SCBA confidence training course GPFD
มุมมอง 159K12 ปีที่แล้ว
Grand Prairie Fire Department Texas This is a training course we built from scratch with materials donated by our local Home Depot distribution warehouse. This course has an add on at the end (not included) pertaining to skip breathing, regulator failures, hose coupling direction, and RIC pack connections. We put this together to show various obstacles that can be created with minimal space. It...
Really great video. Bottles are for kids! 😉

Bruh the academy I'm going through right now our whole course was as tight or tighter than the seesaw prop.
I remember doing this during my fire one course at first I was terrified, but once I’ve actually gotten to do it it’s one of those things where it looks bad. but once you actually do it it’s not bad
Currently getting started at the local VFD. I am not going to lie, I kinda dread the obstacle course. It is going to be different that what we have here („here“ being Germany) but the principles are going to be similar. The guys who are already SCBA certified have told me that yes, it is tough but it is manageable. Just go slow, and remember that you are never alone. Here, it is always going to be a team of 2 going through the course. It is impossible to do alone because there are passages like a 10 ft long narrow tube that you have to crawl through. Unless one pushes or pulls the other, it’s not going to work. The course is also meant to teach you to trust your teammates. I was also given to understand that this course simulates every conceivable extreme situation, one after the other. And the rookies who do it for the first time will just tag along with an experienced team, while not wearing a SCBA. Later, they will carry a dummy tank and wear the mask. Only then will they get the „full immersion“ with an actual SCBA.
You go Schrader!
That was dope
I feel like that trap door will scare me
When I did mine I got so mad I climbed over the wires and the instructor yelled at me and I told him to f off... not my finest moment
I did it decades ago.
this was my first ever skatepark i went today they should have kept the same design it looks so good
Oh wow, in NY at my class it’s in a pitch black building and they make obstacles and places you have to drop down into and climb up stairs on your knees backwards
Shouldn't he have also activated his PASS device after calling the MAYDAY?
Good course terrible song
I would love to be able to do this join a fire service for a day and get to go to a fire and wear the turnout gear with the breathing apparatus sadley I can't
I know it seems fun, but for any fire fighter, who may have had to this for real, kudos to you, for your bravery 😬🧡
Good job guy's !
The key is to always stay calm slow and steady. The second you move fast and get caught or stuck you’re gonna freak out.
Gonna use up that oxygen too.
I got to do my first confinement course at my school today cause they offer a fire program and man when I got to those wires and started getting caught definitely hard to keep composure for a second but I just took a deep breath and moved slow and figured what I was tangled on and how to get out of it. Absolutely amazing didn’t think I’d get to do that until fire academy
@@bentuma2833 that’s all you can do. Figure it out when you’re in a hard situation. Good work
I just saw this course and it looks awesome. Any way we could get a copy of the plans. Thanks
miss this era
I just want through my department's confidence course. I can tell you I have ridden through the Rockies on a bicycle . Going through an SCBA confidence course is harder physically for me. I was getting tired just watching this.
Hahaha. Our instructors call it Chuck E. Cheese for adults
The academy I’m currently at straight up spray paints old masks so you can’t see
You just had to play the song we literally ALL heard in EMS training.
so this is teaching firefighters to become human spiders?
That Jeff schrader?

Want to up the training total blackout and strobes going. Loudspeaker playing sounds from an actual fire scene. Spin the fire fighter around before you send him in.
Ours was way harder with an ascending tube and IT SUCKED. I failed twice.
Nice
the collapse sim is awesome!!! Diminishing clearance would get me breathing heavy!
Wtf lol
Sound restored.
If I did this I would be talking and saying things like “FANAGEL MORE INSERT MY NAME”
How else want to do this for fun
im in my 1 & 2 class and did a lot of this stuff and it wasnt to bad im 5'9 230
Awesome vid
I just did this blindfolded and I’m 6’2 240 and just about died
Thats my exact size and I failed twice...😔
Dude I was freaking out about doing this in training but this video has calmed my nerves so much
It was a way better video with sound...thanks a lot TH-cam
Did you get to see the course or know what would be involved before hand? It seems like an unknown environment would be more realistic....but also anxiety inducing lol
@@Garyvillines They're not allowed to look at it beforehand. In the academy anyway.
@@user-dj2sz8qn1w yea thats a game changer lol
@@Garyvillines Its not too bad. You just remind yourself it's not real and even if you do use up all your air you'd be able to unplug if you had an "emergency". The first words that came out of my mouth at the end was "that was fun" 😆
Very cool training!
Dear mister Johnson, I would like to have your permission to use your training video in my classes here in the Netherlands. I think it very important to train this way. Can you send me your details so i can mention them during my lessons. Credits for those who deserve them, Best regards René Meuldijk senior instructor, meuldijkr@gmail.com
Feel free to do so my friend
Badass course fellas! Wish I could run it. Keep up the good work.
I could barely make it through the living room while it's dark.!😂
Any way to get the specs and plans on this maze to build one?
Arick Guzman keep watching the vid and freehand it
How was the trap door built
plywood framed with a 2x4 on a rope that gets pulled out
do you have the plans used to build it and if so, would you share them?
I wish i did. We just eyeballed it with plywood and 2x4's
Good video look like fun training
Where is his tool?
Next time we shall add a tool!
We did this where I’m at, but it was pitch black and sucked.
Thing that strikes me most is that the firefighter is feeling with PALMS of his hands,Here in UK ALL Brigades train to use the BACK of the hand for touch and feel as its far safer especially with possible live wiring ,You would FAIL this test in the UK doing as in the video
@@daveneville7459 well this isn't the UK
The point of this isn’t to get hung up on technique. It’s for new guys to get comfortable moving and fitting into tight spots. Confidence is the goal. Also we recently went to new air packs with larger bottles so it was nice to recalibrate our minds and get familiar with the new setup.
@@markjohnson7712 Yes, we got the latest Scott airpacks I think about five months ago. Amazing tech they put into it.
the thing that bothers me most is the fact there is no sound x_x
youtube took off my staying alive music with sound!
@@markjohnson7712 Why did you have to add a soundtrack? Jesus. The raw footage of the breathing is cool enough. God, everybody with their goddamn soundtracks! Reupload it!
@@rustincohle2135 Hey now, don't bring Jesus into this...
@@markjohnson7712 I will bring Myself up if I feel like it! Don't make Me forsake thee!
