ha..we stayed at that hotel too but managed to snag one of the rooms right on the beach. Nice place...food was kind of meh but was cool watching the fish while eating breakfast. Plus the snorkelling was great off that beach eh

What???? Stanley Jordan plays Blue Note and 15 people show up?? WTF??

Someone should have filmed this properly and made a dvd release out of this excellent tribute. Seems Stanley is tapping into the vibe which he got as a kid and reliving the love we all have for Jimi Hendrix. Stanley looks the part and love his singing . So what if the place is more than half empty it’s still a great gig .

Sometimes a guy just wants to play a small and more personal gig.

It's crazy to see Stanley play with a pick. I love that dude.

Like I wrote I’ve seen Stanley twice. What just dawned on me - I’ve never seen him do it - but it would be cool if he got a double-neck, say a Rickenbacher - bass players like that company - with a six-string guitar and a bass. I’ve seen a few around. But he could maybe play guitar with his left hand and bass with his right. That would be a real trip because he’d truly be a one-band band nearly then. But he could pull it off because he plays bass lines often with his right hand on his guitar already but instead he’d just play on a real bass, which I think is tuned one octave lower (?). The sound would be incredible. It might have to be custom because I think double-necks sometimes have a switch for the active neck and pickups. He’d just have to let all the pickups be live instead.

When the video first started I thought, “I was there.” But I was at the Blue Note (BN) in Napa, maybe 2018 or 2019 or something? I think it was before COVID. Anyways Stanley is obviously a terrific guitarist and no one really plays like him although there might be some “Stanley Disciples” out there I haven’t seen. But he generally plays with both hands on the fretboard and he usually uses his right hand for bass lines and his left for lead and chords although he sometimes switches that if the song dictates hand position, kind of like you’ll see a piano player do. But I sat pretty close to the front - the BN might hold 100 people or so - and everyone’s fairly close to the stage. But I’ve seen Stanley twice, once at the BN and once at Jazz Alley in Seattle. When I see him I like to sit close so I can see what he’s doing because there’s no one like him in the world really. (Guitarists like EVH used hammer-on-and-pull-offs but Stanley actually “taps” individual notes which is quite different. Think of a pianist except he plays guitar.) (One thing I just noticed: Stanley uses a pick on this song. I can’t recall ever seeing him use a pick before. Maybe he fixes because it’s a Hendrix song?)
