Har själv en Singer Nine Sport 1934, såld ny i Sverige, och blir riktigt sugen på att ta med den på en Singerträff i UK.
I'm sitting with an old gentleman in a retirement village here in Stawell, Australia. He had a Singer convertible tourer, he tells me, in 1948, 49, 50. He's been really enjoying these videos and pointing out the cars like he used to have. His was red. He said it had alloy wheels, not spokes? He's turning 101 in December.
Saw one this morning,eye-catching,at antique car show, used as everyday transport.
✨✨✨
I'm in Canada and those are cars I'd like to drive!
I had a 1958 series 3A in Burgundy and a Calvary Beige stripe and boot, I loved it had a overdrive on 3rd / 4th gears. I remember reaching 100 mph down Stag Hill from Potters Bar to Cockfosters ( according to the speedo.) £15-00 road tax for a year and £17-00 full comprehensive insurance also for a year and lastly less than 25p a gallon of petrol those were the days😊
The rear suspension looks a bit tired.is this just a feature of the model and / how cod it be remedied? Beautiful car though really lovely colour combo.
The OHC engine could have been a 1950s version of the Cosworth engine, if it had a twin cam 16v head, over square bore to stroke ratio, high compression pistons (or a Shorrock blower) and side draft Webers. Aluminium block too. 😊
My dad had a Gazelle. His was a 1600. I loved it. He always had a lucky Bull on the dashboard.
👍👍👍👍👍
are new parts for singer cars available?
This brought back some great memories, since I learned to drive in my father's Smoke Green Singer Gazelle IIIC in London almost sixty years ago. That car was taken off the road in the late 70s and is still stored in one of our outbuildings, hopefully to enjoy a full restoration in the next few years!
I wish I had his email address as I would love to forward this one to him. Really enjoy his two stroke turbo channel, too.
I was recomennded this video because I am a sub at 2stroketurbo channel, he has 3 DKW's, a Messerschmitt, an Isetta, a VW powered Vespa coupe, and much more. He is currently enjoying a (B18?) Volvo powered 50's Singer and seems to be having a blast.
When I was very young (I was born in 1965j my father had an early Sixties Singer Gazelle in dark green with a light grey side flash. He replaced it with a Humber Sceptre.
Some odd manufacturers put timing marks on everything!
goodonyamate!
Wao it's too great to see these beautiful gem...
I am Roberto, from São Paulo, Brazil. I have a Singer Roadster 1952, for sell. Somebody interested, please contact me. Thanks.

The Series VI Gazelle was sold as the Hillman Gazelle in Australia with 1724cc Sunbeam Rapier engine.
Hi. I'm looking for a Singer Roadster emblem, the one on the front grill. Could you help me? Do you know where i can get it?
Amazing!! Congratulations!! enjoy it!!
Still amazes me how anyone could afford a car back then. £900 would be the price of a decent house in most parts of the country,. I would settle for this model, after Hillman Minx or Austin A30 and in any colour too. thanks for upload.
My second car was a1962 Singer Gazelle, but with the gear change next to the steering wheel.
Beautiful Roots Group Cars. I really like the Singer Gazelle Series. There so nice. I even have a Gazelle manual which i loaned to my friend when he was restoring his series three convertible about fifteen years ago. And last year i got yet another book on the Roots Group Cars from ebay. Thanks for the nice video. Cheers TC
Brilliant!
To Rootes Group car club, a good friend of mine has many many parts from mostly Singer Gazelle,s , please contact me asap if you are interested in acquiring these parts, otherwise they will end up being thrown out.
Singer Gazelle - upmarket Hillman Minx.
Super, super, super, super!
I've always wanted a cute little roadster like those 😍
Those were the days when I could really enjoy driving. No fast speed. In those days, we had to become one with our cars. I learned to understand my car and my car learned to understand me. PARADISE √
the grille looks like a Jaguar MK-2 or S type grille.
Looking for my old Singer nine sports Reg. EF5241 if anyone out there knows the whereabouts. Have stories from 1965 for the owner. Barry Rogers
I had a maroon Singer Gazelle in 1983. Leather bench seat and handbrake by the driver's seat. "Eyelash " headlight covers and huge steering wheel. Registration 9433 KC. Comfortable and a real head turner. My soon to be ex- husband took it from our garage during divorce procedures and I never saw it again. A huge loss.
Did he say "overhead cam"? I don't think so.
Yes The Singer OHC was superior to the MG OHC .
David, as registrar for the Singer Owner's Club you really should rehearse know you facts far more intimately and stop looking at you clipboard like you know nothing about the cars. Really embarrassing to watch. You can do better.
There is a much easier way to time the Overhead Cam engines. Ian Blackburn's "Smiley face". 1. Turn the crankshaft to TDC (top dead centre) 2. Rotate the camshaft until the cams of No.1 cylinder point to roughly 10 and 2 o'clock, and form an upright V, at which point, the "eyes" of the camshaft should form an upside down triangle, with the top 2 horizontal. 3. Without rotating either cam or crank, rotate the Timing Gear until it pops onto the "eyes" of the camshaft. 4. Bolt into place and Abra Ca Dabra, your engine is timed.
Filmed at the lovely newlands corner
sounds like a singer too
I went into my local Rootes showroom when these cars were new. They had one of the last audax singer gazelle, with the 1725 engine, and one of the first arrow singer gazelle, with just a 1498 engine. If I had had enough money I would have prefered the audax without hesitation! Obviously to me the better car!
17:35 One single example of a postwar saloon, the grp-bodied 1500 cc Singer Hunter.
To be fair, there are plenty of postwar saloons in the video. Actually, the one at 17:35 is not a Hunter, but an SM1500, the model before the Hunter. And the only part of the Hunter's body that was made of GRP was the bonnet lid - the rest was steel. Later models reverted to steel bonnets. My father bought a secondhand Hunter in 1963, and I drove it in the early 70s before it was eventually pensioned off. Nice car.
@@tom0554 by "postwar", I meant the years immediately after WW II characterised by rationing, plastic cars etc.
Show him how to park within the lines
Lovely
Very tidy example!
If he knows these cars and he runs the owners club, he should not be referring or reading off notes off a clipboard
Agreed. This makes s him look ill- prepared and very lacking in knowledge. He should be able to present this without written help if he is such an expert.
My first English car, back in 78, mine was grey with a red stripe running along the sides and red interior . Many, many, times I banged my head on that grill,!
Beautiful Car
In my opinion at the time (as a ten-year old petrol head) the face lift which came to the Audax range in 1965, should have come in 1959.
God bless you all for preserve this National and Global automotive heritage. May the Independence bring back the British Automotive Manufacture & its precious dormant Marques revive the golden days.
