Genius, where was this idea when i had chickens lol oh well . Very cool
@@amandawilliams2266 no kidding! Thanks for watching!
How long have you had chickens? I’m thinking of converting my shed into a coop this year and attaching a run to the back of it.
We just got chickens this past spring because our daughters have always wanted animals to show in our 4H fair, and these were the perfect animal to start with in my opinion. Didn’t wanna be messing with goats, pigs, or any other big mammal just yet. We have really enjoyed having them. They are more like pets at this point. We have 4 chickens and 2 ducks. Actually got rid of our TV subscription because we can just sit outside and watch them all afternoon. They crack me up. Plus we get eggs everyday!
@ sounds awesome man. I just started my rabbitry this summer, so chickens next year and if I feel confident enough I’ll move on to one of those bigger mammals you were talking about 😃
@ best of luck to you! I am really having so much fun learning about all of this stuff and working toward self sustainability hopefully.
Put some petroleum jelly around the inside of cap & u won't have that problem.

Pretty cool that your that excited
@@gingercholo Haha…thank you. I have been working on this darn thing for a while now. It has blown over once. Had to pick it back up with the tractor. I got the idea for the coop from another person on TH-cam. The duck coop and access door is an original idea. So, yes I was very excited to have gotten that done. Thanks for the comment. @@FuggidupFarms24i think hes just mad that you didnt mix the concrete first
I thought the same thing when I was told to just let it draw moisture from the ground. Stepdad who farms for a living and has set plenty of these told me it’s how he does them so I took his advice. After watching the video again I probably could have buried them a little deeper too…oh well. Learning as I go. Thanks for the response.
You need a large removable stake latch on the ducks door so a larger predator can't pry it open.
@@commoncents9732 that is definitely a good call. This coop won’t be active until the spring. By that time hopefully I will have the enclosed run surrounding it as well. Probabaly still wouldn’t be a bad idea as another level of security for them. Thanks for the comment. Make sure to like, share, subscribe, and check out the rest of the videos. Pretty fun times around here. Have a great day!
@@commoncents9732 I did throw a cinder block against the door for now…haha
@@FuggidupFarms24 If you have the land (which it appears you do) do not make your coop/run stationary. Put wheels on the bottom of it and make it so its movable around your land, trust me. The chickens need fresh vegetation, insects, etc to be healthy/produce the best eggs even if you give them premium egglayer feed. Within 1 week of being in a single spot they will dig out all the vegetation down to the dirt. If they remain on that dirt long enough it can lead to infections and sores on their feet and a lot more. You want a coop/run area that you can move every few days while maintaining a safe area for the chickens to explore/eat. I have had chickens since 2007, tried everything under the sun and movable coops are the only way to go for more than 5 chickens. That is just my advice from experience but if this plan you have goes south or starts having issues consider changing your methods. Chickens are amazing lawnmowers if used properly and they can eradicate problematic insects like ticks, grubs, mosquitos and more. Think about it but it appears you have the land to make a movable coop/run.
@ yes, I have heard a lot about mobile coops. The run will just be a place they can go to early in the morning if i don’t get out there to open the coop in time. The enclosed run will ideally be equipped with an automatic door that will let them out of the run and allow them to free range until they are ready to roost in the evening. This is in an ideal world…haha. I do have the land technically, but I am hoping to use the rest of the property as agricultural. Once we get goats I’d like to be able to grow my own alfalfa for them and still be able to put out a decent garden to possibly put out a little produce stand and feed us. These are all big ideas at the moment, but we are always working to try and make it happen. Thanks for the advice though. I really do appreciate any help I can get.
TH-cam is so soft i posted a cid today of a bow that got sent to me by a sponsor i didn’t even shoot it and my video got taken down
