 70's. Local radio station, 3DB, used it for shark spotting in Port Phillip bay. I think it had a Franklin engine in it which was always giving problems.
My dad's best friend flew C47s in the Berlin Airlift after WW2.
It will be missed. I've seen that at Benson airport for years.
That’s a lot of work. Probably just harvesting the engines.

That black smoke says exessively rich. Perhaps if he pushed in the [metaphoric] choke & leaned it out some it might run better & clean the soot off the plugs. Once it's hitting on all 14, then feed it some prop pitch to load it up & get a little heat into those cylinders.

@@leejohnson6173 no Need, i m paid for that. After 15 blades, mags on, add the primer til she starts, then mixture rich, release primer you MUST have a clear start and stabilize the engine by leaning. She runs like a Honda civic with 2 cylinders misfiring

Tought of draining tanks and new 100LLgas, plugs, lead wires, Mags condition? That PW R-2000 runs about on 9 out of 14 cylinders. I operate A/C on PW R-2800 CA3 for the past

Great seeing them take on getting it back to the sky. I have looked it over a few times when flying through. I’m lucky enough to fly DC-3’s regularly and love seeing another one saved. Especially a Super DC-3. Not many of those still flying.

I am not doing the work! Just taking videos and pictures. This has been a mystery fixture at E95 since I moved in.
Pump the gas three times, wait 15 seconds, then floor it. After it floods, wait 15 minutes and start with half throttle.

Old girl needs some major work, and a carb overhaul haha. Glad someone is able to save her, as someone who has, its worth every bit of the effort.
The tail section looks like that of an R4D, the Navy/Marine version of the DC-3 (or C-47). It this aircraft actually an R4D?
