There are many Arirang songs but the common factor of any Arirang songs is to express the sorrow of separation and missing loved ones and hope to meet them (reunite) again. The original meaning of the word "Ar" is spouse for newly wed (like bride or groom). The meaning of "Irang" is "with". However, it represents any loved ones. Arirang Alone focuses more on separation of the north and south Korea. Other Arirang songs (pre-Korean war) typically are for missing any loved ones including during Japanese occupation, war with china, etc.
