As of now, this channel is dedicated to the explanation and demonstration of the game Wing Leader. This war-game, designed by Lee Brimmicombe-Wood and published by GMT Games, deals with World War II aerial combat. I may expand this channel in the future to demonstrate other tabletop wargames.

gregory Boyington was part of the AVGs , so that means one day we will remember that an American with Sioux blood was fighting for the chinese . hystory is marvelous
@@gogol1st I just listened to Boyington’s memoir. Quite the interesting experience he had in the AVG.
I watched all your Wing Leader videos which I found extremely useful in learning the rules. I wish you could do another one that features both flak and proper bombing!
@@tobypilling3675 thanks! I’m glad they were a help. I intended to do more videos at the time in which I would have covered advanced bombing and flak rules, but I got distracted with other projects. If you are interested we have a discord channel dedicated to Wing Leader and it’s a good platform for asking questions as you are learning or find an opponent to play with.
No part 2?
@@jumpmaster82nd. I made a part two, but it’s not well done and I ended up not posting it. Was mainly wanting to show the solo system in action. I’m sure I’ll make another one once playtesting is done.
@@jumpmaster82nd. well I just realized I actually did upload it but just never made it public. It’s public now if you want to take a look.
@wholenineyards7280 I know Volko said he wouldn't launch the game until his solo system was solid, of value and fun. Most admirable! Ok, just wondered! Thanks!
@@wholenineyards7280 I was just happy to see how the game operates. Even if your vid isn't a masterpiece and gets that across then it'll be fine!
Was fighter O able to drop five squares to attack the bomber it had tallied? I thought you only gained one movement point when diving?
@@tobypilling3675 diving to a square directly below you only costs half a movement point. Not sure which part of video you’re referring to, but I’m wondering if it involved moving to a square directly below.
Pre-ordered
I’m itching to play this one! On my P500 list as well!
I've got it Pre-ordered. Looks interesting and a nice change of pace!
This one is going on my P500 “must have list”!
Thank you great playthrough
Nice training videos but you don't make them anymore? I hope everything goes well. Greetings
I'm getting the game even watching your videos. Thanks for sharing
I just found your channel, and am a new WL player, so this is great for me. Shame you chose to have your microphone in a different room from where you were playing though.
Yeah I was trying to keep my voice down since my recording times were early in morning while my family was still sleeping. Didn’t realize how quiet I was until too late
@@wholenineyards7280 I broke out my good headphones, so all is well... and I know about keeping it down when others are asleep lol. (No games with dice rolls at certain times in my house lol)
Hello, sorry for these multiple questions, How do you get out of a dogfight? if this is possible of course.
Once in a dogfight, a squadron stays in a dogfight until either one side breaks (all enemies fail their cohesion rolls) OR in the tally phase, a squadron can “drop” their tally on the enemy. Dropping a tally will allow the squadron to use free movement during the movement phase since they will start their movement in the same space with enemies. However, they will not be able to roll for a new tally on the same turn they drop their tally since they are not allowed to make tally attempts outside their space when their are enemies in the same space with them. Dropping tally in a dogfight would allow a squadron with a better better climb rate to get away from enemies.
@@wholenineyards7280 thanks Very much
Awesome videos and great deal of explanations.
hello, just a question, at 18:19 during the dogfight test the Chinese fighter came out victorious, but if he had lost there would have been a dogfight. so at that time, the chinese fighter would have lost its tally on the japanese bomber and would have replaced it with a tally marker on the japanese fighter is that right? Thx
Correct!
Just got this game and thanks for your play throughs.
video very well explain, at 33:00 you decide to apply a hit to the bomber because you made only one hit and if you had made 2 hits could you have inflicted one hit on the bomber and the other on the fighter or both hits will go on the same plane. thx for this video
You have to assign the hits as evenly as possible amongst the possible targets . . . So in the event I had scored two hits, the second hit would have to target the fighters.
I've not words to many thanks you for these video series, thants incredible!
Thanks for these videos, have you the first expansion too?
You’re welcome! Yes I have all the expansions for Wing Leader.
Thanks for all your Wing Leader videos, they are excellent! Sadly I am selling this one off, actually I was watching all "Target Madrid" episodes yesterday while sorting all the pieces, kind of sad. I guess I needed this to be played vs someone. I didn't really get into playing this two-handed, but I can imagine this an excellent multiplayer game.
Thank you and glad you enjoyed them. Did you ever try playing an opponent via vassal?
Great to see you back!
I really appreciate all your WL videos. Thanks and keep it going!
Great videos, thank you but didn't you forget the effect of the sun ? You don't mention it.
Hi again, I've watched all of your videos up to #16 (four left to go) Out of interest, do you plan to produce any more in the future? As a suggestion, how about video on creating your own scenarios? Thanks again!
Hi Derek! Thanks for watching! Yes I do want to create more videos, it’s just finding the time to do. I like the idea of an episode on creating your own scenario, but I would have to give it considerable thought before trying. I may as time permits but for now I’m planning to cover scenarios that introduce advanced bombing rules at the present. Keep passing the suggestions along though. One thought I’ve had for a long time is creating a “dynamic campaign” system similar to Drive on Kursk but one that would work with any nation vs any nation. Something non-historical rather.
@@wholenineyards7280 Hi, No problem - I totally understand about finding the time... I really like the your plan to cover scenarios introducing advanced bombing rules, but I'm particularly excited by your idea of creating a 'dynamic campaign'; definitely looking forward to seeing that come to fruition in the future! Many thanks! Cheers, Derek
Hi, Just wanted to say I love your series on Wing Leader. Your videos are well presented and so informative. Thanks for taking the time to make them - much appreciated!
Hey thanks for the feedback. It definitely is much appreciated and motivating.
Picked up Wing Leader: Supremacy 2nd edition after watching some of these videos. Hope to see more. Maybe a scenario with the advanced bombing rules?
Wonderful! You’ll enjoy it! I’ll try to get one with advanced bombing rules up.
Thanks for the video! You have been tempting me to buy the game for a while ;) What starting box would you recommend to get started in the game?
I would definitely recommend getting Wing Leader: Victories. The scenario book presents initial scenarios in a logical learning order. For the first 5 or 6 scenarios, you are eased into the system.
Hey Pete - love your work but don't like the 'narrow' screen
Yeah that was a mistake on my part. It want until after I finished recording that I had recorded it vertically.
@@wholenineyards7280 Pete - I still enjoyed the session - still waiting on my copy of the game - you have reduced the learning curve for me dramatically- it is amazing that you love the game so much that you invest time and effort for others - thanks again from Mark in Australia.
22:55 Don't you have to use all the movement points?
You can use up the rest of the movement points within a square. You don’t have to spend all the movement points moving to different squares.
just subbed, nice video! ^^, minor issue for me is the lip smacks, they annoy me a lot but i know it is hard to change that
Thanks for the feedback. I will try to limit those going forward.
this video is not in the wing leader playlist, so it skips from 8-10 i had to dig this up. Thank you for this series. quality WL gameplay in english is not easy to find and i like to learn rules by watching gameplay until i think i could play the game and then reading the rulebook cover to cover.
Ah thanks for pointing that out. Fixed it.
Another nice playthrough. On that last attack I was thinking to myself "I hope he remembers that flight is down to 1 aircraft..." So does this mean you're going to run through the scenarios in chronological order now?
I currently have the next scenario (chronologically) setup and waiting for an opportunity to record a play through of it.
Very clear run through of the mechanics and nice to see low-powered, relatively disadvantaged types getting a run out
Escort should be moving in same way like bombers, so they should dive like gliding bombers. But still succesfull reaction,so no problem :-)
Hello and thanks for the comment. Yes you are correct that escorts must match bomber movement. 15.2.2 allows for escorts to “begin circling” and then reform back up as escorts after that (sidebar indicates that this would be appropriate during the bombing run). So my movement straight forward with the escorts was not legal but, as you stated already, the reaction would have still be successful. Thanks for watching!
@@wholenineyards7280 Yes and you can also switch their profile to sweep. Nice playthrough, I am looking forward to my copy of Legends :-)
I really appreciate/enjoy your Wing Leader videos. Thank you.
Hey thanks for the encouraging word!
@@wholenineyards7280 Well-deserved. Actually, pointing others to your vids on my channel (KillRoyWasHere) in comments to my Wing Leader vids (just getting started on WL series and your vids are great).
Looks great! I like the look of the campaign structure too!
Great News! Eagerly awaiting my copy.
Well done Pete! Keep up your good work.
Pete, excellent as always! Thank you for your effort.
Hi :) im finally looking into ww2 war games. Looking into both solitaire and/or 2 player games with solo variant. sadly there is no bf 109 leader yet, cause that would be instant buy for me so i spent past two days watching videos about all leader games and cant decide. I found Wing Leader and I've read that it's actually very playable solo. On BGG it has a lot of votes for one player gameplay. Can you confirm? Is it just you vs you with all decisions like you can sometimes learn new game before taking it to friends or does it have some special mechanics? Cant find any video on this topic. :) if not then what would you recommend for solo player? stay safe
Hi there! I have played Wing Leader for around 5 years now and still LOVE IT! For me it really captures the feel of WW2 air combat in a way other games that focus on individual aircraft can’t. As to your solo question, there are no rules specifically for solo. It is playing both sides using the same rules two players use. However, the game operates with “mission tasking” so that squadron move is sort of predetermined until they “tally” enemy aircraft, so that helps with the solo play for sure. It just works really well solo without adding solo rules. I highly recommend it. But I will say it is quite a different feel from the Leader games. So don’t go in expecting Leader.
Great video - these really help me learnt to play the game. Did you forget to apply the 'Edge' benefit to the Hurricane though, when calculating the combat in the clouds?
Yes I did miss it. I catch it later in the video though.
Thanks again, nice play through. Glad to see that it is indeed possible to kill bombers 😁 I always end up flying home with a bloody nose. Will be adding bounce and attacking with new knowledge. Do you have any experience in meting up with a friend and learning him/her the rules before playing? I have a friend that would like to try the game out but there are so many small rules so I’m worried it’s going to take to long and I miss some critical information. My first thought was trying one of the intro scenarios with me ‘controlling the bombers. But then after that any suggestions for a good manageable two player scenario?
For new players in person, I always play right through the first few Victories scenarios in order. Each successive one adds a few more rules and is perfect for teaching.
So move on to Birthday Surprise, then Stalingrad Airlift etc.
@@wholenineyards7280 thanks for the suggestions!
Nice series of videos for Penny Packet scenario. Quite the good rolls for cohesion for both British fighters and German bombers
great video this is automatically like
