You are viewing two juxtaposed photos of Elk River, in Webster Springs, WV, adjacent the Ace Hardware/Vicky’s restaurant buildings. The first photo was taken Sunday, 15 September 2024, followed by a second one 17 October 2017.
Note the gauge readings 9.45cfs for the recent photo versus 11.9cfs for the October 2017 photo.
The 2024 gauge reading was a much lower level than the 2017 reading. In spite of lower 2024 reading, many more rocks are dry and visible in the 2017 photo, and thus should indicate a lower reported reading.
Why is the 2017 photo not a lower cubic-feet-per-second level?
Has the water upstream of Baker Island been diverted more toward the Go-Mart side?
If so, the gauge at the bridge is erroneous and may need recalibration.
Additionally, are these the only creekbed images of tessellated strata patterning in the United States?
At present I cannot find similar geologic tessellated patterning in the United States. The only other occurrence seems to occur at Lufra, Eaglehawk Neck on the Tasman Peninsula of Tasmania.
Another regional uniqueness of Webster County, West Virginia is a phenomenon known as rotten-egg water (which is found at other places in our region of the Appalachians) Might there be a geologic correlation between tessellated patterning and rotten-egg water?
It is my guess that there exists a chemical causation, but I am seeking others with expertise in these sciences.
Likewise, is it possible that the underlying gasses, deep under the riverbed, have built pressure eons ago and the vibrations/harmonics created the faults on which the salt (in the salt sulphur foul smelling water) eroded the cracks to reveal the river bed we now have in Elk River?
Furthermore, I have seen videos and photos of sound/vibrations/harmonics in action with different frequencies creating symmetrical patterns of dust on a plate. Might this be a contributory reason why the Elk riverbed has similar features?
My coordinates/position on this blue marble is N 38.445296 W -80.436129, which, according to Google Earth Pro, is directly opposite of S 38.445296 E 99.563871. My opposite position on earth is a point in the Southern Indian Ocean, just 1,000 miles off Perth which is on the same parallel as Tasmania (where the only other known tessellated patterning occurs) but on the western side of Australia. Go figure!
One thing about it, excluding politics, Webster Springs, WV is a very unique, interesting place!
