I talk in-depth for a long time mostly about Shirogorov knives but other brands as well that I think are worth your time.
Knife Notes - Jeans
Perhaps one of the most utilitarian collaborations to date between Dmitry Sinkevich and Sergey Shirogorov, the Jeans is a no-nonsense knife with a sweeping Persian-style blade with a unique single-sided fuller that exits towards the blade spine. The handles are anodized in a distressed blue that emulates the feel of well-worn jeans that equally hides scratches and wear as well.

With every collaboration knife comes a few Custom versions as well and the RQ36 is no different. We have a very fancy version here that ups the limited run knife by pairing it with Sergey's DRRBS roller bearing system with phosphor bronze dust-sealing ring, mokume bolsters and backspacer, copper dust-infused scales and a beautiful scratched mirror-finished M398 blade.

Really appreciate the opportunity to see these knives, James. I do have to admit, the recent dash to much skinnier knives just does not do it for me. Many recent CD's also fallen foul to this trend; Magnetic, F95NL. I thought the RQ36 dealt with this superbly. Thinner blade stock, but even beefier handle. I just hope this skinny fad disappears soon. That Custom Icebreaker you featured away back, now that's a thing! All the best.
It's always been a model that peaks my interest, buy I've never pursued to purchase. This video, with the detailed look, may make me change my mind. Thanks again.
I too was not as interested in this collaboration when I started looking at shirogorov knives however in person there are some quite unique details that only this knife has. it's a very utilitarian folder
The golden years of CD's IMO. This, the F3NS, F95 Antique, Hati Bronze.. With the Astrum and CDX recent releases though, CD studio has got its mojo back I reckon.
I agree, and as mentioned 2018 was really a pivotal year for Custom Division. Here's to 10 years and with the CDX people are expecting even greater now from the lineup!

i would say usually the custom collaboration models are mostly just prototypes done in fancy materials and this one is not any different! however as mentioned there are some unique difference such as the inlays interlocking with the skeletonization in the liners that does make it just a bit more special :)
I had an opportunity to grab an F3B for near table price a few years ago. I regret my life.
Indeed it was actually one of the least desirable custom divisions upon its release. however in recent years things have definitely changed so it is nice to see this knife getting its appreciation as of recent!

A few notes and questions: 1) Do you think Shirogorov will release a production F3 with both titanium liners and handles? 2) Never knew the F3R came with 3D milled handles and the CD/custom shaped clip. Awesome. 3) I wish they would make the backspacer as long down the spine as the pocket clip reaches. 4) According to a 10.19.2021 graph from Larrin Thomas the Vanax has 10ft-lbs toughness @60.5 Rc where M390 has 5ft-lbs of toughness @ 61.5 Rc.
I'm just curious, I've never heard of a "Kami" Shiro. Is it its own distinct model? Or a variation of an existing model? Does it have its own meaning?

Given the video date, this largely seems to be the last time they made these in a large batch. I’m sure there have been a few batches since then, though I haven’t paid as much attention. I love my 111.

The knife is really beautiful. Shirogorov actually saved the best looking knife for last. I hope they are in stock for a while. My notification went to my junk mail. I was lucky to find the notification. I just over paid buying the red version on Arizona Custom Knives. So I have to wait to buy the Aerum. Hopefully I can buy one later. The knife looks really hot. Magnicut would have been an awesome blade steel for the Aerum.

James, don’t you think Shiro has had these types of screws out long enough to warrant making them more readily available? I have an inverted bit CD screw, but I had to buy it from a group member who got a batch made to order. The bits don’t really add cost and can easily be added to CD pieces or sell them as a trinket for a nominal fee
I wonder if they’ll do a gen 3? The Quantum platform is fantastic. They make first come out with a production CF model, like the CF bronze CD Quantum, or an inlayed model like the F95RNL.

Awesome video, thank you. I think S110V is also more corrosion resistant than S90V. Love this knife and wish I had one. On a side note, how is the ZDP-189 blade treating you on the IceBreaker? Surprising non-stainless blade choice on a knife with that name designed for an Arctic voyage.

Glad you covered the pocket clip issue, if only the clip’s beauty was matched by it’s functionality… the only real drawback of this one in my opinion. Hope we get another Neon CD soon! How does this action compare to a shiro Collab rq36? If you had to pick one which would it be?
In general RJ's detents can be quite hard almost painfully so for some people. I would say in general as there is always some variation, the shirogorov version has a detent about 80% as hard. I myself have an RJ Helium that I would not trade anything for but between say a titanium overkill model I would choose the Shirogorov collaboration model.

around 100 apparently. I'm sure the regular production run is being made right now. Unsure how long it will take before they release them however.

Another top notch video James. Was wondering when the workshop would get around to releasing this. Is it just me, or is the extract cut more like a traditional fuller cutout, compared to the line on the SR?
it should be the same as the SR dimensionally, although perhaps it looks more pronounced in a monosteel and not a damasteel pattern
