WHAT YEAR DO YOU THINK THIS WAS WRITTEN---Supposedly for the Streetfighter album in 1985, but written by CREWE/NOLAN---had they been writing since Motown--1973?

A TOTAL DISGRACE THAT THIS SONG WAS LEFT OFF THE STREETFIGHTER ALBUM --THEN COMPOUNDED BY NOT EVER EVEN BEING RELEASED AFTER THAT!!!! SOMEONE REALLY MESSED UP BIG TIME THERE----INEXPLICABLE!!!! ONE OF FRANKIE"S BEST RECORDINGS WITHOUT A DOUBT!!!!

Frankie Valli. He was blessed with an inimitable voice and has always subtly adjusted to changing times. The man is a survivor and a musical genius. No other group has ever sounded like Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons; their individual sound emerged no matter what era was shaping them. Think about it. They have always had a singular sound mostly because of Frankie Valli's voice. He is the linchpin of this celebrated musical group. It probably does not need to be mentioned, but there are so few groups that belong in the rock and roll pantheon that had a sound all their own and could not be mistaken for another group. Among them: Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, the Beach Boys. You get the idea. Frankie and all the Seasons (from the beginning) as well as all the band members from the group's inception should be beaming with pride for hanging in this long while remaining relevant and delightfully entertaining. Frankie is one of a kind. I adore him and the Four Seasons!

I wish the writers were included on the doc. But, I guess Crewe/Corbetta/Nolan? Oh. My. Heart! I love this - thanks for the lift!

What a breathtakingly beautiful and tender voice Don Ciccone had. My entire being responded to his exquisite interpretation of this song. From the outside looking in, I have a feeling that Don must have been a highly sensitive and gentle human being. He appears to have had a lovely and responsive soul. And yes, I agree that the piano accompaniment heightened the enjoyment of this unusual song for the Four Seasons. Bravo! This was a gem.

What great backing track if only Frankies voice was over it back to what was the real Seasons harmony and instrumental. My opinion ..

EXCELLENT SOUND QUALITY(to me!) --probably his best performance of this song that I have heard----and the piano accompaniement was a bit different and so good!!! Thanks so much for posting this great audio Ken!

It's interesting to listen to the Four Seasons singing a folk anthem during the period when classic American rock and roll had been pushed aside by folk music and the "British invasion." The Seasons' sound on this is distinctively theirs, and Demetri Callas, who loved what he called "hillbilly music" almost as much as he loved doowop and rock classics, gives a country flourish to his guitar-playing in this rendition. Joe was a brilliant master of ceremonies. He was a charming and talented man.

As an ardent listener (and lover) of music with not much more to commend me, I still feel compelled to write that this group of three melding their voices together is one of the sweetest, richest sounds I've ever heard from the Four Seasons. The blurb above said that Frankie Valli was not present. Each singer's voice harmoniously blends with the other two voices. Does anyone else think as I do that this is an exceptional group sound? At the time of this recording in 1971, are the Four Seasons Frankie, Bob Gaudio, Joe Long/LaBracio and Demetri Callas? I believe it was still a configuration of four, including Frankie. Was there a fourth person joining in? I'd love to know who the singers were on this track. Beautiful!

While it's hard to know where this all would have gone without the spark and polish Bob Gaudio eventually brought to the mega successful Valli it's clear (as he proves to this day) a willingness to WORK was never his short suit. Bravissimo!

Never a fave of mine, though I gave it plenty of spins in the day. I just couldn't hear any 'Seasons' in there. I did find plenty to love in the MoWest records, but this just. didn't. work. for me. Listening now, there's still nothing about it that makes me want to hear it again.

No disrespect to Climax, but this version by Supergroup Frankie Valli and The 4 Seasons is the best.

Great song. Funk with a little bit psychedelia. Awesome lyrics.

So good to hear Joe Long introducing the song as he often did during a concert. His "apology" to Bob Dyan was after singing "Don't Think Twice" in Frankie's Wonder Who voice (copying Rose Murphy). "Don't Think Twice" was an audience favorite and a audience hand clapper and Joe and Frankie always fooled around while singing it ("sing it Shirley"). They did this version of "Blowin' in the Wind" for a year or two in concert as I recall. Demetri coud sing as well as play a dynamite lead guitar. Great memories. Thanks David

Thank you for this. I must admit, however, that when I first heard this song some 50 years ago I wasn't sure what the message was. I first thought Frankie and the Seasons were singing about a girl named Charisma. Is Charisma as pronouced in the song related to the Ukranian energy company named Burisma? Just kidding. Perhaps if Bob Crewe had Frankie and the Seasons pronounce the tite of the song "kuh-riz-muh" I would have gotten it on the first listen. Thanks again for all your work and efforts. David

I don't remember ever seeing them perform this! Ho Lee *Splut*! It'll fit nicely with Salsoul Orchestra's "Magic Bird of Fire" on a playlist. (I don't hear very much of "Warsaw Concerto" in it, but still, YUM!)

Really enjoyed this rather "playful" version of "Charisma'--has Crewe"s fingerprints all over it--Do we know if this version was reviewed by Gaudio, but I am certain he would not have approvrd it either!--- Probably the extended Motown anthology version reminded him of this version, hence its rejection for the Box Set! _ but how did it slip by him for the Motown Anthology CD??!! I assume this mix resulted from the NYC recording sessions at Media Sound studio in NYC Nov/Dec 1973--where did you obtain the acetate? I especially love Nick Massi's vocal arrangements here that are not on the Box Set version--fabulous!!! And you can very clearly hear Nick's -"YEAH" in his wonderful bass tones-----LOVE THIS! --will you try to remaster it?
