Listen ..or your tongue will make you deaf . It was a particularly lovely prayer after this
It gives me much joy to drop in to your Christmas Day Service. Particularly seeing Rev Donald Phillipps at the end. I had just been watching a lovely interview with Martin and some of his songs, meetinf the steady members of the Chills. I couldn’t follow all the word of Martin’s songs just as I couldn’t follow all of David’s words. But, nevertheless it was a blessing to br with you and hear whatever words I was able to hear and sing whatever I could reach. Thankyou to thr two women who assisted the Rev David and to the owner of thr hand who moved the song words into position. I write this from Westmere, Tamaki MakauRau❤
Peter and Jona it was amazing that It was your wedding Rehearsal on the 18th of December 2024 which was our 53rd wedding Anniversary … in the previous church with. Colin Gibson playing the organ and Rev Donald Phillips officiating actually marrying us . Wishing you both all the very best for your life together.
Thank you Marilyn I will pass your comments on. Bruce
Congratulations Peter and Jona. God bless your home with warmth, joy, peace and love.😊
Thank you. i will pass your comments on. Bruce
Well good on you, singing (and ringing group) ! I tgought yoy were the tgree wise men….and why not! And David this week I listened to you on Monday morning which meant I wasn’t switched off by your accent. Your readings were so enriching….
So good hearing Greg on the organ
Excellent Service in preparation for Christmas
Thank you Elaine. Best wishes to you and Ross. Bruce.
“From clutter to clarity” that spoke to my condition. We are down-sizing but staying in our long term home and needing to accommodate a substantial wheelchair 🦼 and rather fewer books and papers. All the best as you go through your long awaited building chaos.
It was great to be able to join in the singing due to the words being provided. Thankyou . The very clear speaker doing the information (again thankyou) re the building works. My goodness I remember those toilets at the end of what seemed to my young self a very long corridor! ( better than your present loos.)
Interesting lecture. Congrats on getting your doctorate too Liesel.
Thankyou to the person who organised the words to the hymns. I really enjoyed joining in and getting a clearer sense of how they fitted the shape and meaning of the Service. Especially heartwarming for me to see Donald still leading worship. Still getting us to think and ❤
Thank you Marlyn. We are working on it. Bruce
great service
Thank you. Bruce
They are given to us to sustain us in the valleys of life Then she gives a lot of real world Examples of ways that the mountains are at risk. To do whatever we can to protect the mountain envoy. At the bottom of the….at the bottom… “The majesty of mountains… What a good sound your singing group makes😊
Thank you Marilyn. Bruce
The first time I missed the children’s story but this time it caught my attention. It was so beautifully read and the camera person adjusted so that those of us on line were able to see the delightful illustrations as well as listen to the story. Thank you
Thank you Marilyn. Bruce
I miss you all hope to be back one day ❤
Thank you Shelly. We look forward to that. Bruce
I choose to share this with Graham Leslie Woolford whom The Reverend Phillipps married in the previous version of this Mornington Methodist Church to me . Oh momentous day in my life And Donald may remember singing Panis Angelicus with me as we allwaitedfor the groom to arrive for the rehearsal......
Sky thinking has to be brought down to earth… Let go of thevprofound fantasy that the other people will simply disappear ! As long as we don’t let go of this phantasy….so we have to devrlope a VIS ION NOT A uYOPIA but a more SUSTAINABLE RELATIONSHIP………. Brief summary of a very rich connecytion with an Israeli Conscientios Objector who brought his family to live in NZ so that he could study at the National Centre for Peace and Conflict Studies…… Helen WW Hymn 3 It was a Choir Song it’s quite long…. I would ❤ love to have the service sheet with the words….. Such a rich offering to sustain me with the misunderstandings Cultural mismatches Exhausting beibg helped Cum by ya indeed And the people made a circle, holding by the hands on either side ….. all on level ground …. Amene And how lustily they sing it…… oh to be part of that CHOIR….. what a privilege And I had my time , a formative time, 😢😮😊❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤🎉
Very exciting to hear of the 21st Peace Lecture…. Please leave the access code to enable those of us watching via screen to experience the story this conscientous objector brings.
Dear Donald You have so much in my mind since The news of your son’s death. You had such a heart for those of us who were gifted, tortured creatives. Brian Miller has stayed in touch as one of the S.C.M.ers there to support You, Martin’s father and best Friend.
Dear Marilyn Thank you for your message. I passed it on to Don. He expressed his thanks for your remembering him. He would like to reply to you directly. I you send your email address to me at spittle727@gmail.com I can pass it on to Don. Best wishes Bruce
Learn to become a tree 🌳 You need to become a 🪨 Don’t fluster 🦁become a lion Become a hawk……🦅
Thank you Marilyn. Tree, rock, lion, hawk. A good message. Bruce
Thankyou Rod for acknowledging us…. The wider Mornington Methodist community….cards or flowers 🌷 that remind us of our loved ones .
Thank you. Margaret Connor and Don have fond memories of your time in Dunedin Bruce
Great service. Thank you.
Thank you Patricia. Best wishes
I’m so glad I can drop by via the Internet 🛜. I know you have some gifted technicians. But I don’t know how difficult it would be to provide the hymn words on the screen? I certainly picked up frustrations around the Methodist Church property committee ❤A Presbyterian Minister friend opened his mail while we were having lunch and exclaimed angrily:The Church is a mean mother”. Donald, I was gob-smacked to hear of your son, Martin’s death.Loving prayers for you yourself and all your whanau
Dear Marilyn Thank you. We are working on getting the words up on the screen. Best wishes
A wonderful, nourishing service at Mornington Methodist today. Special love to Donald and John.
Dear Marilyn Thank you. Best wishes
Hello Mornington folk! Hi Andrea! I miss you very much.
Bless! Great service today 🙏🏾
I would love to be able to follow what the congregation is saying as well as hearing Donald Phillipps
Thank you Mary. On Sunday richard had a radiomicrophone so his singing and responses could be heard. John usually has it but he was playing the piano on Sunday. This might help. Bruce
Sorry Marilyn
After a fairly fraught Sunday I was so glad to listen to Judy’s playing and rest in the lovely music
Dear Marilyn Thank you. I will pass that on to judy. Bruce
Pentecost is my favourite feast/festival in the Christian Calendar. So it was interesting to see how Mornington Methodist celebrated. Firstly thank you to the musician whose choices of music for during Communion were Soo appropriate. And his musicality shone through... I miss the music in my Quaker silent worship style.
Is it possible to down load the service? Of to get on a mailing list as it takes me so long to adjust to the different voices, distances from the mike that Some of the excellent content slides away. I appreciate the reading of verse 1 iof hymn.
I do hope Judy Davis is able to get a/the singing group going again.
This was a most moving service which had tears in my eyes more than once…. The twice quoted ‘differently abled differently labeled’ fron Shirley Erana Murray’s hymn was so evocative for me .
You had me at Suo Gan 😊 loved the service
I’ll come back. Thought it would be about Colin Gibson. Honours both Jeanette and Colin; tackles a much more taxing topic….. by George Davis… it was good to hear (and see Colin’s good friend, and the University Chaplain who married us…Rev Donald Phillipps introducing George. )
I am so looking forward to this talk…../ presentation
Any chance of a transcript?
Again What a joy to be with the Christmas Christians from local Presbyterian and Anglican Churches even if it is , for me, a bit further along into January.
What a marvellous celebration of Colin Gibson hymns. These were the ones that I knew in the context of Worshipping in “this familiar place”….. And I am so delighted to see “the Spirit Bird hovering overhead” on Max’s stole.by Jeanette Gibson of course(I hope I spelled that correctly…. There’s that perfectionist thing….)
Dear Marilyn Thank you. Five stoles were gifted back to the Church by Craig Forbes and are kept in the church office but used as appropriate. Bruce.
“I hate robbery ….” small kids ramraiding dairies older kids stealing smokes and vapes Traders in the outer section of religious life? The people who took a lot of Government Funding and voluntary work and effort and stole Laura Fergusson in Epsom/Remuera by selling it secretly ….there is a detailed story there….one of many in Tamaki Makau Rau home of the “Robber Barons”.
Red background with 5 pointed gold star; rest of it blue and white stripes horizontal .
Dear Marilyn The morning star flag is the flag for West Papua. Usually it is in the foyer but was bro;ught into the church for a service on 1 Dec when the declaration of independence was made. West Papua is governed by Indonesia but there is a protest movement and the flag is flown on 1 Dec in many places. Bruce
To comfort all who mourn….they shall be called “oaks of righteousness”
It is hard for me to tolerate lies created by manipulating statistics; AND the power needs not just of Putin and the Well Armed Nation of Isreal but of myself in my very own bedroom. Now I have twopeople assisting me up to three times a day in and out of bed; on and off the bed…. Sunday being a day when Christians are busy worshipping together, it is hard to find enough people so Sunday truly is my Day Of Rest. I am expecting one Hindu lady to visit this afternoon . We two get on really well like a house on fire ti use the unfortunate phrase). Bring in a third….. and here she is and I need to go
Bring in a third person and there are all the makings of a power struggle👊🏾🤛🏻🫶🏼
Oh How I would love to be part of that celebration, practices included! Wed 6:30-8:00 and Sunday before the service. And then at Knox Church 7.00 pm next Sunday 15th Oct 2023
I am so grateful to Mornington Methodist for streaming your. Morning Service. It looks as though you can take the girl out of The Methodist but you cant take the Methodism out of the girl. 🎉❤
Thank you Marilyn
I waited for the singing group, bless you one and all. I’ll have to come back to find out what you sang us but the sound was magnificent. Yes I missed Colin and Jeanette, my mum and so many young and old who sang in the Mornington Methodist Choir when I was privileged to be bounced up those steps and face the congregation to sing glorious faith filling music. Thursday night was sacrosanct!!
Dear Marilyn; The singing groiup have a practice with Judy Davis after the service nezt Sunday 11 Feb. Bruce
Thankyou Judy that intro music was marvellous.
Oh Im touched to hear that Bev has died. What a wonderful fighting spirit she had; an admirable woman . The Pacific Islanders who are treated at the Auckland Spinal Unit where I worked for some 5 years are often sent back home without the wheelchair they have seen everyonr else using. We New Zealanders covered purely medical needs but not physical objects…. However you hopefully found an excellent home already for dear Bev’s wheelchair
This is the second visit to this site for me. In between I sought out the words and and music of that sobering hymn by Colin Gibson. It was surprisingly difficult to sing and play simultaneously but what a powerful musical expression … of anguish even if that was your present condition. The sermon moved on to a marvellously pertinent input. And my thoughts went with a family member who wept in court when the client she was defending was declred “guilty”. The next hymn was also proking….. for everyone born… but those three helpless little ones whose mother was the one who gave birth and death… So incredibly complex and thank God Shirley Murray kept the “tough” verse 4 in. In my present life with up to 7x6 Support Workers so many of whom are immigrants and living in Auckland Your final prayer was very relevant.
The music at the beginning is ondof my favourites
Lovely to see everyone. Very lovely to see you Andrea😃
