As a GenXer, I have never seen, in all the hooplah about how tough we were raised, raising ourselves, it explained as well as this dude here. All riding our bikes together, in school, best friends with everyone. But I do have to say, about this narrative I see with us being so tough....where the fuck we at? Now, powers have done a great job in dividing and conquering. They have grandparents and grandchildren blaming one another: "Millennials are too lazy," say the boomers. "The boomers were too selfish," say the millennials. And here we are, the generation who took in wise words from Chuck D, Tupac, Kurt Cobain, the whole major anti-culture movement where our male singers would even wear dresses on stage just to say, "Who cares?" We did the Time Warp. As fucked as it was, even our '99 Woodstock, when the corps charged insane amounts of money just for bottled water, Woodstock got fucked up. So. Where are we with the state of things?? We are, in my opinion, laying a little too low to have to have others "find out." And I don't mean with violence. But I think our generation did have eye opening that our parents didn't have. And as brilliant as some of the younger generations are- not being lazy but going, "I'm not going to work when I can't even afford a place to live," we can teach both generations a lot. We might be the last generation who got to feel that working hard meant something, to get out on your own, get a place, car, etc. That has been taken away. I appreciate my brother from another mother in this vide, laying something smart down, like, just looking at money instead of what a candidate says or what color tie they put on for their costume. I wish we would have a "You fucked up now find out" march. We need to do something. We won't have a retirement. As the many "retired" boomers are finding out, they're having to go back to work. I think GenX needs to start running for office and making moves and saying things like this cat did.
