Jascha Heifetz Anecdote from the Auer Class Related by Isolde Menges - original video from May 2023
มุมมอง 13616 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
Isolde Menges was in the famous Leopold Auer violin class a classmate of Jascha Heifetz before the Russian Revolution of 1917. She witnessed Heifetz playing with a ball during class and related to my teacher what followed next! Small correction: I guess Ron DeLima and Zubin Mehta were classmates in the early-mid 40s not 30s! My apologies, Sasha Lasserson was a violin teacher not a horse breeder...

Rons teachers: - Michael Zabludow (former co-leader of the London Philharmonic Orchestra) - Colin Sauer (Dartington String Quartet) (pronounced Sawyer) - Isolde Menges - Alfredo Campoli Attended master classes with Ruggiero Ricci and others Ron also almost had the chance to study with Sascha Lasserson, but Lasserson passed away before the first lesson commenced.

oops, 25:14 in the video is actually a short clip of Seljalandsfoss waterfall, inserted in the wrong place! but i've kept it in there as I caught a bit of audio noise of the waterfall on my mobile
Interesting and long list of Auer students. It would have been really great to hear their individual playing (apart from the already well known recordings of Zimbalist, Elman Seidel, Parlow and Heifetz)
His passing was very hard for me,,,he used to listen to me play stride piano and improvise....later in Santa Monica,William Wolcott...the greatest musician ...I've ever known.... introduced me to the great man...Eugene said , you don't have to introduce Barry to me,this guy is really really good.... with that the great master took bills violin and cold played for me tcycofsky violin concerto,in the most incredible way...the ultimate virtuoso...he took Bill and me to dinner....I found him to be kind warm and respectful...and very charming,,he was born in 1950 just 5 days before me.....we immediately hit it off... Whole he will always be irreplaceable,,,in some ways William Wolcott remains to carry the flame....a serious and incredible violinist himself,I know hill always be indepted to possibly the greatest violinist that ever lived...I shall never forget playing and meeting the great man.
Thanks very much for that. I was a student at R.C.M. in the early 60's and sat in her lessons and accompanied several of her students. You are right...despite severe arthritis she was not afraid to demonstrate passages, and I was in awe of her. By the way as well as being a pianist I studied viola with John Dyer, who had been in the Menges Quartet.
wow you are lucky (blessed should I say?) to have been in her lessons as well as with John Dyer. if she shared any Heifetz stories from Russia other than the one I made a subject of a whole video, I would be fascinated to hear more! She was from what I gather one of the honest ones about Heifetz (recognised his genius without jealousy), as opposed to Campoli and Ricci for example, who suffered from professional jealousy. By the way I am a fan of all 3 regardless of their attitude towards J.H.
THOMAS Heskith violin
Campoli taught Ron CONDUCTING I meant to say ;-)
Correction: Ron was ROYAL AIR FORCE not Navy
FYI, Vikings was pretty dark .. not the stereotype, but yes .. some red haired - but generally they was dark 🙂
interesting! thanks for the info
I originally posted this vid in 2023 on my lost poem channel (www.youtube.com/@lostpoem1725) A few errors have been corrected in the details box
Thank you. What a tragic story. As a doctor, not a brain surgeon, it is shameful what was done in the name of medical science. Of course, poor or incorrect science led some doctors to believe these were state of the art treatments. It was a different age in society and medicine and would be totally unacceptable today.
Haha the money thing, never know your hero personally
Quite a character... What a collection of instruments he had. I have his Heifetz Biography.
Don't forget Christian Ferras, among others. Also, on that Kreisler album, he's actually playing a Peresson. And fun fact, on the album cover, there is a painting in the background. That is Eugene with Morgan Fairchild.
thank you for this info!
@ViolinPilgrimages-rds You're welcome! I'm William Wolcott, btw, but you probably figured that out. ;)
Miss you, Eugene. You're the greatest. Btw, thank you for the mention.
very nice! My violin teacher "Marc Bouchkov" has made a video aswell of him reacting to old recordings of Heifetz incase you have some spare time :) Greetings from Germany
Greetings to you, do you have the video link? thank you
ah perhaps this one I will certainly watch it th-cam.com/video/LN-e9pXC9-g/w-d-xo.html
@@ViolinPilgrimages-rds Yes :)
Yeonah Kim is Korean ;-)
Any Chinese parent (like me) would be well envious of this Korean girl. My 10 and 14 yr old are nowhere near this level, bringing shame on the family! I have failed as a tiger parent...😂

As soon as I saw this, I knew it was going to be prefaced with tragedy.
I am lucky i stumbled upon this video. thanks for taking the time to upload sir :)
kind words! thank you
why in the "SADNESS AND TRAGEDY" we listen Beethoven's ode to joy?
Pristine condition!
I like the elegant poker face 😂
me too. old school
Arguably the greatest collector, insofar as he didn't only have Strads, del Gesus and Amatis, but had the finest examples of numerous "lesser" makers as well.
thanks to Max Korcynski for sending me the footage whilst on his holiday in Vilnius! (about time I got myself over there too)
Sooo, Luigi Tarisio was "a poor boy, from a poor family..." to quote the Queen song. I'll get me coat.
