    I want to understand what motivates a player/deck builder like this. You built a staple filled $6k deck that I don’t think would be able to compete if we let it into a $100 max “cedh” tourney. Have you never heard of cedh? Do you have some pride in “not playing cedh”? Then why are you trying to build as good a deck as you can w/out just looking into the stuff we figured out in cEdh?? It’s obviously not a money thing, right? You can build a cedh deck cheaper than this w/out a doubt. Idk man this just looks like a pub stomper. It would stand no chance at all in a cedh pod. In fact it would just mess up the game for the other players I think. And it’s gonna beat the shit out of most, say, $240 LGS decks. It won’t beat the $100 decks I, personally play, but I’m something of a specialist. I have a fully optimized Malcom Tana deck in paper. It tends to attempt a win turn 3 and then it is able to grind very hard if it can’t get under the other decks in the pod. It’s like $4k 🤷‍♂️. You could easily have built a “real” deck for $6k. This type of deck, which I’m seeing more and more of, is the reason I keep almost creating my TH-cam channel. (Well, my new channel) I want to teach people how to spend very little on decks that just frog stomp these LGS money piles that people play away from cedh pods. This was the final piece of inspiration I needed. You just birthed Budget Pubstomper! Namaste homie 🤷‍♂️nice.. 🤷‍♂️casual??? Or, idk?, atrocious cedh deck 🤔 No idea

    • @CommandersCitadel
      @CommandersCitadel 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'm certain this will clear the air for you. You are right in one regard. This deck will not stand a chance in a Cedh tournament because this deck is not a cedh deck. It's a high power casual deck. I am well aware on what Cedh is. In fact the problem I have is with the "C" in Cedh. "Competitive" Cedh decks and players are hyper focused in the "Win at all cost" mentally and strategy. While Cedh can be fun, fun is more of a byproduct in those games. Not to mention that all Cedh decks are build the same way. (Mana rocks, free spells, tutors, interaction and finally an instant "I win" combo) Usually Thassas oracle/Tainted pact. In your case with Malcom/Tana it's probably a (Glint-horn buccaneer + other pinger, Kiki-jiki+corrido monitor, or Dualcaster Mage+twinfalme) or somewhere along those lines I'm certain. Unless you are actually competing, cedh decks in my opinion are not fun because the win condition is repetitive in all their decks. There's a reason casual and cedh are separated even though they're in the same format. The reason you're seeing more decks like this is because people are realizing and understanding the differences. Maybe it's a sign for you to relax on building cutthroat Cedh decks and prioritize having fun. I can say the same with high power edh decks and budget edh decks. I get that not everyone has $4-$6K to drop on a deck. Fortunately I play casually with friends to have fun so for those reason we play with proxies. Even our LGS allow us to play with proxies. It's a great environment where your deck idea and build isn't limited to the money you make. We don't play for prizes, only for fun. So while this Omnath deck you looked at may cost $6K to build it only costed me $30 total including sleeves and a deck box. You can make this deck budget friendly if you really wanted to. Most staples and dual lands is significantly increasing the price of this deck but the core of the deck is what really matters and with just that you can make this deck with about $300-$400 give or take. I have a real Cedh Kenrith, the returned king deck worth over 10k that I haven't played with in over 4 years because I don't have much fun playing with it. That's not just my opinion but the opinions of most people I play with. Cedh is not fun. I get a greater sense of satisfaction beating my opponents down to 0 with stompy creatures over and instant "I win" combo. I'm glad I inspired you to finally create your channel because you inspired me to make a video on the differences between Cedh and edh. I wish you the best. If you're ever in the Los Angeles area and want to dip your toes in casual matches let me know. I have plenty of decks you can borrow. Mtg players are always welcomed. Hopefully this shined some light in your understanding with the style. I would truly like to know your thoughts after this.

    add phyrexian dreadnought, 1 cost 12/12 trample who when he ETBs has you sacrifice creatures with power 12 or higher, or hes buried himself. cloaking skips the ETB same for arixmethes slumber counters on etb. 4 mana 12/12 mana dork just dont flicker them, as they'll ETB and youll get the negative stuff. that said, ive built the deck much more tame than you did, no super toxic stuff like jin gitaxias or annihilator eldrazi, hullbreaker and co. its more like a yugioh trap card deck where nobody knows what lies there and it could be literally anything at any time. everyone liked it so far, its alot of fun to play!

    why play 'high power' why not just play cedh? 'high power' seems like ur just playing janky cedh, ur purposefully making the deck less consistent. whats the goal with a deck like this? to stomp on 'pl 7-8' lobbies? because thats all i see decks like this doing, unless youre playing a carefully curated game with other people also playing a janky 'high power'-but-not-quite-cedh-because-i-purposely-built-it-this-way decks.

      I played both high power and Cedh extensively. Cedh decks are concerned with winning at all cost. While Cedh decks can be fun I noticed that "fun" is more of a byproduct. There Is a different sense of satisfaction when you drop all your opponents life to 0 with stompy creatures or burn spells vs an infinite combo that results in an instant "I win". Theres a reason why those 2 styles are separated even though its in the same EDH format. The table I play with are there to have fun, not to compete.

    If you add Naru Meha alot of thinks blink spells become draw as much as you want spells or if you blink 2 creatures infinite ETBs. Also It That Betrays is way better than Koma, it provides an annahilator and portal synergy, Also conjures closet is a great choice. Also Ixidron is super cool in this deck. You can face down other people's commanders and flip yours back.

    • @CommandersCitadel
      @CommandersCitadel 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You can totally swap Koma for It that betrays. Koma can often be a sleeper card. When it gets out of hand its almost too late for your opponents to control it. With It that betrays your opponents are likely to kill it on sight. There's a high chance I may not survive the turn cycle. I have enough eldrazis and other creature with a priority killing on their backs. Conjures closet is a good edition but I can't make room for another 5 drop. The cost is too high.

      @@CommandersCitadel you dont really ned to cast things if you don't want to in the deck. vannifar effectively set ups permanents to blink. You can blink morphed/flipped permanent to get them back face up. and if your afraid to play threats out right you can bait out removal by playing things face down and letting your opponents imagination run wild especially since a face down big eldrazi will shuffle everything back in. just blinking it that betrays with portal to phyrexia using something like Displace or illusionist stratagem makes sure that the value is retained as the etbs and timing gets funky. conjureres closet can be wild. Once its face up or you cast it value is insane especially since your flipping omniscience.

    I tried brewing rowan this way as well, with the all-in strategy of paying almost all of your life to win with a big x spell, but I noticed a few problems with it. First, the gameplay loop seems pretty repetitive. Not a big con for some people, but something to note. Second, the strategy actually discourages early game life loss because cards like dark confidant and the pain lands will get your life lower than your opponents, meaning that you need super efficient x spells to win, being only crackle with power and torment of hailfire which can deal more damage than life paid to a single target. The little mana reductions aren't that helpful either because all the setup pieces are quite cheap. Play a life drainer, play rowan, and win with an x spell in hand. So in the end, I decided to change the list I made before buying to have more controlled life loss, and instead of a lot of x spells, a number of huge black and red game enders. It's definitely not as powerful, but it should be more consistent and more fun

    • @CommandersCitadel
      @CommandersCitadel ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree! The deck's strategy is pretty repetitive but I think that's the case with most Rowan decks. There aren't many different direction you can take her without sacrifice power. As far as early game loss, I wouldn't suggest waiting too long to get the engine going either. The idea of this deck is to lose a massive amount of life in the early turns to secure the game because you're likely to be at high life with plenty to spare. Once your table gets familiar with this deck you will be all 3 of your opponents main target of attack. The longer the game goes, your chances of winning become nonexistent. It's already in the ranks of KILL ON SIGHT. The early life loss does depend on what you have in your hand as well. I am more than willing to lose 3 life from a search land into a shock land to cast a Bolas's Citadel for only 3 black mana. The deck is filled with many low cost cards that can take advantage of even 1 life lost. I would like to see your build if you have a link to it?

    Suprized your not running facination, prosperity, minds aglow and skyscribing, these cards are both explosive in the way it gives you easily 78 or higher reduction after playing a wheel, my version also runs a ton of mana rocks so I can keep going pretty much garanteed, almost all 3 mana mana rocks and lower that dont come in tapped and arnt fast mana cause its a budget list, but the force draw chains easily let you force draw your opponents 99 and than you can use thran foundry or feldons cane to make sure you dont die from drawing so much so its 1 sided, absurdly fun and one of the only true force draw decks in edh that isnt a group hug stratagy, the deck can also just win this way with smothering tithe and not the cmdr

    • @CommandersCitadel
      @CommandersCitadel ปีที่แล้ว

      I do run prosperity and Mings aglow. I mention them on minute 3:00 of the video. This is an incredibly fun deck indeed. usually one wheel is enough to get the engine going.

    This deck tech is brutal!!! Hard to interact with because you don’t want to take Etali out so that you can re-cast… a definite headache when it’s played!

      You already know! Countering Etali is the best way to stop it, that’s why I went heavy on anti blue.

    Thanks for this video. I have not been playing MTG for that long and Omnath seems super powerful but hard to master as a newbie. Your deck tech helped quite a bit. Now trying to build a more budget-friendly version of it to test it out and then see if I go bigger.

      I'm really happy to hear my deck tech was helpful. Omnath is an amazing commander! You will have a wonderful time piloting this deck. I might be able to help. When you say budget friendly what exactly would that amount be?

    This deck needs Mirri’s Guile for top deck manipulation and early game color fixing. Just remember that Omnath activates at precombat main and Guile at upkeep, so the second card you stack will trigger Omnath.

      I wouldn't be opposed to that idea. Omnath is quickly becoming a kill on sight general. Maybe a swiftfoot boots will do the trick.

    Love this omnath version, any chance you'd brew smth more budget friendly with him, in the 100-300 bucks area?

    • @CommandersCitadel
      @CommandersCitadel ปีที่แล้ว

      I normally test my decks out against my play group before I make a deck tech on it and my playgroup doesn't play with budgets. It would be difficult to see how a budget deck competes against those types of decks. I'd suggest you stick with the main strategy on the vid and fill the rest of the deck with budget friendly cards. I would also stick with the 21 ramp, 15 draw and 15 removal card formula. That will help out tremendously. If you have your own build I can take a look at it and make some upgrades for you.
