This is Why I Have Never Bought a Brand New RV
In this video, I'll explain why I prefer buying a preowned RV over a new one. We'll dive into the reasons behind this choice, including cost savings, slower depreciation, and the ability to anticipate common issues. However, I'll also touch on the downside of buying a preowned RV and the pros of buying a new one.
Let's explore the benefits and considerations of opting for preowned RVs together!

    i got a 2008 rv 50 k miles, it was the rolls royce of class b plus in 2008. couldn't be happier, newer ones are falling apart, super expensive. quality i got you cant find any more, need to be aware of tires, and gen hours but would recommend what your video talks about. especially if new to it. can always resell and upgrade down grade

    Casita is at $26K base for a Deluxe model which is the majority of what they sell, the Deluxe can be optioned up to $35K now. Rumor has it they will be bringing back a 13' model soon. I too think that Casita has a better look and fit/finish and that's why we ordered and purchased a Casita Spirit Deluxe. Scamp makes a great trailer as well and they've made some big changes to their construction materials, designs and options in the past year which has really improved upon their product and overall brand. One should be happy to own either trailer.

    We've been RVing for 18 years and have owned 2 new RVs and 0 used. Personally, I'd be very judicious about who I was buying used from especially if it was a later model year RV. As you mentioned, there are people who make well-meaning "improvements" and may or may not have done the work properly but there are also a lot of RV owners out there that haven't got a clue how to use their RV and never take the time to learn. This mis-use can cause irreversible damage and headaches for the next owner. Equally, maintenance is often skipped because it is "too expensive" so more problems get passed along. Personally, I"ve had nothing but good experiences working with manufacturers for first-year warranty issues. And we keep our RVs long enough that resale and depreciation aren't really a factor.

    We're going back and forth between new versus used. You bring up great points on going used. Especially with all the poor workmanship we've heard about in RV's manufactured since 2020. I tend to think that quality was better prior to then. And cost certainly is a big consideration. Thanks for putting this out here.

    I like the Casita as far as tank sizes and the fact that the underbelly is fiberglass as well but I think the Scamp has better floor plans especially the 19 as far as counter space in the kitchen as well as some of their smaller models that have good counter space as well you can always work around the tank sizes by carrying a water bladder and getting a compost toilet, just my opinion

    I started my Travel Trailer search looking at Scamp and then moved onto Casita as they had better quality construction. I briefly checked out Oliver along the way but at $100k with no family friendly floor plans Oliver wasn't a good option for a family of 4. I'm headed up to BC Canada to check out Escape next. Escape seems like the best bang for you buck. What do you think about Escape Trailers?

    • @texlee1640
      @texlee1640 8 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Escape is a fantastic trailer, my only beef with them and Bigfoot (comparable products) is the wooden cabinetry and furniture. We were drawn to FGRV's because of their durability and ruggedness, especially when used on dirt and gravel roads. Wooden structures don't hold up well to those conditions which is why Casita, Cortes and Oliver are the only FGRV options suitable for us personally. That said, while Oliver makes the best FGRV (hands down, no contest), Escape provides the best bang for your buck in terms of overall design, function, resale, etc.

    Yep, thanks for the comparison. We started with a 1978? Scamp 13’ back in about 2010. Camped all over America in it for about four years. It was a blast, but we wanted more room. In 2014 we bought a new Keystone 23rb 23’ travel trailer, with a slide-out section. It was pretty dreamy to camp in, but a real chore to haul around and park. We sold it last year, and bought a new Casita. We live just about fifty miles from the Casita factory. The Casita is certainly a lot easier to tow and set up. We’re getting used to the smaller space. I’d buy a Scamp 19’ for sure, but it would prevent us from bringing the motorcycle with us in the bed of the truck. There are always trade-offs and compromises. Happy Camping!

    Thanks for putting this together in the spirit of guidance and education. I wish you well with the Airstream. I love the Airstream but could not get over the poor customer service, even during the Sales process, which planted fear in me for Service. I bought an Oliver for quality, the staff, and just the kindness of the community. In the end, it works for you and that’s what is important. Safe travels. If you’re an old guy like me and you don’t have time to deal with Service and things falling apart, go to Oliver.

    Thanks but this is based on how you think it looks and how it makes you feel. Most men are concerned about the quality of the build as it pertains to longevity. Airstream lost that a long time ago and Oliver found it.

    Great video, but it clear she has not hit the repair stage of Airstream, lol. It will very painful when you start seeing the dents, rivet pops, cabinet quality, ect….it will be painful. Airstream has also missed the mark on forward thinking with battery placement, still using Dometic AC…LOUD, and they have no option for composite toilet. Low clearance will not allow an Airstream to go place except campgrounds and Airstream lacks the lithium tech to get the job done without hookups. Airstream has gotten so big that their QA has taken a hit over the last few years and wait till you need quality service….ouch, cost and wait time. Oliver continues to maintain a custom build process and far a far better serviceable product. No, it does not have all the flash of an Airstream, but that flash will many times lull you into a buyer remorse place very quickly. Go visit the Oliver factory and visit an Airstream. That will make your decision on the spot.

    This is the exact comparison I am going through right now. The floor plan and aesthetics are much better, IMO, with the Airstream products. Plus, there is a true dedicated full/queen bed option as opposed to having to make arrangements for one in the Elite 1. Having said that, I believe the quality of product and support are in Oliver's favor. Combine that with the fact that Oliver is a true four seasons trailer and it makes a very difficult choice! Thanks for the video!
