I lost my sweet mother a week ago. I just can't stop crying. How do you ever heal from losing someone who's part I was before birth? Someone who made her entire life about us?

Sometimes people can't wait for their parents to die especially if they are abusive. That's what I meant by unless you have lived it. I'm still waiting for my mother to die.

I prepared myself emotionally for when the time came, I would imagine what it would be like not to have any of my loved ones around, oh my goodness that exercise alone hurt. And after the exercise, immediately I would pick up the phone to tell my loved ones how much I love them. The exercises helped me to get closer and appreciate them more. Because you just never know when they go. But it helped me, my mom died in her sleep oh my goodness I cried like a 5 year old boy, and when it happened I recognized the feeling and it was not that strange but still painful, I knew the time would eventually come. My mother died knowing how much I love her, I honored my mother whilst she was alive and told her a million times how much I appreciate what she has done for me. I also don’t see it as death, the flesh just dies but the spirit is still alive, she more alive than ever. If you are Christian reading this, Ecclesiastes 7 says the day of death is better than the day of birth. Psalm 147:3 God heals the brokenhearted and binds their wounds. My mother is in eternal bliss, she is home with my grandparents, her parents. She is doing absolutely fine, I’m looking forward to seeing her again. I think of her as if she is still alive, this brings me closer to her. Be strong and find peace knowing your loved one is back home, more alive than ever, Earth was just temporary.

When you have lost both parents no matter how old you are, you feel like an orphan. I think its because that relationship you had as someone's child is now over. You are no longer anyone's child. You are the front runner now. And missing them never really goes away. I had no parents by the time I was 28, I'm 71 now and I still miss them.

My Mother died 27 years ago, and my Father died 21 years ago. What I can say to all of those who have suffered a recent loss of a parent is this: You will get your life back together again. I am not saying that you will get over it, because I honestly don't believe that we ever fully recover from losing those that we love......but, at some point you will start smiling again and your life will regain some of its normality. My prayers to all of you who are going through this right now.

I'm 24 and on (31 Jan 24) my 56 yr old dad suffered a fatal asthma attack and went permanently comatose, never to reawaken. I watched it all happen in front of me, I have lived as a shut in since i dropped out of highschool and he loved and took care of me anyways... we always did everything together. He was my hero, my dad and my best friend. I feel so unprepared for adult life without him i have no skills or life experience. I feel so lost.

I'm 59 and it's taken me many years to master the art of surpressing my emotions. So much so that at a funeral I attended recently I felt absolutely no emotions about the person who had died. I learnt a long time ago having emotions and/or feelings was a luxury I couldn't afford. People who know me know that I never open up and I certainly don't show any vulnerablity...this is my way of protecting myself and feeling safe.

Good thing we had an great example of how we must try to live our life . Blessings and luck to you and your future we’ll need it everyday . for me I’ve come to terms with everyday is going to be tough without him but hey it is what it is . Truly isn’t fair but we must continue on strong as they were even when they truly weren’t .

Lost my dad today. Listened to a couple of his favorite songs when I was going to bed. I'm glad to get some tips/pointers to help me handle this. I've been talking to him a lot. I'll always love you, dad. Even in death, you'll always be my dad, and I will always be your son. Hopefully, we don't have to reunite anytime soon. But I know that the day we see each other again, we'll get piss drunk and laugh like we used to. Love you, dad. Never seen a bluer sky.
