I am on a Keto/carnivore diet. 6 months ago after some shoulder a back pain, I went to ER. THEY did many blood tests. ER noticed a rise in white blood cell. A CAT scan showed a lesion in my Pancreas. An MRI SHOWED that I had Mucinous Cystadenoma 2.6x1.7 . The test showed a stable multilocular cystic lesion in the pancreatic tail. A follow up every 6 months for 3 years. I was on low carb Oct of 2023. Early 2024 I went on Keto, in April went on Carnivore. My Glucose level before this was 97 early 2023 it was as high as 120. Never checked A1c… after this way of eating my Glucose went down to 82 fasting A1c was 5.3. Trygs went down and HDL was UP. 😊 THIS WAS MY EXPERIENCE.
Forgot to state the Nov 2024 MRI showed I was stable.

HI...I didn't;t have a targeted treatment. The trial I went on was called Target Now by Caris (one of the first genomic studies) trying to show that pancreatic cancer patients could possibly benefit from getting molecular profiling. done....this was over 20 years ago. Everything needs to go thru research for insurance to consider payment.. Today we have a panel of markers to be looked at in consideration for pancreatic adenocarcinoma treatment...make sure your sister has genetic and genomic profiling done..Believe Always!!
May I know what targeted treatment did Kay Kays receive under Dr Von Hoff? My sister is diagnosed with this cancer, had done the wipper surgery but the subsequent chemo is not working

in a disease that is still a challenge to diagnose and treat its ok to be positive and be optimistic but this guy is too optimistic I think
Thanks for sharing your thoughts, @MrIanalarcon. You're right...pancreatic cancer is incredibly tough, and it's still a challenge to diagnose and treat effectively. It’s okay to be cautious when it comes to optimism, and we understand where you're coming from. But sometimes, a little extra hope can make a huge difference for patients and their loved ones. The progress being made in research and treatment, while slow, gives us reasons to stay hopeful. It’s a tough fight, but we’re not giving up, and we’re standing with those who need that optimism the most.

Since pancreatic cancer is found late a majority of the time due to vague, ignorable symptoms (until they're not vague anymore), why isn't aren't CMP and CA 19-9 bloodwork ALWAYS performed? Early detection is key, and these two tests would have the patient undergo imaging to rule out pancreatic cancer in many cases. It would save a TON of lives.
You raise an important point about early detection. While CA 19-9 and CMP tests can provide valuable information, they aren’t always reliable for detecting pancreatic cancer early because CA 19-9 levels can also rise due to other conditions, and not all pancreatic cancers produce elevated markers. That said, researchers are working hard to develop more accurate screening methods for earlier detection. You’re right, though-catching it earlier would save many lives, and we’re hopeful that advances in research will get us there. Every voice pushing for progress is crucial! 💜

Remember that he was a dancer too…. A great Zulu dancer
I was diagnosed with stage 3 pancreatic cancer in May 2020. I was told that I had six months to live without chemo and 1 year with chemo. Because the cancer was also in my lymph nodes I was not a candidate for the Whipple procedure. I had twelve rounds of Folfirinox chemotherapy over 6 months Luckily I didn't have any really bad side effects. It only made me really hungry. I finished chemo in November 2020. In March 2021 scans showed activity in the lymph nodes so I went on an immunotherapy trial from June 2021 to June 2022. Since I was responding well to the treatment, I was kept on it for another year post trials. I am not on any treatment at the moment. I have a very quick metabolism which helped I guess and kept side effects to the minimum with both chemo and immunotherapy. Luckily treatment here in Australia is free which is a huge relief and I can't fault the public hospitals. A huge shout out to Nepean and Blacktown Hospitals here in Sydney. I have a scan every three months. My pancreas are clear but there is a bit of activity happening with the lymph nodes at the moment. I have another PET scan in two months time. My blood tests are fine, and I feel fine so hopefully everything should be ok. I have my magic smoothie every morning which includes half a green banana, blue berries, almonds, a tablespoon each of hemp seeds, flax seeds, poppy seeds, cacao powder and any protein powder to sweeten the mixture. They are all powerful antioxidants. Also eat a handful of dried goji berries everyday as it keeps my liver functioning properly. Very important to rid the body of toxins from treatment. Putting this out there in the hope that it may help someone as it has worked for me so far.

I have gone from stage 4 pancreatic cancer with mets to the liver to no evidence of disease for 16 months and counting. I did it with intratumoral immunotherapy from the Williams Cancer Institute. I know others who have also had success with nanoknife from Robert Donoway of Atlas Oncology. There are ways out there beyond what is in the stand of care playbook and pure luck. My Mother had a Whipple procedure in 1989. Also had her spleen, duodenum, gall bladder and half her liver removed at the same time. Several years later she had part of her jejunum and ileum removed. She now only has 180cm of small intestine remaining. This is after having her colon and rectum, previously removed in 1959, when she was only 21 years old. She went on to have 5 children which was surprising for both her and my father as they were told it would be impossible to have any children. Mother is very resilient and her attitude nowadays is, well there’s nothing left to go wrong. The condition that led to all this being necessary is Familial Adenomatous Polyposis. My father is currently dealing with stage 4 lung cancer, COPD, emphysema, chronic bronchitis, Padgett's disease in his face, had brain cancer removed, and has something wrong with his vocal cords. He needs a doctor like this. My father's doctor just told my dad that there isn't much he can do anymore. Immunotherapy basically caused my father's skin to scab and bleed.
I’m so sorry to hear about your father’s struggles. It sounds like he’s been through so much. Don’t lose hope- Sending strength to you and your family. 💜

Hi Arpan, Thank you for reaching out. I'm sorry to hear about your father's diagnosis and the financial burden you're facing with his chemotherapy. While we are primarily based in the United States and some of our resources may not be directly applicable internationally, we encourage you to join our Pancreatic Cancer SOS - Support fOr Survivorship group (facebook.com/groups/pancreaticcancersos) on Facebook. This community offers a supportive environment where you can connect with other caregivers and patients, share experiences, and learn from each other. Regarding financial aid, we have compiled a list of resources that might be helpful. Although some of these may be U.S.-based, they could still provide useful information or direct you to other potential sources of support: seenamagowitzfoundation.org/financial-aid-assistance-pancreatic-cancer-and-other-patients/ Additionally, the Patient Advocate Foundation offers financial aid funds, and it might be worth checking if they have any programs that could assist internationally: patientadvocate.org/connect-with-services/financial-aid-funds/ I hope these resources can offer some assistance. Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any more questions or need further support. We are here to help you in any way we can. My sister passed away before she would have been 50 years old,6months after her diagnosis of pancreatic cancer. Hopefully a cure can be found soon from this devastating disease.
