Absolutely! Think I'm due to head down that way again soon, been too long
And where are the good parts?
th-cam.com/video/qknHiBrO2E4/w-d-xo.htmlsi=gk1FK3j3D9FGJ12M
Two years on and how is your system travelling? Have you added more storage and solar, because 300w is kind of on the low side if running a fridge and an electric blanket overnight on one battery.
Really good mate, they released a 200ah battery which I wish I got my hands on. But I can run the fridge, lights and charge phones for about 3-4 days no worries. The blanket has the system at 100% by the end of most days; currently at 124 cycles. I try to limit the use of the 12v oven and heavier loads to the middle of the day and use the handy pack for the smaller stuff overnight to limit the drain on the battery
Are the riv nuts waterproof ?
They pinch seal on the canopy and then obviously filled with a bolt. Though we used Sikaflex on the outside of the rivnut before inserting it just to be 100%
Love the photography and your cooking ideas 😊 next you’ll be talking 😂
Thank you haha I think I have a voice suitable for a book
Any water leaks ?
None mate, the rivnuts were sealed with Sikaflex
My advice....STOP MAKING TH-cam VIDEOS! YOU'RE REALLY BAD AT IT!
Darn. I thought you were going to show how to install the brackets & everything. That said. I like how sturdy it looks. Hopefully I can find a way to get this on my roof rack this weekend.
If you have the pioneer rack then it's a simple bolt down using a channel nuts. The awning has two channels on the backside that you slide the head of the bolt into
@@rialed.ventures I just have an Arksen rack off of eBay. Nothing crazy. So I'll probably have to do some further mods.
Heaps of room at Ohares ?
There's about 700m of camping spots in front of the water and the same behind. Unless you go the October long weekend when the annual fishing comp is on, it's generally a pretty quiet place to camp. There's 5 bridges on the Cabramurra side and most have access and camping grounds along the creek as well
@@rialed.ventures any trouble getting a caravan down there ?
@@shanelees3341 both ways in are very steep, though if you have a caravan I would definitely come from the Tumbarumba side. Windy roads with roos and horses, with a steep descent the last few k's
@@shanelees3341 in saying that, there's always plenty of caravans down there. Just a consideration
Just a question regarding solar, i noticed you have a fuse close to the battery positive terminal for the MPPT, do you need a fuse close to the MPPT as that will be bringing in charge to protect the wire? Or on the other side of the MPPT do you need a fuse close to the solar panels bringing charge to the MPPT?
I use a midi fuse to protect the battery from any unexpected surge from the MPPT charger; fuses should be appropriate for the cable being used, which should be appropriate for the level of draw/supply in the first place. Since the panel is a source of supplied power I always fuse the line between the panel and the MPPT as well. All good 12v companies will advise this and realistically, for 20 bucks it's cheap insurance
Well done, awesome video, but did not help me however. Could you do a quick video of installing a dcdc charger to a Savannah x 2020 with some nice close ups. Can be a generic dcdc charger or even a hypothetical charger, I just want to see the leads which I can hook my dcdc charger up to, from the line that runs from the battery to the front hitch Anderson connector??
Hi mate, sorry for the late reply. The 2020 model has an Anderson in the draw bar, by memory it feeds directly to the draw bar as a feed-in for the supplied solar panel and controller. This would be a suitable connection for your DCDC charger in the battery bay. Just make sure there's enough length of cable at the Anderson plug end to reach your vehicle while driving and allow for cornering. For the price and quality I personally would go for the RedArc 25amp BCDC core. This will give you plenty of charging power and still allow for solar input. Hope this helps
Nice video man. What was the music, I know it isn't, but reminds me of my mates band
Bit of a mix mate, what part are you referring to
@@rialed.ventures the last section at Eucambine River down 4 mile. At about 8.45 in until the end.
Had took take a look on my editing program. Its called, Tiger Gang: Interstellar (www.epidemicsound.com/)
Hey thanks heaps for that man. This is my mates band it reminded me of th-cam.com/video/seIC-33xrQE/w-d-xo.htmlsi=aDMS--zrU7e91T9Z
Hi. Can I use the install kit on the 250 watt panels. I am planning to install 2 x 250 watt panels with a 40 amp MPPT regulator. Can I also connect my portable solar panels onto my 2 x 120 amp hour AGM batteries at the same time. George.
Those installation brackets should suit any fixed solar panel, they're easy to install to suit your mounting surface. 500w would be more than sufficient to charge your batteries. If you're using the 40amp MPPT from Kickass then it's max input is 520w (for a 12v system). You shouldn't need to add any additional solar input to your current system. Hope this helps.
Great review mate. Thank you...
Thanks for the feedback mate
Great review. Didn't know these even existed! Thanks for sharing. 👍 😊
No worries mate, they're definitely not something I use a lot every trip, but very convenient to have and help to expand what you're able to cook while away. Best benefit I found was being able to easily reheat a meal or cook something while I'm travelling
Awesome installation mate! I'm thinking of getting the same panel for top of the Y62 to keep the battery topped up while the fridge is on 24/7!
Thanks mate! I've installed a few now, they're a good size in terms of dimensions and power output. I don't think you'd have any issue running the fridge continuously
Awesome video
Thanks mate, appreciate it
Nice vid mate so this will keep my 120ah lithium battery full charge like how it's black powder finish also ...also running a 25amp redarc. What's the charge time and size battery and type in the install?
The charge time will depend on a few things, like weather conditions, time of day, as well as the state of the battery and discharging rate. He's using a 100ah AGM at the moment, but will upgrade to a 120ah lithium shortly. Running an upright fridge, charging devices and 12v oven, the battery has never been below 80%
Nice video mate👍
Thanks mate, glad you enjoyed it
what amps do you get?
On the day I installed it I was getting mid 9s, around 3pm in February
Great review! Kickass made a mistake on their Fathers Day email so the original is going for $119 if you call them up, still $199 on the website. So absolute bargain!
Thanks mate 🤙 Yeah that's a great price! Might have to let a few mates know. Thanks for the heads up
You do realise that 300w at 10v is only 30a. At 14.4v it's only 21a
Lithium and AGM both have the same usable capacity. The 50% rule for AGM is just a guide for OffGrid systems. You will not hurt AGM with discharging below 50%
Looks awesome. Thanks for sharing. I was concerned that your battery hold down rods are a bit short and not through your locking nuts for proper retention! Also, if you haven't already, can you advise where some of your accessories were sourced from? I am also looking for busbar's and fuse blocks to rewire my recently acquired trailer.
Hey mate, the battery is held down by its own plate. On top of that is a small piece of rubber and then the midi fuse bracket which is held down with two nylock nuts which I was able to get full thread on, she's very sturdy. I get a lot of my little accessories from Complete Vehicle Designs (cvdesigns.com.au/)
Nice job
Thanks mate 👍
Do you use it much? I see a lot of people swapping these out for air fryers !! due to the versatily
Only a couple of times each trip. It's handy if you're traveling and want something ready when you get there. Airfryer would be great if your system could handle the power requirements. It would definitely get hotter quicker and cook better than a 12v oven
No sealant?
Hi mate, sorry I forgot to show it, but we sikaflexed the base of the rivnuts. No water ingress in the last few months
if your ever going to buy a second solar panel i will show you a trick to run both
Awesome review mate. The content in the review was awesome I watched a few reviews and they just talk about how good it is haha nothing about how long its going to take and temperatures etc. appreciate the effort mate
Thanks for the feedback mate. They're really handy to have, definitely has its limits but great when you're travelling or can't have a fire to cook
Very nice installation and very clean too! Something similar I would do but on the trailer direct to the battery in the future
Thanks mate, appreciate the feedback. It's maintained it's output almost a year on, very happy with the panel
Been looking into it a bit but still some reading up to do but yea panels on trailer doors (that lift up so they can charge the batteries while driving as well and while on the camp site so no need for 240v charger it’s always charged
Such a great job what size cable used and where do you get the midi fuse brackets from and for that matter where do go get all of your electrical bits and prices from ? Thanks again
Hey Scott, I used 8 gauge wiring which allows for 40amps. For the inverter I used 4 gauge. The smaller midi fuse holders and bracket are from a company called Complete Vehicle Designs (Sydney). Most of the accessories I get are from Jaycar, or if I need something specific that's hard to find, there's usually an eBay store that will stock what I need
Such a great job what size cable used and where do you get the midi fuse brackets from and for that matter where do go get all of your electrical bits and prices from ? Thanks again
Hey mate, sorry some comments slip through. I use 4 gauge for the inverter, 6 gauge for the battery to midi fuses and whatever is appropriate from there. I get a lot of things from Complete Vehicle Designs (cvdesigns.com.au/). Though the ANL fuse is from Renogy
Can't wait to go here later in the year 🤙
I think we went in May, the nights were really cold but the days were perfect! The caves are definitely worth checking out
They draw 10 amps. Not "10 amps an hour".
Nice work and it looks good. Perhaps more detailed install steps would be beneficial to viewers. I like the results from the install.
Thanks mate. What other details would you have liked to see?
Great video I agree with the last comment it would be great for us beginners to show what items used to fix panel to roof of Ute even the type of wire stripper used crimping tool, things of that detail you do such a tidy job it’s a pleasure to watch and I guess if I have the tools and the bits and pieces to try copy what you show us great work keep it going
@@scottmanson-dp8un thanks for the feedback mate, I might do a rundown of all the tools and accessories that I've found helpful. Cheers
Damn your on some Nathan Drake, Lara Croft, X games shit at 1:42 This video is super well shot and the scenery is awesome 👍 😀
Haha thanks mate! I'll ride the Nathan Drake compliment for a while 😅
Awesome review mate and I’ll be going for the original model. You talked temps being around 22degC yet didn’t mention the glass in the door on the later model doubled that temp. And as I’m a pie lover, PLEASE take your pies out of their foil cups lol! Foil is an insulator- it does not get hot or transmit heat- your pies will always have a soggy base. Sit the pie on the wire rack out of it’s foil cup and you’ll have a pie with the pastry cooked properly without all of it’s meat escaping out the bottom onto your lap lol. 👌
Where did you source the extention cable to the power outlet from? Can't seem to find any around.
It's just a 1m extension cord, the male end plugged into the inverter and the female cut and wired into a GPO
@@rialed.ventures did you put a breaker on it, or is it directly connected?
@@VonSpork directly, the inverter has built in surge protection
@@rialed.ventures thanks man. I'll definately do the same.
Awesome fit out loved the explanations and how it all went together. I am absolutely clueless with these kinds of things lol however I am converting a Tradies Trailer into a Camper and want a good quality 12v system to run everything from the fridge to the sink etc which is all still to get installed lol. Again awesome video
Thanks mate, appreciate the feedback! It's been going strong since the install, runs my fridge 24/7 with no issues. Flick me a message on Instagram if you need any more advice. Cheers
Bows and unregoed bikes a tad illagal there
Both bikes registered and the bow was for targets only and broke after 5 shots haha
Too much noise.
Thanks mate, definitely take that on board for the next video
Nice mate, love the videos - subscribed 👍My only 2 cents would be a few scenes with no music, just outdoor / camping noise would be cool. But good stuff.
Thanks mate! Yeah, I will definitely take that on board for the next video, cheers
Spot on. The music was like having a tooth removed

Great video mate really help full we just brought a older jayco swan and wanting to do some 12v upgrades
Thanks mate! Glad it helped
all that gear and ya cook nachos lol
Haha simple man, simple pleasures
Hi Nice Video On the four mile track can you turn around at the bottom with a hybrid camper on the back? Thanks Paul
Thanks mate. Yeah you can, but only right at the end near the river. There's a little flat section you can manoeuvre around
I can’t agree with the external temps of 21° and 22° when the ambient was 25° though. I just took temp readings (oven temp is at 141°). Top was 34° and glass door 71°. And it’s still heating so yeah - no way the temps were less than ambient. When oven got to 181° the glass door was 90° and the latch too hot to touch. Top was 37° and sides about 34° Took 100mins to get to 180° used 18.84Ah (0.14kWh). Max power 159.2W and 12.06A max.
Hi mate, nice work. Have just come across your channel. I just recently purchased the Kings 240V charger myself because I just upgraded to lithium also. You might be able to answer this, my old 7 stage charger would charge the battery, go through all of the stages and once fully charged it would continue to trickle charge and maintain the charge in the battery so it would remain full. It seems the kickass charger charges the battery to full and then stops? I was just recently away and using the charger in a caravan park and left the charger on the whole time as we were using 12V accessories also and the battery would show full once charged and then it would run down again without being further charged. I'm confused by it. Cheers mate
Hey mate, mine has been doing the same. I found disconnecting and reconnecting the charger fixed the problem for a while. I spoke with KickAss directly and they informed me that when the 240v charger is on the 'slow' charge mode that it will allow the battery to cycle down whilst under load, which apparently is good for the cells. You can select the 'fast' charging option which will increase the charge rate from 7amps to the full 22amps and maintain the battery at 100%. Hope this helps!
@@rialed.ventures mate thanks heaps for the reply. I'll have to check mine but I'm pretty sure mine was on fast charge and was showing full because I switched it over from night mode charging as were out for most off the day and when I came back my battery display was showing 195AH so some juice had been sucked out so it wasn't charging, and when I looked at the charger it was showing full, so it's like the battery charges then the charger stops even if amp hours or volts are being taken from it on loads
Had a look more into it. Apparently it's good for the longevity of a lithium battery to be depleted 20-30% before charging. Might just be a feature of the charger
@@rialed.ventures Thanks again for the reply mate. Will have to give kickass a call myself doesn't make sense to me that I can have the battery on charge but will still lose charge? If I have a few things going for the day and I am out there's every chance that I could come back and the Battery could discharge and lose all of its usable charge? Seems silly because on the other hand if it was connected to solar I'd be replacing what I am using which is what you want to achieve isn't?
@@geoffstein3896 yeah completely agree! Should be maintained at 100% Apparently it's good for the lithium cells to discharge a bit. But surely shouldn't be getting below 70-80% and adding unnecessary cycles
Great sceneries! Liked and subscribed!
Legend mate, thanks heaps! 🤙
