BAE Systems Mobile Protected Firepower (MPF) Testbed Vehicle Arrives
The Armor & Cavalry Collection is excited to unveil our most recent arrival to the Tankodrome: the BAE Systems Mobile Protected Firepower (MPF) testbed vehicle.
The U.S. Army's MPF program started in 2015 with the objective to field an armored fighting vehicle capable of providing direct fire support to lighter, non-armored maneuver units. In 2018, BAE and General Dynamics Land Systems (GDLS) were selected as finalists for the competition, and the Army ordered 12 testbed vehicles from each company. After Limited User Testing at Fort Bragg in 2021 through 2022, the GDLS MPF design was selected for production and fielding.
The organization that oversees the MPF Program, Program Executive Office-Ground Combat Systems (PEO-GCS), felt the BAE MPF design had many unique features and coordinated with the Collection to preserve one of the twelve testbeds for historic and research purposes. For the Collection, preserving an example of this vehicle is very important as it started life in the late-1980s as FMC/United Defenses Industries' Close Combat Vehicle Light before being selected as the 1990s Armored Gun System (AGS) designated to replace the M551 Sheridan. Defense cuts caused the AGS program to be canceled, but the design was upgraded and modified by BAE (who acquired United Defense in 2005) for the MPF competition. As such, this vehicle will help teach armored vehicle development from over the last 30 years.

Reinstalling Tiger 712's Tracks

A year ago today, the staff and volunteers of the Collection gathered for a special event: reinstalling the tracks on our Tiger I after nearly a decade off. Here is a recap of that morning as the right side track went on. By the early afternoon, both tracks were installed and the Tiger was ready to move over to our new building, where it currently resides. The Collection's German Tiger I was re...

Wow my great grandfather was part of this, i wonder if he is somewhere in this footage. Just found a lot of his documents and aftwr research discovered he was part of yhe tabk corps and was in Meuse-Argonne and Saint-Mihlel under George S Patton Jr. Always hear about him in WWII but not as much in WWI. Awesome footage

the BAE MPF should have been chosen! Taken out of the competition in March 2022 due to " non compliance " issues. What specifically? BAE, GDLS and the Army are silent and not answering when questions are raised. The fix was in from the get go for GDLS! I wonder how many people in the process got kick backs? The procurement system has been corrupted! Why does Congress been investigating this? Probably made some under the table as well.

@@nubgaming1013 okay.... Just what credentials do you bring to the table being an expert? Gaming? Please do share your knowledge on this subject please. The BAE entrant was an upgraded version of the M8 AGS ( armored gun system ) the Army adopted in the mid 1990s. 82d Airborne and 2d armored cavalry regiment were to receive 237 or so of them. I was assigned to the 82d and involved in the testing ,trials and recommendation process. Outstanding feedback from the soldiers using it. Was cancelled due to budget cuts. Clinton and a GOP Congress . Tradgic if not criminal on both political parties. Shame on all of them!

Bad crew ergonomics, almost 20 tons lighter than the General Dynamics competitor, no stowage space, inside is cramped and packed due to being basically a design from the 80s with modern electronics and systems inside.

if they didn't the army would have scrapped them after the war, the only reason why is because service men said they could be studied after the war for the next generation of designers, hence they needed to cut em to convince them to preserve it for study

Those rubber tracks certainly make a big difference in both the sound and ground impacts of heavy armored fighting vehicles. I'm sure there are compromises with durability, but that was pretty slick.
