Regenerative Grazing Update 31 days of Rest
This is our update on regenerative grazing during the year 2024. Without realizing the impact it would have on our small 15-acre homestead, Jeanette and I decided to start grazing our small flock of hair sheep to help clear and clean our pasture. Sheep work great at cleaning up our fields. We have found that katahdin sheep for us seem to like more of the weed and buck brush while dorper sheep prefer more of the grass and hay. Currently, our field is out growing our expectations, more grass, and better varieties of plant life for soil health and animal health.
In previous years, we have taken from the land by baling hay, we have never put any commercial fertilizer or seeded the field other than a part of the front where it was torn and wood chips had been shredded underneath the power lines. This year, we bought some native wild flower seeds and spread them in the field. Other than that, we intend on it to see itself. Thank you for your continued support of our channel.

      My solution only worked for a while. Honestly, you would be better to scrap that one and buy a hovabator. Unfortunately we had 4 of these and all of them do the same and the manufacturer is well aware of it with no fix.

      @PetersonFarmstead 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No we had negative temps and some new mommas. Normally I try for fall babies and the ram I had missed. So, some of the babies were pulled and bottle fed. Usually if they reject the lamb, they are either sold or they go to freezer camp.

    • @MichaelElMexicano-vn4cp
      @MichaelElMexicano-vn4cp 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Compost isn't necessary, as long as you have good soil. But if you want a little extra nutrition, I've used top soil out of my forest before.

    • @Vastar76
      @Vastar76 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I thought leaves were toxic for plants?

    • @MichaelElMexicano-vn4cp
      @MichaelElMexicano-vn4cp 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I just take a rake and rake the top layer of leaves off. Then the bare forest soil is exposed. Since my forest has been untouched for decades, it has 3-4 inches of nutrient rich soil under the top layer of leaves. Just make sure not to get any green vegetation or non-decomposed leaves and you'll be fine.

    • @Vastar76
      @Vastar76 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Oh...that makes sense. I don't have much land, but there is a little forest. Idk how long it has been there. I guess I can rake the leaves off and see what kind of dirt is underneath. Thanks!

      They have spores that they release and that is called inoculation. You can buy inoculated dowels that can be placed into the wood. That's how we get a continuous harvest. The fungus will eventually no longer have nutrients from the log we inoculated, so we will have to inoculate more logs.

I'll check all the rest see what else you said about the seller! (Me). And we'll go from there. If you have animals free ranging your doing wrong by everyone. Your the one with the sheep goats pigs whatever. Missouri law say you need to put up a fence to keep them on your place! You are the animal owner. I don't want them on my place anymore. It's your responsibility to fence them in. Why don't you do a go fund me for fence! Damn right it was worth more than 110,000 when I sold it to you! I hope you don't come up on desperate times like we did and have to sell for less than it's worth! But at least I didn't beg for money!

    • @PetersonFarmstead

      Lol we haven't been digging it out, that's what the flood did after you sold us a finished house that was legally unfinished in a flood zone. However after concreting the colverts I haven't had hardly any issues. Thx for watching.

      @@PetersonFarmstead did not sell you an unfinished house! It is not in a flood plain! The land by the creek is! The house isn't in a flood plain.! I had it checked before you Bought it! What part is unfinished! We lived in it for 13 years without any issues! You bought the place and trashed it! Stay off my place and keep your sick animals off our land ! Keep you dog quiet. This is a restricted subdivision and you all have broken plenty of restrictions. It only takes 1 person to complain. You need to fix the septic too.
