How I turned my V6 Camaro into a V8 beast: Driveway Swap
Bro why aren’t you posting more
So did the trans lines all bolt right up
7k ?
I’m aware this is a year old but this is great! I was wondering if it was possible because the only engine we have is a v8 for when my v6 finally does decide she’s done :,)
There’s always hope. Do a 6th gen next.
What year did u use for the donor I got a v6 2011 and I'm looking for a donor car and was your donor car in a rekt?
You’d need a 2010-2015
We're you running bootcamp or something to run hptuners on your mac?
Yo this is sick man I was thinking on doing it could you give me pointers on how. My biggest fear at the moment is the wiring process
I’m a little confused did this whole process cost the same as a used 2013 ss camaro
But I appreciate you bro for keeping the real car enthusiasts alive great job bro
Yes
The simple beauty of pulling off a complete engine and transmission swap but doesn’t know what the brake booster vacuum hose does. Priceless.
That’s what it’s called?!?!!!!
Gotta learn somehow. At least he did it!
I’m getting a 5.3 LS and I want a Camaro but just wanted to ask. If I get a V6 Camaro would that transmission on it already be able to fit the LS I want to put in it?
Going to have to get another transmission. I’m doing the same exact thing with the same exact engine for my Camaro
I don’t think so but I have no clue
It's the cost of the car included in the breakdown?
Nope, just the swap
hey man i was curious about the vin matching for the ecm tcm and bcm did you just flash a matching vin for all 3 parts I am mainly asking because Powertrain Swaps Solutions now makes a 10 speed swap kit and just like the 5th Gen Camaro it needs to match the cars existing vin as a requirement for everything to work wanna do something similar to my v6
I had a donor car to swap out all of the computers but when that didnt work I used HP Tuners to deleted the VATS which solved my mismatching vin situation.
Still cheaper than an SS tho
just barley!
Hey Connor question, I'm looking to do an engine swap on mine as well. A 2012 LT. Was thinking of going ahead and getting a specific V8 Borla cat back exhaust while the V6 is still in there. Should it be able to fit with no problems besides maybe an adapter for different diameter sizes? I think I remember you saying you stuck with the V6 exhaust on the swap in a previous video til now, wanted your experience on it.
I know the v8 exhaust is slightly larger in diameter at some points but the mounting is the exact same. As long has it connects to your cats you are good to go!
I know nothing of properly doing an ls swap but couldnt you just swap in a truck LS for like $2k? I know u prolly wanted to go all out getting an ss but couldnt a super budget swap have gone this route?
I barley know anything about ls swapping if im being honest. But by swapping an ls from a Camaro you get the aluminum block and a low profile oil pan so it fits. besides that the engine is the same and you can definitely just throw on a low profile oil pan on an ls truck engine and throw that in the Camaro.
Like to gain your help to Swap V6 in my GMC V6 LFX to same type motor you have in Maro
I would love to help. DM me on insta @connor.michael.mckenzie
So much easier to do that the right way
I was so drunk doing this I dont even remembered how we even did it.
Newark as viewed from the Purntike
so swap it or just buy an ss/lt1
Its not guaranteed success but it is so rewarding once done. If you like working on cars and need an excuse for a fun engine swap project then definitely do it.
Would this part smog
I guess we will never know
Kinda dumb question, I have a v6 2018 camaro will the chassis fit a ZL1 engine or is there difference between ZL1 chassis and the v6 of the same year.
I am not positive but I believe the chassis is the exact same. I believe ZL1s have coolant lines running to the diff and the diff on a zl1 is bigger and doesnt fit quite right.
@@connormckenzie5648 I see thx for the information!
U could have just bought a ss for same money but good job
True
why did you need to swap the inside wiring harness?
I went from an auto trans to a manual. So when I installed the clutch pedal it needed to connect to the dash harness and the auto dash harness does not have that plug on it.
And still cheaper than a used ss this is a great idea especially if you are mechanically inclined
It was the most fun project I have ever done in my life!
I can get a used ss for 13-22k depending on miles. There's one for 15k with upgrades and it's a 2ss rs model with only 68k miles lol. Idk how this build was cheaper than a ss. Also most 2ss in my area come already slightly upgraded. One has a zl1 OEM body kit and blower for only 22k it's crazy.
How much would charge do somethin like this?
Like just labor wise probably around 5-6k
Any update it's been one year
I feel like that would be a good video
How the hell did you learn how to do all this!😲 Are you a mechanic? Or just self-taught?
I’m just about the dullest tool in the shed. But when you don’t give up on something eventually you will run out of things to go wrong. That was me, 1 million problems and the motivation to fix them.
Could have bought a used SS for that.
You are about the 20th comment about this. Which makes me realize how many people just don’t get it. It’s okay but not everything is about money. Sorry you think that way 😔
What type of v8 is it???
2013 LS3 from a 2013 Camaro SS
How long did the swap take?
Like 23 months but it was mainly just waiting for parts to arrive
Did u have to change the rear transaxle or can u use the same from the v6 for v8
I used the v6 dif and axels
keep up the good work!!
Thanks, will do!
Not convinced with that startup bro, sounds like edited in audio ✌️
I have no idea how to edit audio lol
If the engine isn't there after pulling upto the curb that's a big problem 😜
Ngl I’m hammered and do t fully understand what you are talking about. The swap was ruff but super doable
Dude. Should have bought a used motor. Gen 6 engine and transmission for 5k. You should have bought just a real SS for 12k
I did buy a used motor. But buying a used ss isn’t exactly riveting content. Sorry to disappoint but the memories I have from this project will last forever
@@connormckenzie5648 you didn't disappoint. It's the experience that count. Right on. Are u planning on doing another swap?
Where did you get 5 quarts for $25😂
AutoZone
Ouch! your better off buying a BRAND NEW CAR.
There is something about building your own car that's just better than a dealership.

CAT
Nice cat
Thanks, her name is Lucy
I'd like to do that...
It was one of my greatest experiences!
Awesome...alot of work...great job
Thanks 👍
Very Cool. I wish I could do something like that. How did someone your age become so knowledgeable? I am 62 and have a supercharged (Procharger) 2002 WS-6 Trans-Am that ALWAYS needs something worked on and I struggle...ALOT. I wish I could learn how to do what you know how to do. I would like to see more on how your build went.
To be honest I have 0 mechanical background and this was my first time ever seeing an engine out of a car but it was my only car so I had to make it work. You can achieve anything when the stakes are high enough.
Did you get the AC fixed?
No, but what a great video idea!
Yessir, thanks for the vids, I have v6 but with a shit ton of sentimental value, I plan on swapping. Which year did you get the motor from and can you make a video or include a tool list you needed for the swap please?
I am thinking about doing a Camaro V6 with a ZL 1 I bought wreck engine has 12k the Camaro v6 is just a clear title roller
Thats going to be awesome!
You didn’t need to swap rear end??
Rear dif and axels are all stock v6
The insurance company won't know its a V8.
I’m still unsure if that’s a good thing or a bad thing
Looking to do this in my gen 2 CTS. About to watch your other videos I hope you have lots of info😂
If you have any questions HMU!
Rich kid
right!
Gonna throw a caprice L77 in my v6
ayeee, thats whats up
