Mindset, Solitude and The Cost of Winning - Live Podcast with Jurins Kengamu 63
This episode’s format, as you’ll notice, is a bit different to the usual podcast episodes and that’s because this was my first live podcast with an audience.
It was at Rob Palmer’s powerlifting seminar and the theme of the seminar was mindset and adversity. So in this episode I asked Jurins specific questions in relation to those topics, and on top of that Jurins talks about solitude, the cost of winning and setting boundaries in his life.
I hope you enjoy the episode, and remember, you make you.

    As someone who moved the other way, I would agree that New Zealand has stunning natural beauty, but so does the UK, just not the places that Kiwis tend to visit! Our cultures, or at least NZ European and British culture are very similar. We quote 95% similarity, the other 5% keeps life interesting. As for geography, UK size = 244,376 km2, NZ size = 268,000 km2, so very comparable. What differs is transport infrastructure making NZ feel bigger.

    • @liftingandlifepodcast
      @liftingandlifepodcast 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That's very true! Fortunately being based in Manchester has made it easy for us to spend time in the Lake District and Peak District - also did a trip the Isle of Mull in Scotland so have enjoyed the outdoors over here a lot now too. Such an interesting point about the difference in landmass (had to fact check that to be sure haha). Not having trains and motorways/freeways everywhere is definitely what makes it feel a lot bigger. Appreciate such a detailed comment!

    The whole peak week water manipulation section of the podcast is so vague. It's as though the guest doesn't want to give away his secrets? I wish there were more specific example protocols. E.g. water intake was x litres per day for the 1st 3 days of prep and then 0.75x litres 2 days out because of xyz and then just sips of water on show because of xyz. To say it's an art form more than a science and we don't really know the science anyway is so vague.

    • @liftingandlifepodcast
      @liftingandlifepodcast 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That’s fair! I think the point he’s getting at is there isn’t a cookie cutter way to approach the water manipulation of a peak week, it’s different for everyone. And it’s probably a red flag if a coach uses the same method for every athlete I agree that tangible examples are helpful though for sure

      @@liftingandlifepodcast Again, many thanks for the reply. • @liftingandlifepodcast
      @liftingandlifepodcast 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@A.P.Garland no worries at all! I appreciate your well thought out questions - glad you enjoyed the episode!

  • @A.P.Garland
    @A.P.Garland 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    What %age body fat is target for a natural bodybuilding show? Apologies if it was mentiined but I missed it. If we know target body fat %age, we know target weight. Then we therefore know target weight loss required. Then we know weight loss per day from now until show, so we know daily calorie deficit and thus daily calorie target during the cut.

    • @liftingandlifepodcast
      @liftingandlifepodcast 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Really good question! Typically the aim is below 5% at which stage it becomes very difficult to accurately measure. Bodyweight is one useful tool to use as a target but sometimes you might gain muscle during a prep so the number wouldn’t always be precisely correct

    Brilliant interview Cameron, Rob is top-level, and to get him on your show is amazing. Really engaging talk, and he knows a lot of stuff. Really interesting when you dived into rep ranges and what is actually happening when you get stronger - fibres vs cell size increase. I would love to know what he thinks of comparing 20 rep sets at a certain weight against 7 to 8 reps of the same weight but with slow negatives, e.g. 4 seconds - so time under tension.
