🇬🇧 In 2024 at the Paris Olympic Games Harry Hepworth made history winning the bronze medal on the vault and becoming the first British man ever to achieve that milestone. Harry started the sport at the age of eight after seeing a live gymnastics demonstration during a visit from a local athlete to his school. In the three years prior to that encounter Harry had been diagnosed with Perthes disease and was unable to participate in sports activities. He entered Leeds gymnastics club with the goal of learning a backflip and is now one of the most exciting young talents in the world. In 2023 he made his senior global championships debut at the World championships in Belgium, qualifying into three individual apparatus finals and making history in the process. At the age of 18 Harry was sidelined with a double stress fracture in his spine which makes his Olympic success at the age of just twenty even more remarkable. And this is his story 🎙️

Great episode with harry there. I like how he talked about how the coaches dream is also to get to the olympic games. I would love to see 2 6.0 vaults done for some future comps. That would be quite amazing and a medal for sure. Keep it up
Hey thanks for supporting the show Timothy. Harry certainly has the potential to be a gymnast competing two 6.0 vaults this Olympic cycle. Sam
So glad you interviewed Harry! I used to watch him in Nile’s vlogs so it’s amazing to see where he is now!
Hey thanks for listening to the episode with Harry! His journey has been amazing. Sam
Harry reminds me a lot of Ashley Watson.
Hey thanks for watching the episode with Harry. I usually find most gymnasts take after the generation that came before them within a club. Sam
Australia has a phenomenal group of young gymnasts coming through (Malik,Mchillatton, Owen) but unfortunately I don't think they will be able to hit their peak considering the non existent funding. All things considered though, I do think we will be an Olympic team in the next two cycles with Jesse Moore being the captain of the team
Malik is going to NCAA so hopefully that will aid his development
Heath is a champion! Great episode.
Love it, Heath is a super star! Keep forging your path!
Amazing Sam! Thanks for sharing 😊
Thank you Mary-Anne and I hope you are well!
Hey Sam. Great episode I love your podcasts!!! And your gymnastics of course! Just a note for future interviews: It's better to ask one question at a time than two or three in one sentence. The interviewee tends to forget the first questions and only focuses on the last. If you ask one question at a time you will get all the interesting answers that you want and even more ❤️ I have a degree in journalism and I've tried it before. It really works. But great job man!! Keep it up❤
Hey Marie, thank you for supporting the podcast and the feedback is brilliant. I'm always trying to improve as an podcast host and certainly take constructive criticism on board. Big thanks sam
Great interview / chat. Anyone wanting an idea of how much hard work and dedication it takes to earn an Olympic medal should listen. And also marvel not only at the superb performances we see but the thousands of hours of training behind them. Really proud of what you and the rest of the GB Team achieved this year.
Hey Myles, thanks for supporting the podcast and for taking the time to leave positive feedback. Sam
Great episode! Can you maybe do an episode breaking down the cop
Hey there, I'm planning to do this in the new year as the rules have changed significantly for this cycle. Thanks for supporting the podcast. Sam
Really interesting collaboration 🤝🏼
Thanks for watching and I'm glad you liked the conversation. Sam
Same to me
Great episode Sam and James. I am really gonna take a lot of that advice and passion back into the gym for my own athletes in the future. Especially the parts about enjoying the competitions and the leadups and training as if you are going to be selected instead of starting the hard training afterwards because it will never happen in that case. It is a good acknowledgement that it would have been nice to have your own coach out there with you for an Olympic games but the amount that you have both grown in the gym together over the past many years is more important that one competition. That is a good relationship that will continue after this one competition. I particularly liked when you were talking about skills that Sergei had not even taught before and how the coach had to let go of their ego and embrace working together with your athletes to outsource the knowledge of how to teach the skills but working with the gymnast was the most important thing. when the coach and the athlete have an equal relationship to each other than they can actually develop much faster. That is so important. Definitely going to give this one another listen. It had so many good tips in it. Excited to watch the next one.
Hey Timothy, It's great to hear from you and thanks for supporting the podcast. I loved reading your takeaways from this episode with James as it was one of my personal favourites. A few people have said they are going to listen to it again because there is so much value in the stories James shares. Thanks for listening. Sam
He came to my school today !
I saw you today Sam REMEBER you went to my school You did loads of tricks I hope I see you again pls come back
Always love the new podcasts/videos, and Joe is one of my favourites! Keep up the great work - both of you - I know it's not easy, but we're out here cheering for you even if you can't hear it. 😍
Thank you Clay! 👋🏼☺️
Good job SAM ... and Felix also 😉! Very interesting ...really excited to see Dolci in LA
Thank you for listening and I'm really looking forward to seeing Felix progress towards LA 2028!
Got the Canadian GOAT on the podcast
What a rock solid mindset! Thanks for watching. Sam
really emjouyed this pisode. As a follower of both from the beginning, really enjoyed the convo and there was a good vibe between the both of you. Two wonderfully matched athletes
I'm glad you enjoyed this episode. I certainly could see myself in Felix and predict big things to come from him in the future. Thanks for supporting. Sam
Part 2 ?
Definitely in teh future. Amazing story teller at such a young age. Thanks for watching. Sam
Great conversation! I've been following Felix since early 2022 I believe and he's definitely one to look out for. It was really cool to see him and a good part of this Canadian team live at the Pan-American Championships that year while visiting my family haha. I'm also Canadian and live in the same city, so I'm always wondering if I'll randomly bump into one of these guys on the street lol.
Amazing that you had the chance to see him compete. I didn't know the Pan American champs were such a big deal in Canada. Thanks for supporting the show as always Milla. Sam
Very interesting questions and answers ! Love this podcast, learn a lot !
Thank you for watching and the great feedback. Loved this conversation with Felix. Sam
Love the podcast Sam BtW .
Thank you Simon!
What a fantastic young man ,hopefully many Olympic medals to come his way ,love his positive attitude towards his sport and outlook on life .🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌felix dolci .
I completely agree and can see big things ahead for him in the future. Thanks for watching. sam
Fantastic Podcast feeling the energy and passion
Thank you for the positive feedback and we appreciate you listening. Sam
Yeah of course il just do 40+ hours a week no sleep and still make sure the criticising GF doesn’t blast me for not doing enough when all I’ve done is be present trying to learn and overcome the fear of being left alone with our preterm surviving twin 😅
can you maybe do an episode covering the world cup as its interesting to see your take on the next gen as some of those junoirdss from gb this quad are competing there-Danny and Jonas.
Nobody cares about your swimming career. Its reflected in the views from the past 10 years. You're not interesting enough bro, quit while you still have time to become a swimming instructor.
Sam old ham you came to my school
How do you get in to going over to compete in Europe?
Hey mate, It's usually a case off the teams reaching out tot he gymnast directly or through a coach. Thank you for listening.
je pense que le ministere des sports devrait ouvrir un audit sur la federation francaise de gymnastique les pratiques et les fonds ainsi que les salaires car pour le haut niveau les gymnastes payent leur coaching
Thanks Sam for this amazing podcast of my bf. He was and still is an incredible human and gymnast who deserves more than what he experienced... Thank you again 🙏🏼 so proud of him 🤍
Edgar is amazing. I’m a gymnast from Hawaii and I’ve followed his career since 2015. So happy and interesting to hear his story and everything he went through. One of the greats for sure 🇫🇷
Is this the first podcast Ian has been on? 🎉 Very interesting to learn about his journey and content creation process. Sam is a great interviewer! P.S. I’d love to see an interview with Connor McCool😊
the experience of the gymnast is France is so low you don t see them on world cup that sad
thanks Sam to give an opportunity to french gymnast to talk what is the most important to understand in the process of the high level of gymnatic in france is the selection is not fair a lot of gymnast are under pressure they not free to talk there not free to train peacefully they heaven not free to stay with their coach who is totally absurde all this factors make a pressure on the gymnast i will compare that too roumania or russsia 20 years ago no evolution no solution one politics that s not working and for be honest gymnastics have bad reputation but that the most beautifull sport to see
Hey there, I really enjoyed learning about the French system and the challenges facing mens gymnastics in France at the moment. It was great to read your thoughts on the problems and thank you for supporting the podcast. Sam
Merci plein Justine
Thanks for sharing your story! Awesome to hear about what both of you are doing.
Thank you for listening and I'm glad you enjoyed hearing our stories. Sam
Can you lease do an episode with felix dolci as I want to know what he felt like after Paris and I feel similar to Fred he can become a big name
He would be a great guest here, but I did hear a podcast with him sharing his post olympic thoughts just the other day on youtube. It just showed up in my algorithm because of how much gymnastics stuff I watch.
@@joyfuljaj Hey guys, I'm in talks with Felix at the moment and hopefully we have the chance to sit down in teh near future. Sam
Such a great podcast. Sam, I always appreciate your respectful approach to analyzing gymnastics and I love the insights from Ian as a college teammate of the Olympians. Hearing how he seems to be pretty thoughtful and rather cerebral on how he puts together videos is interesting. It shouldn't be surprising because I know that it can't just be random but I like hearing his approach to storytelling from his own mouth. Listening to him give you advice on a skill is also fun to see how gymnasts want to help each other. Although I think I know what the skill is you're talking about and I now have to go hunt for videos of it.
Hey there, It's great to read your takeaways from listening to the episode with Ian. I also enjoyed hearing his insights on the Olympic team and his approach to content creation. Thanks for supporting the podcast. Sam
I absolutely love this ! Ian has inspired me not only in telling my story with the sport but in wanting to create more content on my passions now when it comes to music and piano . Also I love seeing a lot of the other Stanford guys producing content . As for Brody producing more content I think it’s likely he would rather be sitting in a duck blind 😂😂
Hey there, it's great to hear from you and that you enjoyed the conversation with Ian. I also took some real value from his advice around content creation. Thanks for supporting the show. Sam
Hi Sam I'm an Australian WAG fan and first heard your podcast mentioned about 6 months ago, maybe more, when Gymcastic referred to your conversation about Oleg Vernaiev and your observations. I came to listen to it and have listened to a bunch since, your interviews and some of the others. Its got me in to MAG alot more, I love learning from the technical stuff you talk about as well as the stories. Im really interested in the rise of British MAG you talk about from Louis and Max onwards. I've been a gym fan from the early 1990s til the mid 2000s and then didnt follow again much until about 2015. From that early time period of course I remember Neil Thomas. I was at the 1994 Brisbane Worlds when he won his secodn World Medal. I imagine his breakthrough successes would've been an inspiration for that generation that followed 10-15 years later. I'm wondering if you could get an interview with him, that would be awesome!
Hi Jenny, It's great to hear from you and thank you for supporting the podcast. I'm glad it has reignited your passion for men's gymnastics. I enjoyed reading about your early introduction into he sport and would love to have Neil Thomas share his story in teh future. Big thanks Sam
Great episode Sam.loved eh Olympic ones. Why no female watching with u. Also they should include disability gymnasts in paralympics these guys work as hard.
Hey there, thank you for listening and supporting the podcast. I hope to have some more female athletes on to share their stories in the future. I completely agree that disability gymnastics should be in the Paralympics.
Love the podcast! Just a question about creatine. I’m a high level gymnast and might be considering taking it, it’s just that I’ve read that it increases muscle performance and recovery however also water retention, and I’m afraid I will feel more heavy due to the water weight, compared to the gained performance. How would you tackle this issue?
u cant not like Dan - such a great bloke and gymnast. Max witlock next please!!! or jarman
I completely agree mate. Speaking with both of them!
OMG, the story behind your infamous vault! 😨
Amazing insight. I loved hearing that story from Dan too.
Great podcast with two legends of the sport.
Thank you for listening and supporting the podcast. I'm glad you enjoyed the conversation with Dan.
Always a pleasure to see an update from you. I'm loving these personal vlogs!
Thanks for supporting Clay!
Sam Oldham you came to my school Catherine infants
I really enjoyed this episode, great job!
Thank you for watching and I'm glad you enjoyed the episode!
