To be fair, he grabbed the blokes arms as well. On a TV show you have to stand on your mark so the camera can film you properly. Jim would steer the contestants and guide them so they stood in the right place for the camera. You see the hosts of other quiz shows do the same thing, but they were more subtle than Jim. He made it obvious that he was steering them around the set!
