In addition... I want to empower myself not degrade myself by staying in the problem. Ie referring to myself as an alcoholic... Considering its a behavior not a state of being.
That is a good point. SMART Recovery has only been around since 1994. AA has been around since the 1930s and has been failing people for a lot longer, whereas SMART has a better track record. You make a valid point I had not thought of, an honest program could say something like, "Here is where you have improved drastically, here is where you are doing great, here is where you might want to focus" in AA, all you get is condemnation.
My goal for my videos is to show how you can get past your substance abuse without the cult. All my videos is information I’ve come across that’s been working for me for years now
I've been in AA . I've been in Smart recovery meetings. You are stuttering a lot and going off in different directions and very hard to understand your point. Your energy is scattered all over the place.
In my experience, 12 step meetings are big d*ck pissing contests where people sit around and compete with each other; telling stories to prove how much more f*cked up they were than the last person. It's also super culty - I was raised in one, so I can recognize one from miles away. I still tried for 6 months, because as far as I knew that was the only thing to treat addiction. I was so thankful when I found out about SMART. Science works.
Don’t get on with your life! Otherwise the rumor is you “relapsed” because you haven’t been seen in six meetings a day everyday to discuss how “grateful” you are.. Bettervget on disability and not work a job for your “sobriety” so you can attend said 6 meetings a day! 😂 It’s ridiculous!
Victim blaming. And you show your “recovery” by how much you self depreciate and blame every occurrence in your life on yourself. Even sexual abuse as a kid! What’s was your part? This pathology is supposed to be the only way for someone suffering from substance abuse to “get well! 😂
Yeah for me, moderation is something that I don't even try to think about any longer. For one thing, drinking, even a little, gives me a pleasant enough buzz, that quickly wears off. After that, I am stuck with two choices. Have another one to keep the buzz going and risk getting blitzed drunk with horrifying consequences, or deal with the slightly buzzing off kilter feelings. Why bother with it ? It is a whole lot better to just leave it alone altoghether. I tend to agree, I have said, "I am going to moderate with unhealthy food," and that too is a lie. Now that I have decided I want to get rid of excess weight, all the junk has just got to go.
Sorry you had that experience in the AA meetings. I've not had the same experience. Cross talk is not allowed in shares and others shares should not be referenced unless it was a speaker sharing their experience strength and hope. I disagree with your portrayal of the aa meetings but I'm not saying you didnt have that experience. Meetings are run independently and sorry you had that experience.

I didn’t understand a word you said. I do Smart Recovery, far better then AA.

The career AA attendee. Gotta love them

That’s probably the worst way to go about things

This is all very spot on. There is no "community" in AA. They do nothing but tear you down, and there is nothing about it that is uplifting at all.

You took the words out of my mouth. No hard feelings. Meetings are VERY different, depending on where you're at. Thanks for the feedback video.

Totally agree with you. Religion and mental health should not be used in the same sentence. Great video.
