Solo camping trip to do some deeper exploration in Toiyabe National Forest. The epic winter in northern CA made this trip a little trickier than expected but having a plan "B" and plan "C" helped. Great episode! I might get more into Gaia more, right now I am mainly using lots of different apps between Google Earth, Ridewithgps(this is what I am usually looking at on my bike), and onX off-road but great tutorial and want to get into Gaia more now! Have you done that route up to Blue Lakes? I camped at the upper Blue Lake over the summer and is one of my favorite camp sites ever! We were going to go out above blue lakes to 88 on the dirt, but when we went for a night hike, up by the pct, when we settled in at Blue Lakes, that road was crazy rocky. Even walking it was a b#@$ with all the different size rocks from boulders to pebbles and everything in between, so I have been weary of taking that trail from 4 to Blue Lakes. Not sure if you have an episode on that yet but looking right now!

  • @OneTakeSunday
    @OneTakeSunday ปีที่แล้ว

    Straight up. One time I stopped at the Camp Nine Bridge, and this homeless dude made a b - line right for me, luckily for him, he stopped when I put my hand up and signaled him to slow his roll towards me. I had my 9mm, which I just used for target practice at the abandon rock quarry on c9, in my side case on my adventure bike, but it would have been hard to get there fast. Not that I couldn't have kicked his ass, I am not the biggest guy by any means, but I teach martial arts, and who wants to get scraped up in the backcountry if it can be avoided. Very rarely does either person walk away without some damage in a fight. I moved my 9mm to my tank bag after that. Gun stayed loaded too. Really changed that ride too, because usually any interaction I have with humans while adventure riding is extremely positive.

    • @OFFTHEBEATENPATH1977
      @OFFTHEBEATENPATH1977 ปีที่แล้ว

      That does not surprise me one bit. I was actually doing some exploring and shooting around the old Quarry at C9 today. Im trying to find a place to get targets out to 1000 yards.

      @@OFFTHEBEATENPATH1977 Such a great place to shoot. 1000 yds thats some serious distance; rifle?. Are you able to get your truck down in the quarry? I can get my bike in through a tiny rock opening near the top of the quarry, but it's a little sketch sneaking in that way,

    Looks like that's Camp 9 Rd, to Forest rt 3N03, to the Rose Creek Bridge? That was my first off road route (to Italian Bar) on my old 1200gs. Great road for sure. You been up to Mt. Knight in any of your episodes?

      @OFFTHEBEATENPATH1977 ปีที่แล้ว

      You clearly know the area well!! Nice work!! I have not been all the way up to Mount Knight, its on the short list for sure. I have been laying out routes along "Hell's Half Acre". I would like to go the entire stretch between hwy 4 and hwy 108. So much to explore!! I have gotton a bit motr cautios with where i take the "Dingo" so now i prefer to scoute the routes first them make a "trip out of it" once i know i can get the DIngo in and out.

      @OneTakeSunday ปีที่แล้ว

      @@OFFTHEBEATENPATH1977 Nice! How are you planning to get to Hell's Half Acre? I hear that on hwy 4 to 108!!! SO much awesomeness back there. My last trip I tried to go to Mt. Knight, and eventually up to Beardsley Lake or Lyons Reservoir, but I got caught at about a mile in on Forest rt 4N04. I think I would have been fine if I was riding with others, but I got caught on a steep hill and took me an hour to lift up my 600lb 1250gs adventure bike (long story, usually its not that big of deal to lift), so tucked my tail in and turned around. With my 1250gs, and your dingo, it sounds like we could be looking for similar type dirt roads. If you haven't done Italian Bar rd, highly reccomaend it. My favorite road to ride out there as of now!

      @OFFTHEBEATENPATH1977 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@OneTakeSunday the route i have laid out now goes from Beardsley to Boards crossing near Arnold. The route im looking at is actually along 5N02 for most of it. That will be a trip for next summer for sure. When you do Italian Bar do you take that all the way up to Rose Creak? Have you gone towards Elliots Cabin?

    • @OneTakeSunday
      @OneTakeSunday ปีที่แล้ว

      @@OFFTHEBEATENPATH1977I have been eying 5N02 too up to Skull Creek Ranger Station and Beardsley as well! My favorite way to get to Italian Bar/Italian Bar road is by going the same way you came into the Rose Creek Bridge and then basically going over the hill. It does get a tad rocky there, but nothing that's too crazy. Ive also have entered, and exited Italian Bar Rd on the Columbia side, and last time I did Italian Bar, I headed in the Columbia side, up to Jupiter Rd, back to Italian Bar rd, and basically out to 108 to before Mi-Wuk Village. Andy's Mountain Restaurant at Mi-Wuk is effin incredible too. I really want to try 4N04 again, but its was just a little too much to do on my big bike by myself; hoping to get out there with my motorcycle camping group though.
