RESTORED VINTAGE 1954 RCA 45 RPM MODEL 45EY2 RECORD PLAYER
Its.running.too slow
It was actually running at 44.3 rpm you have very good hearing These RCA 45 players from 1956 had very simple and low cost motors and each one had a speed range from 43 to 46 rpm and no adjustment for speed. I flush the old oil from the motors and lube. Some motors run slow when cold and increase speed as they warm up within the first 2 records.
To think I use one similar way back 1968 to listen Bach, Mozart & Beethoven. Now I use CDs & download from internet.
Technology moves on but many people want to still play their old 45s
Agreed. But reading as a young guy in late 1970s, before digital cds, in another magazine Gram iPhone experts recommending turntables with stylus cartridges connected to receivers. I have one myself with a Sony dvd player for cds. Also download from internet. But don't deny my nostalgia for these record players.
That's Gramophone magazine, British still published.
Classical music fanatic but don't mind Henry Mancini, Rick or Jazz. Good music, too.
It was ahead of its time in that it wasn't till a year or two later than 45s overtook 78s in single record sales.
And then the 33 LP over took the 45s
@@ed45rpm48 And then the 3-speed phonograph became the commonplace thing without there being any more single-speed phonographs.
Yes the multi speed players took over and then stereo
Another Masterpiece...just the way it was...affordable and the 45 's never sounded better...at 16 we all had one...youre the Man ED...😊
Thank you -- I'm bringing these old forgotten players back to life one at a time along with the memories of the good old days.
As an electronics tech, I'm curious. Do you restore the electronics in such a player such as this one? If you do, I'd love to see a video of you restoring the insides of such a player.
Thank you -- yes I restore the tube amplifier and motor but sorry I don't have video
Ed is by far one of the finest restorers of these great machines. Sounds great ! One of my favorite 45’s to! Look how dark that tonearm is :) Find work my friend
Thank you and much appreciated
Another beauty Ed👍 Happy thanksgiving !!
Thank you and Happy Thanksgiving to you too!
Wonderful restoration!
Thank you John
I just restored that exact same model in oak. I love it. Redid all the caps in the amp and new rubber wheels. Sounds great.
Congratulations These 7HF players have great sounds
''Mr. Lucky'' Henri Mancinni Orchestra
His Master's Voice.
Sounds great. I'll bet it sounded better than 95% of the 45-only players sold in the mid 1950s. Weren't most of them "one tube wonders" by 1956? I remember a console we had at school when I was a kid that had one changer for LPs and an RCA mini-changer for 45s, but that setup was probably only used for a year or two.
This was top of the line for RCA 45 players with 4 tube push push pull amp and an 8 inch speaker. Yes many 45 players were "one tube wonders" to reduce the cost but there were also 3 tube players with very good sound
Sorry the 7HF has a 4 tube push pull amp with 2 speakers -- a 3 inch teeter and 6 inch mid range/bass with a simple crossover.
tweeter :)
Simply stunning restoration and original condition
Thank you John - I've been working over time these days :)
Beautiful restoration
Thank you and rare color black bakelite with gray grill
Sounds great Ed! Very rare model ! Fine full restoration
Thank you my friend
I imagine this is about the actual speed of these recordings. The ones on CD and TH-cam seem to be sped up slightly.
These RCA players from the 1950s had low cost motors and they used two or three different suppliers. The speed can vary by plus or minus 2 rpm with some very close to 45 rpm. Many of the motors that have not been cleaned or lubed start slow when cold and speed up when they warm up. I tear down the motor and flush the old oil from the bushings and then oil. Even then some run fast or slow. There is no speed adjustment so you have to enjoy the player as it was hear in 1956. After all they are over 60 years old and now have a new life.
@@ed45rpm48 I prefer the slower versions, to be honest. They sound more accurate for the time. 😀
Very nice but without 78 rpm...
Yes only two speed 45 and 33 rpm RCAs last chance in 1957 / 1958 so they were not popular and also the terra cotta color was not popular and that is what makes this player very rare.
@@ed45rpm48 Also, it was not until mid-1958 that any record company discontinued 78 RPM records.
Great little record player
Thank you
It's running just a half a hair slow. Barely noticeable but i picked up on it after hearing this recording for 50 plus years.
Thank you for the observation-- these players were made in 1956 and the technology was rude by comparison to todays turn tables. The idler wheel is rubber and the turn table is plastic and the motors were simple and low cost. I've restored it and brought it back to life after more than 60 years. The motors tend to run slow until they arm up and some never get over 43 - 44 rpm. The good thing is you are listening to the record the way is was recorded and played in 1956 and not 2024!
Yes i realize all that as u've owned several of them. @@ed45rpm48
Idda put on some Elvis. 😂
Fantastic
The King is in the house and on the 7EP2
Absolutely amazing condition for a 'suitcase' player. Awesome job and it sounds PERFECT.
Thank you once again -
The 4 speed was a low cost design and not made to be restored. It has a "one tube wonder" amp tat relied on a high output cartridge which is not made today. It was a challenge to restore.
Very cool piece of history !!
Thank you - back to life after all these years
Have the pink/gray and the lite green/cream
Hi 45junkie Great that you have the pink/gray and the green/cream 9ED1 players. They are all hard to find in any color! The 9ED2 have a tree tube amp and came in Turquoise/white and the sandalwood/terra-cotta which I think is the rarest of them all since most collectors have never had one or seen one. I restored this player for a good friend in NH. He has the turquoise 9ED2. Enjoy the hunt !! Ed
@@ed45rpm48 HI Ed....These 2 speed players are just about impossible anymore....they rarely come up and considering the sales on these players were basically next to none when U can have all 4 speeds why settle for just one or two at the same time the 45 only players were on decline....That terra-cotta is a beautiful one and the first time I actually have seen one...thanx for posting....John
Yes the two speeds are rare and the terra cotta is very rare. RCA only sold them for less then a year and everyone wanted the 4 speed players. I have never seen a terra cotta on the internet except the the one I restored. Let me know if you have seen any others
@@ed45rpm48 I have seen pix of a few but the one U posted is the first time I have seen that one...I've seen the suitcase type but I wasn't interested in that one but the 2 I mentioned the other day are the only ones I have and it's very rare for any of these 2 speed players to come up for sale....
Did you see the RCA 9ES-5H two tone green 4 speed that I restored. An interesting player and hard to find
Another FINE restoration 👍
Thank you -- these 1954 EY2s do have a great sound
Beautiful restoration
Thank you -- it does have a great sound the lid looks a little faded but it's only the light
I'd seen these hatbox record players in 1930's movies but had no idea they were still being made in 1959.
I know this song.
Mr Lucky Henry Mancini
This was a great find. Those Ronette cartridges always produced good sound.
Thank you
Aaww cuddles
Very unusual. Sounds great. I take my hat off to you sir. Well done.
Thank you these are hard to find sounds pretty good for a one tube amplifier after I restored it
@@ed45rpm48 Excellent work, well done
I live in Australia and w2ould love an international "Q" prefix RCA 45 changer made for 240 mains power.
Maybe you could find a power supply converter 240 to 120 locally to run the player. Do you have 50 or 60 HZ power
@@ed45rpm48 We have 50Hz.
That's another problem since these old RCA motors require 60 hz
Very Interesting!!! Love it. Sounds great 👍 I MUST watch this auction!

Work of art
Thank you very much my friend
Sounds really good. Beautiful player.
Thank you I spend many hours to fully bring these players back to life
🤩😍🤩😍 78 RPM music appreciation towards the end of an era of shellac. Another wonderful restoration.
WOW!
Thank you
I love these players. The Wonderful RCAs. Thank you for uploading.
Thank you - enjoy
Fine work Ed That cabinet is like a mirror!
Thank you -- take a lot of elbow grease :)
Quality restoration 💯💯
Thank you --I try
Very Nice! You mention no auto shut-off. With LP's does it repeat play, as I assume it does in 45 rpm changer mode, or does the needle stay in the lead-out groove?
These two speed players repeat the record on both 45 and 33 The Terra cotter color is so rare that most collectors have never seen this color
I love it , long live the records.
Thank you
What a nice player - and great music, (maurice Williams, Silhouettes) . You made a very good job . Much greetings from germany ;))
Thank you
I also own a Roy Rogers 1949 RCA 9EY36 player. I had the outside restored, but the inside mechanics needs repair.Where can I find someone with the expertise to fix it. I live in San Diego.
Hi David I restore RCA 45 rpm record players from the 50s and have restored 9EY36 players before. Normally I only fully restore the players and sell them on ebay. Reply with your email and I'll contact you. Ed
Excellent ❤
Thank you - much appreciated
Sounds excellent Ed Fine work from the 45 Restoration Master My favorite color of these !
Thank you my friend
Cool
I love it 😊❤
Thank you -- these are very interesting little machines and only made by RCA for 1 year. This is the third one I have restored.
Love it !
Thank you
A beautiful machine. Thank you for sharing.
