This song is the ending song for the new anime Grendizer U (airing starting in late July in Japan) and is a re-telling of an old anime from the 1970's, basically a mecha anime war series about two star crossed lovers in their fight to save earth from invading aliens and the lyrics are directly related to the story line. Thanks again for reacting to Band-Maid, it helps to spread the word about this great band.

The vocals and the solo really stand out for me on this one. Saiki tends to be more reserved in the studio, but she's been refining her technique a lot recently, and seems like she's had a marked improvement in the lead up to the Yokohama Arena show, where she was just on fire the whole time, and I think we're starting to get more of a convergence towards her live energy in the studio. Kanami almost always feels a little rushed in her solos, but this one got some more time to breathe and develop, and the result is great. I think she's underrated as a guitarist because she's a composer first, and very conscious of the band's team effort, so she's hesitant to make a long solo like this, and she tends to get buried in the mix, so you have to kind of consciously listen for what she's doing. Fans who know what to do appreciate her, but it's easy to miss for a first time casual listen. e.g. What she plays in Secret My Lips, or Giovanni is so easy to miss. She also doesn't always do the flashiest stuff for her solos. It's easy to be impressed with people who shred super fast, but it's harder to appreciate what Kanami does with note choice, melody, messing with the timing, etc. Her playing is full of nuance. Ultimately, I think what makes Band-Maid really great is their taste. Other bands can shred faster, blast beat harder, go crazy with vocals, etc., and Band-Maid has tremendous capacity to do things like that, but they have the good taste to keep it restrained to service the listenability of their music. They're very creative, but it's always kept grounded in catchy hooks and melodies. It's like the difference that a great editor makes for writers.
