I am absolutely facinated by the similarites between Inupiatun and Inuktitut. We say pisuk for walk, pisuktuq he/she it is walking etc. We also say niri for eat also nirijutit for you are eating nirijunga I am eating ect. I would love to visit Alaska one of these days and have a conversation, just to see how intelligeble the two language are to one another. Great work keeping Inupiatun alive!

This is a great tribute. My mom's uncle was also named Nanauq, there are many in my family with the name Nanauq. That is so cool!

Quite amazing how similar Inupiaq and Inuktut are. 1. Atausiq 2. Marruuk 3. Pingasut 4. Sitamat 5. Tallimat 6. Arviniliit 7. Marruungit arviniliit 8. Pingasunit arviniliit 9. Qulingiluaqtuq 10. Qulit. Very cool! I wonder why 6, 7 and 8 are so different between our dialects?

The Natsilinngmiut of Nunavut pronounce it havak and havaktuq, havaqtunga, in my dialect it is sana, sanajuq, sanajunga. Very cool.

This was so beautiful. The meaning behind the dance and the joy that must be felt from the return of the sun after such a long absence. It must feel like a family member or best friend returning after being away for many months.

Thankyou!!! I needed this! I was in Kotzebue for three months and my mother who works in a nursing home in Lancaster requested I do a "presentation" incorporating exercise (Range of Motion). This is beyond perfect! And its awesome and symbolic. Love the culture! Thanks for sharing <3

Thank you so much for sharing this story and for taking the time to write us. We are a very small department and to know that our videos are reaching out beyond our College is so wonderful and encouraging. Your message made a big impact over here. We would love to hear about your presentation! Big hugs to you and your mom <3

@@ilisagvikcollegemediachann4757 Will do! And seriously, if you all created a "range of motion" dance for dementia patients??? It could be BIG!! And not sure if you are religiously affiliated but tieing it in with Maniilaq's story and legend? Awesome!!! I will post a video hopefully how it went. I've been out of "activity world" for 10-13 years so I will be winging it 100%! Seriously consider forming a program for Long term care. The "range of motion" exercises??? It can be VERY difficult for residents to do, many activity directors feel silly doing so and sometimes residents will not interact well. But, learning to dance like this??? Please research and sell the program! Activity directors will host you to teach them and Physical/Occupational therapists will love you! Getting elders to exercise without them knowing they are excising and just having fun??? Please, consider this!!! If you form this program? My mom would love to connect! And, if I make it up to Alaska after New Mexico? I'd love to be apart if you need another hand- maybe I could intern for you all since I bought a Activity Director guide but, have yet to fully do the work. So, if you are looking for interns to connect Eskimo dancing with a dementia related program?? PLEASE! Get in contact with me!!! I should be out of New Mexico by August!

pss- it went well! Only had a chance to explain about the dancing and history of how motion dance was created (17 cultures, 17 languages- share stories? Act it out through motion dance!) Tell about Maniilaq's story! Show pictures of subsistence living and ulu/ivory etc and the blanket toss at the end. That was a full 30 minute-45 minute program! Thanks again for shining your light in PA! Love your culture!!
