I test drove a 2024 model last week. To be honest even though it was the 2 litre model I thought it was really underpowered. Very expensive in the UK. I didn’t bother with it. Not as good as the mk2. Why hasn’t it got a glove box ? I was very disappointed
I agree. I used to own a '93 RX7. During one of the times that it was in the shop, a friend let me use his '91 Miata. To this day, that little Miata was one of the most enjoyable cars I've driven. There's just something about being able to push a car to its limits, and not be too worried about wrapping yourself around a tree. That being said...I still love powa😁. I currently have a '22 Supra 3.0 Premium that's loads of fun. But yeah...I can definitely get myself in trouble with it, if I'm not careful.
Very nice looking car. And surprisingly nice sounding too.
Cheers mate, the straight pipe exhaust is a very cost effective system I found the receipts for the work done on it and it only cost them $250AUD which is way cheaper than a proper exhaust system :)
Where you buy the 6ul???
Came with the car, I got it second hand with 50000km on the clock for 34000AUD
Looks nice
Nice car
This color is far superior to the soul red. The red looks ok initially however fading would concern me. The mods are great
At 10:23. That infotainment screen looks like it's from the toy aisle at Walmart. It's hideous. Mazda keeps using the same crap. They need to look at the Audi TT for inspiration and integrate the infotainment screen in the dash.
You’re not wrong there. I think the gloss plastic makes it look a bit shit which thankfully they haven’t used on the centre console as it’s a scratch magnet. The resolution is at least fairly decent. The 2024 models have updated to the newer mazda infotainment systems which look quite slick.
@@JacksDailyDrives Yeah, I saw the new infotainment screen too. Still looks awful to me.
I live in Japan where the speed limit is around 80km/h. I totally agree to your opinion which I often hear people saying Lancer Evolution and RX-7 is bit boring since they soon hit the speed limit and cannot fully enjoy the car itself. That is why I will someday purchase my MX-5 or S660 as a dream car!
What about a wrap in green instead of an expensive paint job?
Here in Australia I got a few quotes for one and they’re about 5-6k m, seems super steep when I only spent 34k on the car 🤣
Nice car and insights. You mentioned the Merritt parkway in CT, did you go to med school in New Haven? A small world I live in the NY Metro burbs, have been on that road several times visiting the wife's family. That road seems to be a magnet for higher end vehicles traveling at high speeds. Other area roads like the Palisades Interstate Parkway and the NYS Thruway also a lot of fast drivers, however more of a police presence.
I eventually came back to Australia for medical school in 2010. Dad had a house in Westport CT and my girlfriend at the time went to Columbia University in NYC with parents in Northampton MA so we did a fair bit of driving around there. It seemed to me the speed limit in the US was more a suggestion than a hard rule 😂 here in Australia the police are everywhere and it’s mainly used as a revenue raising tactic for government with stupidly high fines in the thousands of dollars.
Agreed the RF is the way to go, looks very Lotus-like.
Sounds gr8 . Can you please tell me the exhaust on it ? Thanks mate.
It’s just been straight piped and had a section of pipe put in to replace the end muffler. Cheap to do and sounds great. Think the previous owner spent about $250 doing it
Such a beautiful bike. Your brother has exceptional taste 👌
“These’s a nice little light strip . . . red LEDs that . . . gives it a nice little Porsche look.” You can’t make this stuff up!
Dream car of mine. Hoping to get my RF in 2025. Awesome video and incredible looking Miata by the way.
One female owner. Patronising much?
Women are way less likely to modify their cars than guys, they’re also likely to be more sensible drivers too. They’re less likely to speed and have less accidents but on a whole are worse drivers than men in terms of skill (probably because you need to do dangerous shit to get good at it). They’re also likely to be less mechanically minded than men. I know there are exceptions but stereotypes exist for a reason mate…fuck why do people get so offended by everything these days 😂
Great points you bring up as the auto makers keep adding more HP the MX-5 Miata stands there with a couple others as slow car fast is a more engaging drive. Mazda manual transmissions are really brilliant - the super light clutch makes it a nice beginners car for learning to drive a manual. Mazda keeps improving the MX-5 with little changes I've noticed from going from the 2016 ND1 Club to a 2024 ND3 Club. You have to really drive them hard to notice the changes. My ND1 drove very close to this new ND3.
Hey, Your content quality is excellent and your content ideas are also good. But your videos have lower audience engagement. Need a proper searchable video tag set up to reach the targeted area and audience. Here are also some of the issues which you need to fix. If those problems are fixed your video easily ranks on the top search results and you get your potential viewers according to your video niche organically. I have some plans for you to fix those issues. Can I share?
I have a 2019. Red. A brauty. With ohlins R/T, HEADERS AND many other slight and not cheap looking mods. I was not suggested to make this car turbo because of 2 reasons: it would cost a fortune and it would lose its reliability which is one of its best caracteristics.
@@lucianolucidi8624 I think you're right, it does everything just perfect now and I'm perfectly happy driving it how it is. Turbo would just kill the reliability

Oh, haha... there we got, got that Stubby.
I don't know what kind of antenna that is, but people swear by the Stubby antenna by Cravenspeed. It's shorter and thicker so it won't bend like the one you have right now.
@@TwilightLynk I ended up getting one of those, it looks great 😃
Hey hows the road/wind noise like at highway speeds? Cheers.
I don't find it bothersome at all. I talk on the phone and shoot videos with the roof off. With the roof on its like a coupe and the best of both worlds...
MX5 Things has many interesting mods. I have several installed.
I'm tempted to get the remote roof operation thing so I can open the roof from the keys when I'm walking up to the car.
I think you just read my mind. 👍🏿🙏🏿
Honda CR-V....Honda has really stepped up their game.
That's what I'm leaning towards the Toyota seems a little bland and the interior of the Honda is much nicer and it just looks better as a car. Supposedly much better driving dynamics than the RAV4 also...
Economical and environmental ideology aside, from a pure driver's perspective, electric cars really do makes no sense. Someone who'd buy a plaid as a weekend car is lost in life to me. Automatic: In a track environment it's okay, you can make use of that added assistance to focus more on your trajectories and thus getting better times. On the road, you don't want to break times, you can't without endangering other's lives. So it's just less driving. Weight : obviously less handling and more mechanical wear. Sound and overall feedback : you have none. No sensations. Power : more than 250hp in a 1t5 car is useless on open roads 99% of the time no matter what people says. On paper it has everything you don't want in a driver's car. Tjat said, a modern automatic bmw m5 or Audi rs6 has only it's engine for it and a bit more feedback thought, it's barely better in my eyes.
I actually think we are just offloading the carbon footprint to other countries as well. China is the big EV player now and they make 30 new coal plants a year more than the rest of the world combined. They're actually way less green than people think. If you really cared about the environment you'd just buy a used car and run it for as long as you can keep it alive for. But yeah nothing like a 6 speed manual and a nice exhaust note. Porsche are going to destroy their company at this rate, new boxters are EV only which is not going to end well for them...
@@JacksDailyDrives I don't know if Porsche is really gonna commit. Germany is already backpedalling hard on EVs inside the EU due to the fact that they realized they can't beat Chinese EVs and it's a general disaster regarding the sales. No more full EV in 2035, they opted against. But I also agree buying a used car is always more environmentaly friendly than an EV. They already fight to know which one is more environmentaly friendly from conception with a brand new ev vs a brand new petrol and only from a c02 pov. And idk, it feels kind of logic to me that over comsuption is never going to be an answer to any environmental issue. The future is definitely not full of EVs, probably a third of the park will be EV. Happy with my 2011 z4.
Have a base Tesla model Y for the wifey and just picked up a MX 5 RF today! Both great cars but in different ways. Enjoying the content :)
been commuting with my nd3. it's honestly a little too quick and definitely too flashy to be a full-send sports car ALL the time. Most of the time, I think about reving it out, having some fun; but then I don't, because it'll make me look like a total dick bag trying to prove something - in a car that everyone will recognize the next day on the same commute. I generally don't care what people think about me, but just the thought of being that dick bag is a big turn off for me.
Yeah mine has a straight piped exhaust too so I rarely rev it out because it sounds ridiculously loud. The other day I got pulled over for a random breath test and I had to drive away so slowly so that the exhaust wouldn't get the police excited to check it out further 🤣
How is the wind buffeting in the RF? Does windows up while driving help?
I find it's fine with the windows up, but if I'm not recording a video I'll have them down. I'm used to riding motorcycles all the time so the wind is nothing compared to being on a bike 🤣
Nah, we need even harsher speeding infringements....gotta fund the 2032 Olympics (the quadrennial scam where taxpayers hand billions to corporations) somehow.
I handed over many thousands when I lost my license a year or two ago when a police officer rocked up to my house for a previous TH-cam channel in which they had watched 50 hours of video of me riding motorcycles and wanted to throw 100s of thousands of dollars of fines at me. Had to lawyer up and it was pled down to one high range speeding fine. Never actually lost my ability to drive to work though because I worked as an emergency doctor during covid and had a 24/7 work license. The police in Brisbane are a special kind of twat :P
Greetings from Waterbury, Ct. I have an ND Club and have the Kenstyle steering wheel (which looks very fat with your wide angle camera). I like the many roads in this state, but prefer the more reasonable speed limits in N.Y. State.
@@mikeb9569 such a beautiful state, I lived there around 2008/9/10. The cops around your part of the world seem a bit more relaxed towards speeding than they are here in Australia 🤣 one time I got doing 140mph and I told the cop I get confused between miles and kilometres per hour, as soon as he heard I was an Aussie he was pretty chilled 😜
@@JacksDailyDrives LOL. 😄
Great video, great decision & great car! I bought one of these RFs a few months ago and echo your sentiments completely. It's an absolute joy. (The anecdote about your wife was very amusing btw. Kudos!)
I'd wished I bought one sooner. Mazda make such vehicles to drive. It's definitely not a slow car but in an age of cars that do 0-100 in 3 seconds flat with dual clutch transmissions it's so much more fun to drive an engaging 6 speed manual and to enjoy actually driving something rather than just mashing a pedal and steering 🤣
Definitely get the swaybars. I’ve had my nd rf for a year now and just put in swaybars about 2 weeks ago and I wish I had done it sooner.
@@Hazard_skates which ones did you go with? I think that'll definitely be a job for someone else to install not me :P
There's another storage compartment (about the same size as the central glove box) behind the driver's seat in a RHD RF. There's one behind each seat in the roadster.
Great review, cheers. I just got myself a 2020 ND2 RF and very much mirror your thoughts. It's one hell of a fun little car.
Which colour. I'm finding the black and absolute nightmare to keep clean :P
Agree, bikes are difficult to ride within the draconian speed limits. I went on a two week road tour from QLD to Victoria early this year on the 1250gs. Stunning roads and scenery...but spent half the trip logging onto TMR and emails expecting a speeding fine. Fortunately, I made it through the whole trip without one.
I'm have tempted to get something slower like a 400 because recently I got myself a 6 speed manual Mazda MX5 and it's an absolute blast to drive without the risk of losing my license every time I floor it 😂
I'm curious, is the transmission hump in the footwell on the right or the left? Here in the US, it's on the right side which affects the passenger.
I think it's on the passenger side because I haven't noticed it on the driver's side
@@JacksDailyDrives Hmm, it's on the driver's side in a RHD ND in the UK so I assume for every model (LHD and RHD) it's on the right side. You just don't notice it when your foot is on the clutch or on the left foot rest unless you have loose trousers that might brush against it.
Nice! Is that just a straight pipe or some aftermarket exhaust? And I should not have googled that :P
I think they've just straight piped it from the looks of it. It still has the catalytic converter as I believe the ND has two of them one near the headers and another one further back. Also from what I read in the receipts I got with the car wasn't an expensive solution and only cost $250 to get done 👍
Beautiful ride, I have a 2020 RF and I want to lower it by an inch but I can't afford it because I know a mechanic will charge me a fortune to lower it by 1 in
You can get lowering springs for much cheaper than a whole coilover setup but yeah mechanics earn more than us doctors do these days 🤣
@@JacksDailyDrives 😁
Subscribed, because I also have the Kenstyle custom steering wheel in my 2020 Club ST. If you haven't already, get the leather shift boot and PB boot from Redline Goods. I also opted for the arm rest foam mod to avoid hitting the display knob with my forearm. Also. if you get the LED strip for the rear, reinforce the connection where the wires attach to the strip (a bit of epoxy will be good). Mine broke after a time.
@@mikeb9569 yeah now I need to match the red stitching on the steering wheel as it was all grey before. I watched a video on that arm rest mod how tricky is it to install?
@@JacksDailyDrives You have to remove the console, but it's easy and the instructions are good. It involves gluing the foam to the leather and lid. I brought the console into my living room and did it in an evening whilst watching TV. There are two thicknesses available, I chose the largest, but used "memory foam" instead of the supplied foam in the kit. Super comfy.
@@mikeb9569 how long did that while task take you to do?. Got a Miata thing rear led strip for the rear of the car to install into the rear light haness that should arrive soon :)
@@JacksDailyDrives The LED strip was easy to install, just plug and play. I think you have to thread the wire through an existing grommet. You may have some light bleed around your trunk (bonnet?). I used foam strips to block the escaping light. Like I suggested, reinforce the connection of the wires to the strip.
@@mikeb9569 like light escaping the top of the trunk lid? I think next up I need some metal pedals to make it look a bit more swanky 🤣
sick fuckin wheels, normally not a fan of aftermarket, but those have that BBS vibe that look really nice. I like how these are a little more curvy, especially on the black. I got a base red 2024, I love driving it, such a fun car (a little too showy for me but it's worth it).
Yeah I love how they look, tyres are getting a bit worn out so I think I'll have to make a video soon on tyre selection for the MX5
Changing the color of a car is not a good idea. Better it stays the color it was born. Plus it would greatly reduce its value.
@@carlodipaolo5826 is that because people assume it's been in an accident? Maybe I'll just have to get it redone the same colour again at some point to make it look mint again...
@@JacksDailyDrives No not because it could have been in an accident. Consider that when a car is built the complete body gets painted all at once so the color is through out the whole car. The color is the same in the door jams, under the bonnet and boot panels, the metal in the engine compartment. Everywhere. To change the color would just make the car horribly cheap looking every time an area exposes the other color, In expensive complete restorations where an entire cars get disassembled down to a bare body shell then it is usually sand blasted down to metal, then completely primed and painted. With such restorations then any color could be chosen since the color would be through out like it was from the factory. I believe your car here is black and black is a completely cool color for a car.
@@JacksDailyDrives How about a wrap?
@@mikeb9569 I got some quotes for wraps and they want like $5000AUD which I felt was a bit steep. Also I'm not too sure how they will hold up here in Queensland Australia with the epic heat and humidity...
Looks great in the video, unfortunately black is a very difficult color to maintain, every imperfection shines like a diamond. However it looks great when clean and properly detailed. Perhaps look into a quality detail, paint correction, ceramic coating and maybe some 3M paint film for chip prone areas once properly refurbished. Best of luck with her!
What steering wheel is that?
It's a Kenstyle one got it off Amazon delivered from Japan to Australia for $399AUD, bargain.
What exhaust is that? Sounds lovely.
It's literally just been straight piped through and had the end muffler removed. It is what sold me on the car, came that way from the dealer but sounds so much better than stock. Bit less restrictive too :) not entirely sure on the legality of it...
I've gained a reputation in my department for my vacations. I love going to this hut in a village of 30 people at the edge of my country. There is no cell coverage. I've since got internet in it (but haven't told anyone and often just disconnected it). The reason why is because whenever someone tries to call me, it looks like I'm dead. My phone doesn't even notify me of who tried to call. They can hardly be mad since it's not a decision I make, as far as they know, to disconnect the phone. It's the most vacation, vacation I've ever had. It's fantastic.
Yeah everywhere I go camping on my motorcycle there is no reception which is very relaxing just to be disconnected from the world. It's been so long now that we've been constantly online and I don't think it's great for our health, I also don't see a way to escape it that easily with modern society and having to have a job etc. I'm also quite partial to my TH-cam which is really all I use my TV for at home as of never watch mainstream media for anything other than a laugh at the propaganda they spew out 🤣
Got your channel in recommendations. Neat channel. I don't think I've ever been so early
Thanks mate, I don't know if I really have a theme for it yet but I like cars, motorcycles, camping, politics, health and fitness (being a doctor that's sort of my field although I'd argue most doctors don't know anything about health and are just taught about disease).
great video. How tall are you? I'm 6.2 - I'm worried it might be a tad to small headspace/ POV wise for a daily...what do you think?
Cheers mate. I'm 184cm tall and I don't find it too cramped at all, it's not spacious but I guess it is a sports car. My hair isn't close to touching the roof when it's closed but I've heard you can even get an adaptor to slam the seats lower to make for more headroom if you say wanted to track car it and needed to wear a helmet.
I've ordered myself a new 2024 ND3 model (soul red paint). I look forward to getting it around Dec/Jan. I'll be using it as my daily driver too. Would be good if you made another video detailing all the modifications and changes. You touched on the steering wheel, but you've also replaced the antenna as well. The exhaust also doesn't sound like it's a stock exhaust. From what I've seen on plenty of other videos, the exhaust note is deep and raspy while yours is much deeper without the rasp.
The soul red colour looks awesome, would have been my choice if buying new but alas I am stuck with this black which is a nightmare to keep clean 🤣. It came with all the mods except for the steering wheel and gear knob which I've done. It looks like with the exhaust they've just straight piped the exhaust and gotten rid of the muffler from looking under the back of the car. Always a cheap and easy way to make them sound better just need to cut out the old box and link it up with piping. It's really a great daily driver, especially since it's only really for taking myself to work and the gym and the occasional blast up the mountains (we have a Jeep wrangler for family outings with the kid or dogs).
