    I don't think this is a valuable comparison. The smoothest nib is the one that is tuned to your liking. I like my nibs much smoother than you do. I have tuned all my pens to my preference. It's too easy to learn. This is nothing that a little work with lapping sheets won't take care of. These are all high quality nibs to begin with.

      Most people cannot do this on their own. We look forward to absolutely best quality when we buy pens from these brand. They shd be perfect out of the box. So my comparison makes a lot of sense for most people who buy these pens. They shd never feel the need to get them tuned and the quality shd be top notch out of the box

      @@Soon2berich I respectfully disagree with you. Anyone that has the dexterity to write as well as most do can look through a loupe and figure this out. I did, and so can everyone else. I agree that all nibs should be perfect, but we should also have universal health care in this country and well, world peace. We can stamp our feet about these things but it won't change them today. The reality of manufacturing means that most nibs are substandard, especially at the lower end of the spectrum. People should stop expecting this and learn a few techniques that are as simple as learning how to properly clean a pen.

      @@lennyeiger4097 playing with nibs is not everyone can think of doing with such costly pens. Brand need to provide an almost perfect quality like Rolls Royce and Rolex. I love collecting and writing with these pens. I spend arnd 30% of my usable income on them. I can tell you that I cannot gather enough courage to play with any of these nibs. If I were earning 10x, I would have played with the nibs all day long.

      @@Soon2berich Everything is hard when you don't know how. The tines need to be aligned vertically, and this only needs a good loupe and the use of ones fingers. It is a very small adjustment and one uses one's fingers. It's easy, and you can be very gentle. The lapping sheets come is 16,000 grit and it is almost impossible to hurt a nib, the finer one is 60,000 grit. Using that, you can't hurt a nib. I also have very expensive pens. Every one of them writes smooth. I like things very smooth, most people like a little feedback, they can't please everyone, so they leave a little more than I like. Takes me about 3 minutes to get it right with a good nib....

    Correction: Simply put, there absolutely is no "smoothest fountain pen". If you had a deeper knowledge of fountain pens you would know this. In any given manufacturer's lineup there will be examples of the same exact model of that pen that write worlds apart. That is a product of the nib manufacturing and finishing process-- and that's it-- absolutely zero to do with the pen itself.

    Oh my God I had a blizzard visconti pen and when it came the nib would not write on the upstroke. I sent it back and they sent me a new one and the second one also wouldn't write properly. I then sent it to a nibmeister and he did work on it and then it finally wrote the way it should have. About 6 months later it began leaking and it also was stained by some ink. I became so disgusted and outraged that I sent it back to the company and they said they had to send it to Italy. 6 weeks past that I still didn't have the pen back so I told them that I would sue them or they could issue me a full refund and that I would never buy a visconti pen ever again. Yes the idea that it's made from lava is very cool but their nibs suck and the pen was a piece of garbage. I have all of the other pens that you have in this video and I would say for me the smoothest pen is the pilot.

    In terms of line widths a medium Japanese is about the same width as a fine in a Peliikan especially. Would be curious to see results with line widths taken into account. For me I totally agree that Pelikan medium is like writing with a broad nib.....just an observation. Also the 21k huge nib in King of Pen is bouncy and FEELS a bit more flexible than one would expect. Smoothness is a feeling but the flexibility of the huge 21k nib in medium and definitely in broad could smooth things out a bit despite the feedback which of course I agree is the main concern.

    • @Soon2berich
      @Soon2berich 23 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Pelikan M1000 18k Medium writes like a broad and the nib is extremely bouncy. Where as Pelikan M800 18k Medium is sleek like MB or Pilot Medium and its quite a hard nib. Sailor KOP 21K is soft and not just bouncy. The nib gets deshaped quite too often even with minimal pressure. I find KOP and Pilot Custom Urushi medium nibs to be almost as wide as MB and Pelikan mediums. The difference is negligible.

    The thing with soft nibs is, that they are not flexible. When you write with normal pressure, soft nibs give you the feeling of a soft car suspension while gliding over the paper. While I am 100% committed to montblanc and I have a nice little collection of montblanc, My favorite is the heritage line, something about the small size but post the cap and it’s a perfect fit in hand. I do know that mb also tunes the nib so that it gives the user a specific feedback while writing whereas other brands do not do that. The beautiful part of this hobby is that there are so many options, pens; light ones, heavy ones, monochrome, or bright colorful ones, and that’s just the pen then there’s the nib, so we just need to sample till we find what’s right for us and happy writing

    Hello there, interesting take on your collection and how you rate them personally. i do believe at the end of the day the best fountain pen would be the one that you would use the most and from your closing statement that wounded being the M800. Interesting take on the custom urushi though where the smoothness and feedback is clearly dependent upon how much pressure you apply especially since the custom urushi is the largest and "soft and bouncy" among your entire collection. The wetness is also dependent upon your nib variation which i am not sure if you mentioned if it was a FM, M or B?

    • @Soon2berich
      @Soon2berich 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Most of these pens have medium sized nibs except for Visconti and I usually write with very little to medium pressure. Smoothness is not so much dependent on the pressure as on nib size and craftsmanship. I prefer to use Visconti most often due to line height in my notebook. As Visconti HomoSapiens is EF, its easier to write in the tighter lines. For larger notebooks, I prefer M800. I also love to write with MB Rouge ET Noir but as it is made of sterling silver, it darkens the ink color. I used to write a lot with Sailor KOP but even with light pressure, its tines used to tilt after a few pages. So now I dont write with it much.

Unfortunately the best nib quality can be found only in the limited edition of Montblanc . Yes. Its just a factor in the overall experience. Thats why in my short reviews I compare a few more factors such as wetness, softness, grip size, feedback and more. In lengthy reviews I also consider the weight of the pen, how well the pen can be gripped and more

      I also like my Sailor KOP a lot and its way better than MB149. But I find MB Brothers Grimm to be slightly better than Sailor KOP. One of the major reasons for that will be that the nib feels quite sturdy compared to KOP nib which is very soft and bends over time. I had to straighten it a few times already.

    You know why it is expensive? Because it's made out of good materials (instead of a lot of nail cutter), it's to because it as being properly engeenered (never heard anybody else complaining about the opening) and because it's made in Switzerland, so his production is respecting high qualitie standard, high worker security standard, high worker remuneration standard and high environnementale standard, even more because victorinox is highly upon swiss law standard who are already highly upon world's laws standards. And if you lose it, it's only your fault.

      Well functionality wise, it cant cut my toe nails because of the small size. Sharpness wise its just okay. I have used better quality nail cutter from Revlon which costed me much less. So for the price, its absolutely not worth it.

      @@Soon2berich It is a voyage nail cutter. Revlon isn't a watch maker, even less a swiss watch maker and they aren't working with metal for more than 140 years, when I'm talking of quality, I'm talking of built quality. I already manipulate both, Revlon's one isn't even close of the built quality of the victorinox. And Revlon is a cosmetic compagnie and they aren't transparent about their way of making their nail cutter, so ethics and ecologie are from far away for victorinox.

No disrespect but I don't think you're very familiar with Victorinox SKA quality or products. I got this same clipper in the "Nail Clip 580" on sale for $26 in Amazon. It comes with these clippers, a nail file/flathead screw driver, tweezers , toothpick, scissors, knife blade and most importantly, a key ring so you can attach it to keys and won't lose it. I don't always remember to clip/file/clean my nails so this has been a lifesaver for me ahead of important or impromptu meetings. It is worth every penny I paid for it.

    I guarantee Jacob Grimm was not alive from 1838 until 1971! lol. The engravings on the cap are Jacob Grimm's signature and those years are the years over which the Deutsches Wörterbuch (a Germany dictionary which was started by the Grimm brothers) was completed. Gottinger 7 is a reference to 7 professors, which included the Brothers Grimm, who opposed King Augustus. The piston says Kinder und Hausmarchen, which was what Grimm's Fairy Tales were called in German, and the year 1812, which is when the first volume was first published. On the cap it says Es war einmal, which is the German version of "once upon a time..."
