Lots of Red Pants music, cassettes, art making, tape looping and sometimes talking.
Red Pants - Silhouette
Our first album, Distortion and Snow was released five years ago today. And to celebrate, here's a music video! This was the only song that was recorded and not included on the album. It was originally released on a compilation put out by Z-tapes. I have remixed it for this video as I was never really happy with the mix that was on that comp. Most of the footage is pulled from vlogs that I made around that time.

A walkthrough of my basement studio where I make art and music. Heads up, around 5:30 my camera fell and it must have done something to my mic because the audio is all camera audio for the rest of the video. My apologies! My First Market.
มุมมอง 4944 หลายเดือนก่อน
All right, I did it! I left the house and took my art out into the public and even sold some. It was a good day. I did so much work leading up to it that there wasn't much left to do the last few days. So, I broke out my Yamaha keyboard and did some writing. I also cracked open my sketchbook for the first time since March! And then there's a couple other things including some plans to restructu...

Another Tascam 424 session. I'm making a little EP to include with a zine and I wanted to add this song to it. Might as well document the process! And then since the song is called In the Morning, I shot some footage on my morning walk and turned it into a music video at the end. Thanks for watching! @@paddyconn3344 two of my favorites! Thanks!
Cool machines, owned one myself. It's always interesting to see these utilized in conjunction with DAW's. Not something I have any experience with...I used them exclusively as stand-alones. Enjoyed the vid 👍
@@20YearsofTascam-rc1he thanks so much for watching! I love using the 424 as a starting point.
Thanks so much for the video! I'm actually looking at the same model, with tracks 4 and 8 overwriting each other. I wonder if it's the same one or if it's just a common issue? Just curious if you ever found a solution to the problem, or if I've come into possession of your machine 😂
@@regard321 🤣 No, it’s not my machine! I still haven’t figured it out though either. I usually just stop at 7 tracks and call it a day.
Love your sketches and now I’m inspired to get a tascam tattoo haha!😊
@@FloChai a real Tascam tattoo would be so cool!
I just bought 5 cassette recorders , had to have a Yamaha MT8X . I think c60 are best for 8 tracks because when it's slit the edges are cut cleaner because it's thicker.
@@lawrencerasmus great point! I was just thinking about pulling my 8 track out the other day! I’ll have to see if I have any 60 minute tapes laying around.
Dude this is awesome I loved your song at the end really reminds me of duster
@@Milesthehumanman thanks so much Miles! I do love me some Duster!!
Hey Jason, I'm loving your peaceful and patient approch to your projects. Beautiful job. Paul.
@@TheHomeRecordingChannel thank you Paul!
Hi Jason, that's what I call an honest four track cassette recording, warm and beautiful. Happy recording. Paul.
@@TheHomeRecordingChannel thanks so much for the kind words Paul!!

@@paserpase2870 cool! Will do, thanks!
Happy last birthday! It turned out to be a good clip, suitable for music.
@@teryaj thanks so much!!
Some other people have mentioned Flips and Dinosaur Jr, which I can certainly see, but to me this conjures up Sparklehorse more than anything else. Great video and great song!
@@samueljenkins3636 that’s some high praise in my book. Thank you so much!
@@jasonelambeth You are welcome! Apologies for the late response.
Love this! I’m a huge fan of Jason Lytle/Grandaddy (definitely in my top three favs). Thanks for sharing your art!

Love this! Thanks for sharing - I’ve been getting back into my 414 mkII and it is super fun.
@@LindseyKyle thanks so much! It’s such a fun little machine!
Love the sound of your music. I put this one on while paying bills. You could have stretched the song out another 10 minutes, and it would have been perfect😅. I think that someday I will hear one of your songs in a sleeper cult classic movie, and you are going to blow up. Keep it up👍🤩
@@hdubsart1462 omg Holly, best comment ever! It would be so cool to get used in a movie like that.
Oh shiz, this honestly sounds so fucking sick. I really adore the backwards guitar and your voice is amazing. Definitely inspired me at 2 in the morning !

Awesome drawing! I love the old photos too.

awesome!
Thanks!
Hi Jason, great video! Can I ask which printer and paper you use for your zines, please?
I’ve got the Epson ecotank 3830. Once I figured out how to print directly from Photoshop, I fell in love with it. For my bigger zines I use a 65lb card stock for the cover. And for the insides and other zines I use a 32lb copier paper that is non glossy.
@@jasonelambeth Thank you!
That's a lovely set up you've got there man! I'm a sucker for a good basement and loft.
Thank you! Me tooo! 🤣
Awesome set up and cool space, very inspiring. we pretty much have the same thing going. Thank goodness for unused basements and garages!
Thanks gakhed!! Heck yeah, everyone deserves a good basement retreat.
I love your setup! I just set up a little table by my keyboard while I was working on a trumpet solo I’m composing and I’ve been working there instead of my desk. It kind of made me want to redo my office setup. I wish I had as much space as you! also, if you ever have any shirts with the tape cat on your store, I hope I can scoop one up!
I really lucked out with the amount of space I have. I wasn’t even making stuff when we bought the house so the basement was a real afterthought. But so happy I have it now! Feel free to email me about a shirt and we can figure something out if you want!
Thanks for the tour. I ended up moving all of my music to a tablet. I got tired of lugging around 5 different binders for 5 different styles of music that I would do with people.
Ohhh that’s a good idea! I usually just bring what I know we’ll be working on. Like right now, it’s a collection of ten new songs, so I can make notes on the paper as we’re writing and stuff.
NEW SHOP! 🎉🎉 www.jasonelambeth.com/shop
Looks cool!
Thanks man!
That looks adorable. Genuine question, how long does that type of material usually stay? Can it be washed in a machine or does the ink fade fast?
I’m still pretty new to it. I used a specific ink by Speedball for printing on fabric. I did some printing back at the beginning of the year on t-shirts and they are still looking great. Machine wash and dry! I have heard from other print makers that they do fade a little over time.
your art is so lovely! ❤
Thank you so much!! I appreciate it!
I think he would make a lovely art print. I love cats but I've never seen one I want on my wall as much as this one. He has black cat essence.

My husband and I had a tent at a weekly outdoor market one summer. It was a pretty big market, there were different bands that would play there each week. We made hypertufa planters(small cement planters)with mini succulent arrangements. Some days we were busy and it was fun and exciting, but some days we wouldn't talk to a single person for hours. It is so much more enjoyable if you have a friend with to talk you through the lulls. We even brought our kids with sometimes--they liked helping with the business and taking breaks to walk around the market and buy monkey bread and smoothies from the bread guy. That year, we broke even financially on the business, but we have some great memories together. I am glad you had a positive experience😊🎉
That sounds like a pretty good time! I had plenty of people around that I knew that kept it fun. Also it was only four hours which was really nice. I don’t know how people do those all day events. That sounds so exhausting!!
Love this jason!! I would love to learn how to fold the zones the way you do. Also, beautiful collaging 😊
It’s super easy! I actually have a really old video where I do it in real time. I don’t explain it, but it’s easy to follow along. Here you go: th-cam.com/video/2z8bUbbpluk/w-d-xo.htmlsi=zAhiU71FNckq11QA
