I like to write songs
Little Robe Creek
Hello I am folk singer-songwriter Avry Truex and this is an acoustic version of my original song "Little Robe Creek" inspired by the great Ian Tyson's "Bob Fudge." I hope you enjoy it
Stream my new album "Pine Tree Poetry: The Full Collection" below:
I was once a good man, fought for the badge I wore
Alongside my Sharps rifle, through the days of the Texas wars
In ’58 we made our way through the land of Comanche
Now my bones are laid to rest on the banks of Little Robe Creek
I’d ridden with the Caddo, the Anadarko too,
But in all my days, I’d never met a man who’d do what we was to do
Word came down from Ford, Iron Jacket’s camp we’d found
“Kill them all, take what you want, then burn it to the ground.”
We sat around till dawn, till the whites of our eyes they saw
Their sticks and stones won’t break our bones, like the lead for them we’ve brought
The shouts began to ring, with the light of the rising sun
The fight for Little Robe Creek and Oklahoma had now begun
We rode ‘em down, rounded ‘em up
Burned their land, then it was done
A young girl, I watched her run
Then sent her for the dirt, with a lead ball from my gun
Then all at once, the world stood still
As I got down off my horse to go inspect my kill
Two eyes just like mine, only hers were cold and dead
So I reached for my six shot and I placed it ‘gainst my head
In ’58 we made our way through the land of Comanche
Now my bones lay next to hers on the banks of Little Robe Creek

Great song and video!
Great song!
Nice tune! Even a field recording can benefit from a run through the gonkulator. Hear yourself better in my enhanced audio playlist.
It's unlikely you remember hanging out Centennial Park in Nashville (2023, iirc), but It's good to see that your still working and making music! Good luck!
