Mountains Into Memories
United States
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 21 มี.ค. 2021
Welcome to our Family RV Adventure! Ryan and Rachel here, weekend warriors with a mission to highlight RVing in the eastern United States; with daughter Sarah, son William, and our two dogs (Trigger and Lilly). We live in Pennsylvania, and while PA is our favorite State to explore, we also visit the surrounding states when possible. Our 2024 Salem 29VIEW is towed behind our new 2021 RAM 2500 BigHorn. While we do share some of the technical aspects of RVing, as we learn them, we mainly focus on the places our RV allows us to visit. We hope you will subscribe, join us on some of our adventures and be inspired to go on your own adventures.

Ludington North Breakwater Light; a Side Adventure from Silver Lake State Park | RV Michigan
In this Episode:
Join us on our July 2024 adventure from Pennsylvania to Pure Michigan! We are excited to share our experience!
Our first stop, on the west coast of “the mitten,” is Silver Lake State Park. This park is known for its recreation opportunities on the lake and surrounding sand dunes. It also features the first of many lighthouses we will see on our journey.
The west coast of Michigan has many a light house, but none as unique as the Ludington North Breakwater Light! This light, built in the early 1900’s, features a unique shape to survive the waves of Lake Michigan.
We obtained the proper permits and flag to take our truck out to the ORV or Off Road Vehicle area here at Silver Lake. This was one of the most fun parts of our journey. On this day, we even inflated our paddle board to take out onto Lake Michigan. The lake was very calm and clear, yet very cold. The kids enjoyed swimming in it though, and the almost secluded beach was a great place to relax.
We top off this adventure with ice cream, souvenirs, and a side adventure to a fun farmers market.
Next Week: We’re venturing further north to Traverse City State Park!
Our journey continues every Thursday at 5:00!

When I was thru hiking the AT I camped a night at The Scales. Loved the bathroom and the ponies running by at night and in the morning.
Great video. Loved the leaning lighthouse and the dunes. Felt bad for Rachel. Why do illnesses always hit on vacations 😕. Take care and keep on adventuring 👍 🙂🙏
Rachel’s actually still struggling almost 3 months later. She’s been to the doctor, and is now taking medication, which does seem to be helping. Lots more to come from Michigan, thanks for tuning in!
@@mountainsintomemories Many prayers. 🙏🙏🙏
Michigan has so much to explore. Of course Ann Arbor is enemy territory. OH-IO!!
lol, I’m not a Michigan fan either. But thumbs down 👎 also to OSU…
Thems fightin words!!! 😂
Nice to have that outlet in the truck, Did you guy eat at the chicken shack. We just went up last weekend to eat there and to pick up some day old wings to warm up on the smoker. I think there better the day after.
No we just got ice cream. We tried to minimize eating out on this trip to keep expenses down. Plus, we knew we’d be forced to eat out on later excursions. The food there looked pretty good though, the ice cream definitely was!
How did the new weight distribution hitch do on the highway.
The hitch has done really well. I have 4,000 miles on it now and no issues with sway. I do recommend loctite on the adjustment screws when you get it dialed in, because they will work loose otherwise. I’m very happy with it overall. Very quiet and easy to use.
Thanks,for the info Safe travels.
That looked really fun to be able to drive out on the sand. Loved the sunset at the lighthouse
That was one of the coolest sunsets we’ve ever seen. Hard to beat that Michigan scenery! Thanks for watching!
When you paid the $20 cash for the overnight site at the rest stop, where do you pay that? Inside or a machine?
@@tzavitz there was a machine by the sites.
@@mountainsintomemories Overall, was the road ok to travel with your trailer? Doing it for the first time in a few weeks from Michigan down to VA
@@tzavitz it was ok, not the smoothest road ever, but overall an ok drive. There wasn’t a lot of traffic, which was the nice part. I wouldn’t hesitate to drive that way again.
My parents live near Rockwood, I drove my ATV through the state forest to that (hell I drove all over those mountains) overlook in the 80's. I found a god damn Werewolf colony near there near some body of water. They didn't have electricity or phones! I got the hell out of there. One time, a tornado hit and we took shelter in the basement. It went down the other side of the mountain and hit Salsbury. I drove threw the forest afterwards, it was like 2 football fields wide path of knocked down forest. Unreal.
@@Diabolik771 there’s some crazy stuff that happens up in the mountains! Thanks for watching!
Wow, that was something different! Loved the drone shots and the Bald Eagle capture. Can't beat a beach and a sunset either, looked like a beautiful sky. I have always wondered about the low tire pressure thing on sand. A- Why exactly, does it prevent spinning out? and B - 15 psi seems awfully low, at what point does a tire just go flat?! Great to see you guys doing your thing in Michigan, looking forward to the rest of the trip!
@@WALTERZOLNA so the lower tire pressure puts more surface area of the tire in contact with the ground. Gives better traction. Also allows the tire to conform better to u even surfaces. I was nervous about the 15psi thing. I think 15 and below you run the risk of the tire coming off the rim. You can get special rims with beadlocks to run lower pressures to avoid that happening. Some Jeep guys like to run 5 psi with beadlock wheels. Everything about Michigan was awesome, I can’t wait to share the rest, thanks for watching!
looks like fun!
A good time was had by all!
Welcome to my home state. The dunes is one of are favorite place to play and camp for a week. The wife won't let me take my Ram out on the dunes but that why I have jeep with a big motor and tires, I hope you all had a awesome experience here in Michigan beside the park fee's.
The Ram actually did surprisingly well on the dunes. If I lived in Michigan, I’d hit this place up twice a year at least. You have a beautiful state with a lot of great opportunities. The fees were a bit overwhelming, but at least it was just a one time thing. Buy once, cry once. Thanks for watching!
Now, that looks like somewhere that could drag me away from my beloved Pennsylvania Forests. Looked like everyone was having a great time. So cool seeing the HeftyDuty RAM out there having fun in the sun. Awesome. Very cool. Thanks for taking us along
I think you’d really enjoy Michigan. There’s so many opportunities up there, and we just scratched the surface. I really hope to get back up there someday. The Ram did really well out there. I wouldn’t hesitate to do it again!

@@mountainsintomemories Yes sir
Great video. I have been looking for a detailed technical setup video for this system for a long time. The Camco version is too simple, which maybe fits the theme of “EZ”, but I need more theory on the proper setup. Like you said, I changed trucks so my setup changed. I went from a F150 to a F350 and the receiver is larger and higher. So now I have to refit it with a different shank and re-set everything nice and proper. Your details on tongue weight and initial ball height is good info. I would have liked to see more demo on dialing in the bar spring for the proper distributed load though. It was probably getting late when you picked up your new trailer.
I had definitely planned on filming more that day, but it was a long process to pick up the trailer. For setting up the weight distribution, the most accurate way to do it would be a CAT scale. I've yet to scale this rig, but it tows well, so I'm not highly motivated to scale it. The goal though, is to return roughly half the weight lost to the front axle. So if the weight of the trailer tongue (without the distribution bars attached) causes the front axle to loose 500lbs; then the bars should return 250lbs to the front axle. In my case, on level ground, you can accomplish something similar with a tape measure. If the weight of the tongue (without the distribution bars attached) causes the front axle to raise 2 inches, the attaching the bars should lower it 1 inch. The camco hitch wanted that thumb screw out 5.5 turns as a starting point. I knew my trailer was fairly tongue heavy, so I started at 6 I think. It just so happened to work out fairly nicely, so I've stuck with that. I've since added loctite to that screw because it was vibrating loose. If more weight needed returned to the front, I would turn that screw out further, causing the head to tilt more, putting more pressure on the bars. I hope this helps, if you have more questions, let me know. I'll eventually do a follow up video on the r6, but not sure when.
@@mountainsintomemories Hey thanks for the response. Makes sense and I will try that. I was scratching my head on how to adjust that wheel thing when all those bolts were torqued down. Also thinking what a pain it would be to re-adjust. I suppose you can leave those bolts loose until you have the angle set right and then torque it all down.
@@Lumpschlevot yes, leave those loose until you’re happy with the distribution. Even when they’re torqued, they don’t really hold it completely in place, that’s why I ended up using loctite on the thumb screw and square headed bolt. Those two keep it from moving.
Great video! Nice job brother
thanks for watching, I appreciate the compliments!
I drive the Pa Turnpike all the time. One option is 80 and down US-322 or I-99 to Harrisburg or Bedford, respectively. After driving I-80 west of PA, and I-70 west of PA (Ohio, Indy, Mich, Illinois, Iowa, Missouri, etc.) the Pa turnpike is expensive but it's like butter, smooth, flat, etc. Plan fuel stops cuz the Pa turnpike is expensive. Choose your battles. Travel safe.
Right now the Turnpike from Bedford through Sommerset is a mess of Construction, but other than that, smooth sailing. In Ohio, however, it was a very rough road. Definitely not worth the expense in Ohio. We travel I99 quite a bit, and taking that route to I80 is good for going to North East PA and into New York. Going North West, we take US-322 to I80. Coming home from Michigan we used US-422 in PA, and that worked out just fine.
Great video. Everything you said is spot on. I went with the Firestone XT . Seems to be pretty good tire.
@@Jtwes I always thought about giving the XT a try. I think I’m going up a size when it comes time to replace the KO2s though and Firestone doesn’t offer the size I’m thinking of. We’ll see though, things could change in the next year or so.
I refuse to travel the turnpike for all the reasons you mentioned. Although, I sure do love camping by the abandoned section in Buchanan State Forest 😂 Great video for those who do plan to venture on the turnpike though. Thanks for letting us ride along!
@@pennsylvaniaforestadventurer I believe the turnpike really hurts tourism in PA. I watch a lot of RV TH-camrs, and you never see them here. We hardly saw any other RVs on the pike. The rest of the routes here (east/west) are not easily traveled. I can’t imagine it doesn’t have an impact. I like Buchanan. We might venture over the this fall.
Do you have any lifters issues? I would love to buy power wagon but I've heard a lot of bad things about 6.4 HEMI...
@@giecy1977 I have not had any issues with my truck, and wouldn’t hesitate to buy another 6.4 Hemi. Just use the required oil, and change it regularly. Don’t let the truck sit and idle for any length of time, because the oil pressure is too low at idle.
If you had mentioned it before what is the issue with the Turnpike? I’ve traveled all over PA OH MI IN etc. you either pay to run the pike or you pay in time running the back roads. My company only had at the time a PA turnpike card to pay tolls. It came out of my pockets to run Ohio and Indiana. But if time wasn’t an issue coming out of PA to say Toledo or into Michigan I’d would run 76 to 224 to 250 and across 20. Lots of small towns but a nice drive especially at night. Looking forward to the next week’s episode.
The only real issue with the turnpike is the cost it adds to a trip. We don't make a lot of money, and we travel a lot, so if we had to run the pike regularly, we would have to travel significantly less. In this case, it cost us $65 to save an hour; I don't make anywhere near $65 in an hour, so hard to justify spending it to save it. The best thing we have found, is to choose destinations that don't require east/west travel. We did take a different route home from Michigan, because time was less of an issue, plus we were traveling in daylight. I believe it was route 20 that we took across Ohio, and then loosely followed 422 back towards Ebensburg, PA.
Thanks for the efforts in showing us such beautiful places in this park! Although blood loss was not expected😂. The truck mirrors are really neat too.
I appreciate you watching! This was a really fun area to explore despite the blood loss!
I purchased a 2022 Pioneer Puma 31RLQS from Bill Plemmons RV in Raleigh NC in 2021 and over this last weekend we were driving from Wilson NC to Virginia Beach, VA for a vacation ( Date Range September 6th thru September 9th 2024) and 4 of the travel trailer tires exploded , tire pressure was checked prior and was at correct Manufacturers Tire Pressure and a tire inspection was completed. I have spent almost $1500 in roadside service charges and with the purchase of 5 brand new tires (Including the spare) and I just wanted to find out the tire brand that was used on this model just to verify that is reflected the tires that were placed on my unit. I appreciate your help with this matter, I am working on getting estimates to complete the repairs to the damaged fenders on both sides. Thanks for any feedback or assistance with this matter.
It stinks to hear of blowouts, especially all 4 tires. If you had Castle Rocks, it’s not surprising though, and most trailers of that year would’ve came with them. I would never suggest buy Castle Rock tires. Goodyear is the best I’ve had experience with, but there’s other good ones out there. I would suggest an onboard Trailer Tire Pressure Monitoring System so you can keep an eye on pressure as you’re driving. You can then see symptoms of a blowout before it happens, preventing further damage to your trailer. Even good tires can have failures.
I've been running Mobil 1 0W40 because I cannot find anyone in my area that carries the Pennzoil Ultra Platinum.
I’ve only found one local place that has it, and it’s expensive there. Amazon has it, and I have it on “Subscribe and Save” so it arrives at my door every 6 months along with a filter.
This thing is beautiful. True freedom. Cheers mate
Yes indeed! Thanks for watching!

We have the exact same rig as you guys. Did you have any problems with your shower leaking through the frame on the bottom?
Knock on wood, we've had zero leaks in our 29view. We use all the plumbing regularly, and I keep a watchful eye on things. Our last rig leaked at just about every fitting in it, so I'm rather paranoid when it comes to that. Only plumbing issue we had, was I forgot to separate the grey/galley tanks before heading to the dump station. When moving the rig, the grey came out the shower and flooded the camper...
Excellent Presentation !! Thank You For Sharing Your Knowledge. Proper Hitch Setup Is Very Important. Safe Travels.

Great DIY. I have been building a storage solution for my trucks the last few years, in my head, lol. at the begining I was wondering about the traction boards, but now I remember why you would have them. I definitely like that bed slide, just not sure how well it would work with all my different uses for my bed. Thanks for the great video.
I'm not going to lie, I had totally different intentions for this whole project. Originally I was going to mount a Titan Sidekick tank on the drivers side, and I can think of several occasions where extra gas would have been awesome; but that didn't happen for several reasons. The traction boards were a last minute purchase, arriving the day before we left for Silver Lake. I really like the cargo glide, it rarely hinders things. When it is a hinderance though, it can be a real PITA. I'm lucky enough to have a dump trailer for most of my hauling. Thanks for watching!
You're right about price but the Rams aren't selling for msrp. $10k+ discounts all over the place.
Yup, there's lots of discounts now. The game is always changing. There were no discounts to be had when this was filmed.
Lhsp! Wow we were just there a few weeks ago for the bluegrass festival. We were camping at Ohiopyle. Have you ever done a video there? There's certainly a lot of exploring to do around there too.
I've always wanted to go for the bluegrass festival! I've not done any videos from Ohiopyle, but have been there many times. I'm hoping to go there to do some filming later this month, but plans subject to change. Thanks for watching!
Good idea. Keep up the great videos!
Thanks for watching! I hope it was helpful!
When we bought our Starcraft 212 FB new in 2021, it came wearing Castle Rock tires that were 7 months old. This was our first travel trailer and I'd never heard of Castle Rock tires, so did a little research. I couldn't believe all the "China Bomb" stories, but, lacking experience, I couldn't ignore them, either. Double checking, the tire specs were the same as the Goodyear, so I figured the Castle Rocks would be as good. and that the Castle Rock horror stories, especially the one where the writer claimed he had one blow up while in his spare tire carrier, were anomalies. After my first Castle Rock blowout around three thousand miles later, I made the switch to Goodyear, but cheapskate-slow-learner that I am, I kept one of the brand new, never used OEM Castle Rocks in the spare tire rack, just in case. Had to be good enough to get me to a tire store if one of the Goodyears failed, I reasoned. Wrong. Just days ago, prepping for an upcoming 6 week trip, I found that the unused Castle Rock, kept properly inflated and covered in the spare tire carrier, had experienced internal band separation, deforming the tire and rendering it useless. My advice would be to get the best tires you can afford, but think twice before buying Castle Rock.
I would definitely never suggest anyone buy a Castle Rock tire. The Goodyears are definitely the way to go. Our new Travel Trailer came with another brand, which we're monitoring closely, 3,600 miles in now, will replace with Goodyears at some point.
Very Nice! I live close to swallow falls. if you loved waterfalls...like i do! check out mingo falls in Cherokee nc. 😊❤
I love my 24 tradesman 6.4
We find camping a very economic way to travel and look for it any chance we get. This looked like a great State Park and you even got to enjoy some beautiful nature and adventure!
I definitely prefer camping to anything else. It’s great when the preferred option is also the budget friendly one. We had a really good time out there, thanks for watching!
What app or camera do you use to get the star trails time lapse?
GoPro 11
That was such a nice waterfall.
@@buscampers it was indeed! I was pleasantly surprised actually, I figured there wouldn’t be much flow.
Did they have to drill into the body for the RAM mudflaps?
@@Marklin15 I didn’t have to drill holes into anything metal. They use pre-existing holes there. You will need to drill into the plastic fender liner. If you look back a ways, I have a video showing the install.
Beautiful waterfall area. I've been to Laurel Hill, but never to that waterfall. Thats great that you were able to travel for a wedding and still get some nature time too. The footage of your son dancing at the wedding is so cute!
@@hikingoutdoorfamily I wish I had gotten my camera out more at the wedding. You should definitely check out these waterfalls though if you’re back in that area. It’s a very pretty spot. Thanks for watching!
Great Video. Perfect example of what a Dad camper gets to do...😅 We spent 7 days at Motorized Campsite 5 and had that whole area to ourselves during the week. The weekend came and everyone showed up...🤣 I want to get back and spend another 7 days, but explore more of the very local stuff for hours a day. We went to OhioPyle too much when we were there. Unfortunate about the gear, but at least you didn't die😊
I was considering a boondocking trip to Forbes this fall. Not sure yet. I’m sure there’s more to see up there. I like Ohio Pyle, but it can get a bit crazy sometimes. I was also looking at camping there.
Great episode rydog, I have to say I live relatively close to this area and still have yet to make it to those falls, glad to see you made it. I will say Sam was a little upset you didn’t post a group wedding shot at the end 😅 great stuff man hope all is well with you all!
I wish we had some pictures from the wedding. Honestly, it was incredibly hectic. I don’t think the 4 of us were in any one spot at any given time. Life is good, we’ll be in touch!
Pretty cool adventure guys.
@@ronthompson3525 thanks! It’s just quick glimpse into what PA had to offer!
😮nice waterfall!!😊❤
Sorry about the mic!!!
It could have definitely been worse, at least it was just the mic and not the whole camera!
❤🎉😊you are a good dad to those 2 cute kids!!!❤
Beautiful place!!❤😊🎉
Thanks, we try really hard to raise em up right!
11:44: This moment is so wonderful to see! This is why I love making videos because your kids can look back and be like... WOW!
That moment was really special to catch on camera. Totally not planned, which makes it that much better! I was so happy to finally find that waterfall!
