Performers perform/play/march. Judges judge. Completely different skill sets. Some of my band mates don’t even know what’s in the score sheets. And they shouldn’t have to.

@@kishibe__rohan Just because someone DOES something doesn't make them competent at it - DCI execs mismanage an entire activity into a Finals that cannot sell 15,000 tickets when we sold 40,000 in the 1970-1980 years. DCI judges cas in point. Jim Unrath was a Chief horn judge and his totality of expertise was....He was a college radio station DJ of classical and romantic period music. Total idiot, BUT he was gay, and that had to count for something - gay Wayne.

Love this comments a lot. Blue devils always going forward even with their 2024 repertoire, it’s so genius. But the hater will always say they did a repetition. They didn’t see winner this year repeat their 2016 and 2018. But what can we say, hater will always be the hater. They’re just being so lucky that the dci doesn’t need to be audited, if they so! Waw! Can’t imagine what happens next! God bless us as the connoisseur of drum corps.

For me, I just often find that I don't enjoy their shows. I often want to enjoy their shows, but there is just way too often something that completely takes me out of it. A good example is the horrible k-pop section of Ink. I love fairy tales and the rest of that show was really great, but the immersion was gone if that makes sense.

No, once finals hits, the score is essentially reset for every year.

It's a hard thing to talk about because realistically comparing scores between different seasons means very little but not nothing. Judges know the realm of where a corp deserves to be scored but it can't be exact. Since corps are scored as they perform, one corp might get a high score but then the next corp is even better. The judge cannot go back and change the previous score so they must give the second corp an even higher score. Because of this system the scores are really just relative to the performance quality of the other groups that same year.
