The fallout series lost me after New Vegas since they never even came close to that, imo. V is so good as a Main Character because they CAN'T work as the Tabula rasa, the blank slate that RPG's have given us over the years because we as the audience can never know how it would feel to live in Night City, how they adapted into that world and grew to admire the legends NC had produced... we can only listen to the story.While we may find it easy to imagine someone from medieval times, after playing in that setting for years, future MC's are still a different storry. V was also too good because I played BG3 after Cyber Punk and while I love the game, the fact that my Character just blankly stares at their conversational partner was really killing my enjoyment of it and made me wish I played them in different order. Romance in Bg3 felt empty from the get go and I really felt it made no difference at all while in CP, it can change the ending... shame they missed the oportunity to designate V with any sexuallity, since I really hate rejecting River while im already in a relationship... just listening to this makes me want to jump into my 8th playthrough of Cyber Punk because I miss the sassy, cool bitch I gotten attached to while in BG3 I would need to create a new Character with a backstory that I came up myself, since I dislike origin characters that I can't change in the ways I want.

The comparison is good, but there is an element you are skirting around. The setting. Fallout 4's setting specifically is largely empty. The Commonwealth is mostly empty space with pockets of Raiders/Gunners/Super Mutants. Non-hostile NPC pockets are only in 2-3 major locations until you engage in the settlement mechanics, and even then the NPCs slotted into those settlements are completely generic. Night City is by contrast more densely constructed with more NPCs, many generic ones wandering around, but also more interactable ones.

34:25 FO1 blankly staring, the time limit was like 100 days iirc (though you could expand it by having water merchants trade with the Player's Vault) I think all digital released have a patch that expand it to 500 days though since the 100 day limit was a little too short for some people

never played fallout, but V is awesome, never before have I actually cared about the protagonist of an rpg, even on mass effect, shepard being alive or not the th end of 3 only matters for what will happen to my progress and how others will react, but V? you actually feel their desperation and struggle on the tough moments of the story

yep, since I played mass effect I have a hard time enjoying those "blank slate" characters. Devs should realise you can actually make more meaningful choices on a character with personality

I find myself playing Fallout 4 while watching something else in the background, but Cyberpunk even on replays I play with fully audio and only the game.

20:30 settlement building is definitely clunky. but (funnily enough), with a few mods, you can EASILY build some pretty cool shit. there are even channels dedicated to this side feature alone.

One of the biggest problems remakes can bring is what happened to Dark Souls 2: it was the first one to get a remake with Scholar of the First Sin, but by then they hadn't figured out their online mode with passwords and shit, so even the remaster has the soul memory mechanic where you can accidentally outmatch your friends by earning too many souls and *never* be able to play with them on that character unless they raise their soul memory back to your level. Say, you have 20 tiers and your character is at 19, but your friend is at 18; you would need to create another character and push them through all 17 previous tiers if you want to join your friend, or they'd need to raise theirs, which would be a problem if they're stuck in some specific boss. As a result of this early remaster, DS2 was the only one that didn't abandon this experimental mechanic and now every Souls game besides 2 runs on a much better matchmaking that doesn't have people accidentally shooting themselves on the foot. Why did they remake it? Idk, slightly better graphics I guess.

Haven't played fallout 4 but honestly if someone dumped their entire emotional history on me like that and basically concluded with "marry me" my answer would be no, you are not in any way shape or form emotionally ready for a relationship. You're asking for someone to rescue you.

So I completely agree with this video. I noticed you mentioned Genshin Impact just discarding the other protagonist. Personally, I think the most recent Hoyoverse game Zenless Zone Zero did the dual protagonists much better, you have Belle and Wise your choice has no real impact on the game but each character is unique Belle is a spunky teen who is more funny and impulsive, Wise is more serious and responsible and after you make your choice the other character is still relevant they are your partner in crime, business partner, and sibling. I will admit that it still isn't anything crazy or awe inspiring but remember this is a Gacha game so this shows that even games that would normally would not be held any real standards for storytelling are still doing better. I will also admit that ZZZ has it much easier because the game is much more on rails than games like Fallout 4.

Gary drea's V is one of my favourite performances of all time and he is over hated as hell.

both doesn't work to be honest. İf it is rpg with dialogues than main character shouldn't have any personality because i am the personality my stats and my decisions should change which dialogues will be avaible and how the character will speak. basically d&d style main character. i know it is too much work to create the illusion of having different personalities but it is sellpoint of rpgs. otherwise you just became gta san andreas with some fake dialogue choices. you can make rpg with 0 combat and still make players play it. the mission design of both fallout 4 and cyberpunk is so bad that they don't feel rpg. lets say you have a mission to kill some specific factions leader. person (X). in a poor designed rpg the quest probably have 2 or 3 ending while good rpgs it is more than 5. minimum 5. 1-killing the questgiver lets call him (Y) 2-killing the (X) 3-convincing (X) to play dead 4- telling (X) that (Y) wants to kill him and getting money because of giving this information. 5- Convincing (Y) and (X) to make peace. 6-Convince them to peace but kill one of them later and make every other faction hate them. 7. kill guards of (X) and demand money or becoming leader of that faction.

I mean, DA2's issues were mostly due to EA rushing them and not letting them finish stuff. Hawke was an *amazing* character. (Sarcastic FemHawke is just perfect. lol)

Honestly though. I wish Cyberpunk had did things SLIGHTLY different. I think if you got to actually LIVE that year with Jackie and establishing yourself in night city, It would have been that much more Impactful when what happens to Jackie happens, And even MORE so what happens to V.

My first cyberpunk playthrough i did the panam romance and got the aldecaldos ending, absolute cinema.

i always ignored the fo4 intro and used alternate start for my own story, like a raider outcast from their group for something stupid like tax evasion, as for shaun i was like "sure im your mom now Lemme take over the institute"

The writing and story was never the issue most people had with Cyberpunk. I am so glad they fixed the game.

I mean they are two entirely different genres, and while Cyber punk bills itself as an open world game that "lets you do what you want, and play how you want" the main story is literally one of the most rail roading point a to point b experiences I've ever experienced in a supposedly open world game. Thats not to say there isn't a point to be made. I readily agree the story telling of Cyber punk is far superior. I mean the romance alone is head and shoulders above well, any game out there I've experienced. I have never in my life, and I'm saying this as a guy who has only dated men, felt more attached to a game romance partner the I did romancing Panam. I mean like literally I changed how I played the game and modified my actions to suit her because I cared if she liked me or not like you would compromise with a real life partner. lol That sounds silly but its literally one of the most naturally occurring and unfolding in game romances I think I've ever experienced. Like when the time came to escalate the relationship into a romance it just seemed totally normal and natural to do so. Which highlights one of the strengths of the game. Story telling. Yeah Cyberpunks story telling is just better then fall out 4's. But thats because its a different game. Its weird and inaccurate to say V works better then the sole survivor because thats an apples to oranges comparison, V is meant to be a character in the broader story. The sole survivor is a vehicle for the player to experience the sand box of Fall out 4. its far more accurate to say Cyberpunk is more focused on story telling, and Fall out 4 is far more focused on providing a sand box to play in. These are different things. Also Fallout 4 came out five years before Cyber punk....are you sure your not just using well known properties in the title to solicit more clicks and likes instead of making an actual argument that makes sense?

They are both charicters in sick and dying worlds. It's just in fallout 4 you experiance that world as an outsider. As V you are are a part of that world, you're not trying to save it (arguably that was Johnny's role) you're just trying to save yourself and I think that goes along way to making it feel real. you get pulled into cyber punk because its easy to connect with Vs struggle because its our struggle. I enjoy fallout 4 and other bethesda games but you always feel like an outsider exploring a new world which is fun but its not your world.

one of the things i kinda hate about the sole survivor is you cant save kellogg or have any other choice then to kill him, and then after that quest you hear him again after but only has 1 line, common do some with it.

Phantom Liberty tore my old cynical gamer heart to shreds... Fallout 4... I just enjoyed the game. Very good analysis of how the main character was portrayed.

I can sum this up in way less than 37 minutes.....because nobody had expectations of what the player experience was supposed to be in Cyberpunk, while Fallout 4 had several games before it where the protagonist was not voiced, where the player had a more role playing experience. They changed a successful formula without anyone asking for it, but Cyberpunk was a clean slate. Also because CDPR just do voiced protagonists way better than Bethesda.
