Whisper
She whispered to the sky, hoping someone would hear
In an Uber, back to her apartment, all the streets were clear
She left the party early, didn't want to be seen
While she was feeling green
Her dress was a midi and off her shoulder
No one noticed she didn’t have a a pair of hands to hold her
Everyone around her had someone to hold
Except her, as if life put her on hold
Girls’ heads on their lovers' shoulders dancing to Sinatra
Under the dim spotlights, too warm to be caught by cameras
She turned her eyes to the host and excused herself for having to go
Stood by the street with tears rolling down begging her body to go
Picked up from the upper east side
All the way down to Kips Bay, it wasn't a long ride
All the lights turning green at the same time
As if they knew she wasn’t having a good time
Her head was leaning on the back passenger seat's window
Her eyes made her like she didn't know
Whether she drove along 3rd avenue before
Her eyes can’t recognize the usual stores.
She always seen herself as a girl of class
Always showing up when invited, she wouldn't pass
Didn’t have a date, but thought it would be the same
The excuse of not having someone to go with is a bit lame
She stepped out of the car under the drops of rain
Stood there while they started to heal her pain
That bit of fresh air and the smell of the rain
Slowly healing her heart from a tough-to-clean stain
Took one last deep breath before heading inside
Knowing that at least she tried
She laid on her bed in her small room
Cornered between her long windows looking at an almost full moon
Trying to appear between the fastly moving clouds
Like trying to see a singer from the back of the crowd
58 days since she slammed that door
Leaving who she thought was her future and even more
58 days since she first broke clean from
Thinking love lasts with those we meet in our teens
Grew up in a small town and didn't know
All the places she can shine in and glow
The places her face wouldn't get recognized at all
People not knowing where she lives, is her place big or small
You see, it's not like she didn't like knowing everyone in town
It's not like she didn't like talking to everyone around
She just always wanted more
She says "I'll never worry about the time I've wasted before"
Now she's in this big town with shiny lights
People keeping the city alive every night
She looked down at 3rd avenue watching the passing cars
Her small hometown felt like earth when NYC is all the shiny stars
She turned her head back up, the sky cleared
Facing the world tonight alone, she initially feared
Whispered to the sky, hoping someone would listen
Before realizing that life might not worth be missing
