How to make Bias Binding
มุมมอง 702 หลายเดือนก่อน
Bias binding is used for projects and quilts with a curved edge. It only takes 1/2 yard of fabric to make six yards of bias binding. This makes the going around curves and scallops on quilts easy without any puckers or pleats. This binding can also be used on regular quilts without the curves, but it would be easier to make a straight of the grain binding such as in my video for how to make bin...

How to Make Plastic Bag Holder and Dispensers!
Thank you for sharing this. I wondered if you uploaded the pattern? If not, certainly fine, but thought I would ask to save time. Going to make 2 boxes for my cousin's greeting table at her funeral. Going to put 2 different pictures of her, one different on each box and send home with her 2 siblings afterward.... Useful during the funeral and a remembrance later on. That is why I wanted to save time so ya know. Ty again and have a blessed day.😊
Thank you for your comment! I am not able to upload the pattern. Take a large piece of freezer paper and place the tissue box in the center. (Even though it is a square tissue box, there are different sizes) traces of around the box, then lay it flat, lining it up to that square mark , trace around it. Do it on all the sides. Add 1/2 inch to all those marks. You should be able to get your pattern. You can adjust the measurements to the ones I made that are in the video. I think what you are doing for your friend’s memorial will be very nice! I am sorry for your loss.
How is this microwave safe if you are not using 100 percent cotton thread?
I’m not sure! I have been using my serger thread and Omni thread which are polyester and nothing has ever happened. I have been making these for years! I don’t think that the microwave is as hot as an iron set on cotton. What will happen is after a lot of uses, the rice may become burnt, and then you will have to replace the old rice with new rice.
Great video! Easy step by step guide
Thank you, it is just in time for the fall season and Halloween!
Great video!!
Thank you These are great when you have neck pains and also this coming up winter season to keep your bed warm. Enjoy !!!
Great idea to use metal tape measure. I haven't got electrical tape at home, so I used plaster, worked fine too.
Hello! Thank you! Great tutorial. What iron do you use. Looks like exactly what I want.😊
Thank you for your comment! I use a Panasonic Cordless Iron. Here is a Amazon Link to the iron: amzn.to/3XfPIQi
Outside fabric: 15” x 4 1/2” Batting: 15” x 4 1/2” Inside fabric 19” x 4 1/2” 2-2” squares for the pull tabs For my reference
👍👍👍👍👍
Inside fabric is 19x 4 1/2
@@jaddascraftcottage6335 yes. I did not let me edit it. I just put that there for my own reference. Most of the time they never put the measurements in the information below the videos. It drives me crazy. So I put the measurements there in case I ever need to refill back to it, or send the video on to somebody else.
Great video, precise and to the point. Like the idea of sewing one side before inserting tape. I will try making 4” ones to attach to a sewing mat with Velcro for holding clips and half full bobbins.
Thank you for your comment! That is a great idea that you have for the use of these bags. Have fun making them!
A LITGLE SLOYER TO FAST
I love this. I have been looking for a baby hooded towel because I’m going to be a grandma in February for a little boy! I am going to give this a shot! I have plenty of terrycloth since I’ve been making baby bibs for my church friends, all these young mothers having babies, all year long!
Congratulations! It is so much fun being a grandmother! You can make these in just a few hours. Thank you for sharing and make a few hooded towels.
I’m wondering if this might be a little too large for a newborn baby. What dimensions would you recommend, in other words cutting this one down to size? Thanks
@auntdee9678 My daughter had a baby in January. She used this after his first bath, and she was able to wrap him up nicely to keep him warm. She is still using it after 6 months. I don’t think I would make it smaller.
@@jaddascraftcottage6335 thank you! I’m almost finished with my first one!! Getting ready to bind it.
@auntdee9678 That was fast. As I said, make a few of them. Thank you!
Thanks for the video! I’m glad that I watched it or otherwise I would have made too much work for myself 🤣 do you only use bias binding on something with a curve or do you use it on everything?
Thank you for your comment! You can use the bias binding for everything, but it is a lot of work to do compared to making a straight line binding. Where a straight binding you just have to follow the ruler and cut.
Why didn't you just put in the metal tape before sewing the one side so you could sew the seam all at once?
Thank you for your question! When I first made them, I did place the metal tape measure in, then tried sewing it. I was worried that my needle would hit the metal. So then I decided to sew down one side to make sure I didn’t hit the metal. When I inserted the tape measure , I could see if I needed to trim
Trim the metal.
I made this version with the grommet, seen many versions this one is the best no matter what type of opening the box has, mine was rectangular. I made it with thick felt for my car. Came out perfect
Thank you for that kind comment! I will try the rectangle type with the grommet. I’m glad you like it!😀😀
@@jaddascraftcottage6335 yes I need tissues in my car because I have allergies, and I use many, but I have no place to put a rectangular box, I live in Italy and the square box is hard to find and even costs more, why I have no clue, so I added a strap that I sewed in the seams and put it over the head rest of the passenger's side, I always drive alone even if I have a passenger it can always be shifted to the back of the seat. The opening is an oval slit, but the tissues pass through the grommet with no problem. Your tutorial is the best one out there and I have seen many.
Love the fabric print!
I do too! I thought it would be fun for the summer! Thank you!
Nice tutorial, thank you!
Thank you!! I hope you make many!!
Great explanation, so easy to folllw along
Thank you! Glad you liked it. You can make these for any occasion!
Thank you for such an easy to understand video.. I'll be able to try to make one following your tutorial ❤
Thank you for your kind comment. Because the glass bags are so narrow, it will take some maneuvering to turn it inside out. They are fun to make!
Too many steps let alone have the lids to come with. Cute but I’ll be using cd’s.
Thank you for your comment! I have the CD card holder also on my channel. Using the lids was also a great way of making a project out of recycled material.
Thanks for tissue box this is beautiful appreciated greatly will use as a school project in the Bahamas you amazing great
Thank you for your kind words. I hope it makes a great project for your students !!
Ive made two today. Love them, thank you for directions
Thank you for your comment! Once you make one, the rest are a breeze !!😀
👍😍👍
Thank you!!!
How can i add elastic on the bottom?
Thank you for your comment. If you want the elastic snug, I would measure the elastic about the width of the box, maybe add 1/2 inch to it. When you are doing the top stitch at the bottom, then you can tuck it between the two fabrics. I hope that works out for you.
@@jaddascraftcottage6335Thank you, I’ll try that
I didn’t do the elastic. Didn’t need any. Fits great
I don’t use the elastic neither! Glad it worked out for you!
@@susandeal9042 I didn't need any elastic it fit nice and snug
Best directions I’ve ever seen on TH-cam for anything, thank you, can’t wait to try it.
Thank you for your kind comments. Enjoy making these for every season.
Glad I watched this video. I like keeping the outer clean.
Thank you for your comment! I know, sometimes if multiple people use the neck warmer, you want it clean for them.
Definitely going to try making this it looks so delicious
Thank you for your comment! They are delicious and great to have on hand when you have company! Enjoy them!!
How do I figure out yardage to cover my seat cushions and backs
Thank you for your comment! The marine vinyl I got was from JoAnn Fabrics and it was 54" wide. It can be pricy but you want to get a little more than you need. You should measure your cushion the width, length and height of cushion. For example the cushion is 30"x44"x6"... the width would 30" plus 12"(2x the height) = 42". the length would be 44" plus 12"= 56". That is the size of the cushion, now you need to add at least 3" all around for the tacking. The size is now 48" x 62". For that cushion because the vinyl is 54" wide, that will cover the width of the cushion but the length will need at least 1 3/4 yards of fabric. Again, I would probably get a little more just to make sure it fits. Good luck with this project.
I love this! Never thought to do a removable cover!!!
Thank you for your comment! I used to have a retreat cottage that quilters would come to and they used the neck warmers all the time they were there. When they left, it was easy to remove the cover and wash them for my next guests.
❤great project! I love it & it’s so easy to make! Also, comfortable in your hand!
Thank you so much!! It’s a great way to use recycled materials and your scraps! My grandkids love them when playing card games! 😀
I have the rice mixture. As soon as I can get my flannel I will be making them.
Thank you for your comment! Just remember to heat these no more than 2 1/2 minutes at a time. You will find that the rice over time may burn a little and you will smell it. If this happens, open the rice pouch, empty it, wash the fabric and then refill the bag and you’re ready to go!
thank you for making it easy to sew these bags and for the metal tape tip
Thank you for your comment! I have noticed that there are different sizes in the metal measuring tape, so you can adjust the size to your project.
Great explanation! I’ll have to give this a try
Thank you!! This is a nice gift to give, especially for birthdays or an anniversary. Enjoy making them.
Really excellent instructions. I have a friend who is expecting and I made one of these for her. Turned out really cute. You got me, I'm a new sub. Thank you for sharing your expertise with us! ♥
Thank you for your kind words. I’m so glad that it turned out well. Keep on crafting!
Excellent tutorial! Thank you 🙏🏻
Thank you for your comment! They are fun to make and you can decorate for two seasons in one project! 😀
Enjoyed your method.
Thank you very much! It’s a great way of recycling a few items to make up a new craft!
Don't like thecraw edges but nice video
Yes I agree. You can also make them with French Seams which would enclose the seams so there are no raw edges.
Thanks for your comment. !
I make mine with no seams showing a bit more work but worth the effort but thank for your reply. Greeting from a wet south africa 🌻🌻🌻
Yes, I have made a few with the French seams and it was more challenging to turn it inside out. Thanks for your comments ❤️
Love video. What are measurements to cut for the sunglasses case?
I will try to get the measurements out real soon. Thank you for your inquiry and interest.
Really like these card holders. Great use of old cds
Thank you for your comment. Yes, these are a great use of old cd’s. You can make several of them, a give them as gifts, or sell them at craft fairs
Thank you for easy straightforward instructions.
You’re welcome. I hope you make several of them!
17x8.5” inside fabric 13x8.5” outside fabric 2-3” squares 2 7.5” tape measure ***my reference I ended up doing 10x14 for the outside and 10x18 for the inside. Then I do the measuring tape a little longer with2- 5" squares. This allows me to get an acrylic template created as a pattern so I can efficiently make them to sell.
Thanks for that information. I really appreciate it!!
I needed a pattern for these so badly. Thank you !! 😃
I am glad that I could help you out!! My 7 and 9 year old grandkids use them all the time. Thank you for your comment!
For anyone doing this a piece of advice replace your boards and cover them in fiberglass resin that's mixed with 5% acetone so it's easier to work and take longer to cure because Thompson water seal only last one year fiberglass resin last about 15 years also don't forget your spray adhesive to tack your foam to your boards so it doesn't move around when you're trying to put on the new vinyl.
Thank you for your advice. It was very useful!
TYFS I enjoyed watching your video I am excited to try making the card holder ❤from Wisconsin 😊
Thank you! It is a nice way to use recycled materials and also use up some of your scrap fabrics. These are great for young kids and older adults to hold their cards.
I like this idea better than the old cd's.
Thank you! It is a way to recycle things we have. I will also do the cd card holder at a later time. Enjoy your card playing!
These are great baby shower idea! They turned out so cute
Thank you! It was fun to make with my daughters, too!
Very nice instruction can’t wait to try. 😊
Thank you. I hope you do try making these.
Do you need to use a heavy duty tape measure?
Thank you for your question. I have used both of them. The 16 foot tape measure from Home Depot had a thinner tape and that is what I use first. Then I got a longer tape and it was a little wider. I think I prefer the thinner one for the small snap bags, but it you are making a much larger one, the thicker tape measure may work better.
I was just browsing through TH-cam and I came upon this tutorial. It was awesome and it is such a great idea. I have made many of these rice bags or bean bags over the years but I have never seen how to make the outside sleeve. Almost like magic. Lol
Thank you!! I had a crafting retreat in California, and it was easy to clean the covers for my guests. Also, when the rice or beans start to burn and they are hard to use, I remove the old rice, wash the inside cover and the outside covers then replace the rice. I appreciate your comment!
thanks for the info
You are welcome! Hopefully you can reupholster your seats
Such a cute idea!
Thank you, it’s cute and also useful.
Fantastic video as usual. Thank you for sharing this.
