Welcome to the Official Grindhouse Podcast TH-cam Channel. I am CheeseFilm and together with my partner Hecubus, we discuss old cinema!
The FIGHT for GOOD and EVIL The Night of the Hunter (1955)
The Night of the Hunter is a well regarded and very loved film based on a Novel of the same name. Robert Mitchum Stars as what many have said is the most vile and scary villain in cinema. Hecubus and I watch this classic for the first time!! Will we love it? Will we hate it? That is the battle this week on The Grindhouse Podcast!!
The Night of the Hunter is a 1955 American thriller film noir directed by Charles Laughton and starring Robert Mitchum, Shelley Winters and Lillian Gish. The screenplay by James Agee was based on the 1953 novel of the same name by Davis Grubb. The plot involves Harry Powell (Mitchum), a serial killer who poses as a preacher and pursues two children in an attempt to get his hands on $10,000 of stolen cash hidden by their late father.
The novel and film draw on the true story of Harry Powers, who was hanged in 1932 for the murder of two widows and three children in Clarksburg, West Virginia. The film's lyrical and expressionistic style, borrowing techniques from silent film, sets it apart from other Hollywood films of the 1940s and 1950s, and it has influenced such later directors as Rainer Werner Fassbinder, Robert Altman,Spike Lee, Martin Scorsese, the Coen brothers and Guillermo del Toro.
On initial release, the film received generally negative reviews. The poor reaction to its premiere made it Charles Laughton's only feature film as director. However, it has been positively re-evaluated in later decades and is now considered one of the greatest films ever made. It was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry in 1992. The influential French film magazine Cahiers du Cinéma selected The Night of the Hunter in 2008 as the second-best film of all time, behind Citizen Kane. - taken from Wikipedia

Please do the Big Sleep.
That's awesome, we are doing it, a double feature with the big Lebowski at the end of the month.
Trains planes automobiles
Great suggestion. We are doing it for our Thanksgiving episode.
John candy is a legend
An absolute legend! His legacy lives on in all of us!
Always loved that blue eyeshadow on Isabella
I love they way the lighting in the club accentuates the color of her makeup. David Lynch has such a great eye for color!
@@TheGrindhousePodcasthave you watched the breakdown of the coloring in "better call saul"? It was pretty interesting.
I have not, but I’d love to check it out!
I never would have thought about the color in that show. I stopped watching after season 2. Now I have to check that out, thanks 👍
Thanks ❤
love the pod!
And we love you!
Yes and they are so worried about making the most people happy they end up making no one happy
Absolutely agree with the assessment of modern cinema. They're so worried about putting things out quickly that they're hoping people will buy tickets and learn later that it's low quality in theater instead of taking time to produce quality.
Oculus is super underrated in my opinion. Mike Flanagan is one of my favorite horror creators.
Holy crap! You guys are related???!!!?!?
Yes indeed we are!
King Kong 2005 has an extended release that is over 4 hours long. Highly recommend it.
I don't know if you're serious or not, lol. One thing I will say though is Robert Pattinson is a damn good actor. I don't think I can take that much of Kristen Stewart
I recommend trying a little known film series about vampires. It's a small indie film series that didn't get a lot of recognition even though there were multiple films and books. Check out the twilight series.
As a fan it pains me to say this but I have to be honest - Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire is a bad movie. The film is total a mess. It's an overstuffed, poorly paced, confusing, convoluted movie with an unnecessarily complicated plot. There are far too many characters, some of which have been needlessly shoehorned into the story. Many if the characters are also very bland, with very little personality, charisma, likability, humor or chemistry. It's overstuffed with unnecessary dialogue, dull subplots, pointless characters and scenes which go on for far too long. It's not funny either. I didn't laugh once during the movie, and neither did the audience I was watching it with. It's not frightening either. There are no scares in the film. Laughs and scares are two things you expect from a Ghostbusters film, but this latest entry in the series is completely devoid of any. Jason Reitman and Gil Kenan may be talented directors, but they're the wrong people to be writing Ghostbusters films. Afterlife was mediocre at best, but Frozen Empire is just plain bad. With a heavy heart, I rate this film 3 out of 10. I feel a lot of fans are in denial about just how bad this film is.
Hearing the name Roger Corman reminded me of the god awful Carnosaur series

The behavior of the scorpion is exactly what made the jurassic park iterations so much better than the jurassic world ones. Jurassic park treats the dinosaurs like animals. Sometimes they leave the scenes to themselves with no music, like when the rex is hunting and eating the gallimimus. Jurassic world is constantly painting the dinisaurs like pets/higher intelligence/anthropomorphising the behaviors. And every scene needs a triumphant score. Like in fallen kingdom, the rex lets out a triumphant roar after killing the carnotaurus and inadvertently saving the humans.
It’s really interesting when taken into perspective like this. We don’t think movies like The black scorpion would be able to hold up on todays standards and expectations but when you compare the creatures in this and the original Jurassic Park movie, they do feel like real creatures. Attention to detail was given and prioritized in order to help the effect sell the illusion. When we compare this to the modernization of creatures and monsters in cinema, we see them act more like actors in the films themselves. They are more human than creature.
Love that you’re filming now!! I would love to hear your take on Rosemarys Baby & Tales From The Hood (Mine & Tony’s ABSOLUTE favorite horror films, respectively) 🖤🖤🖤
Oohhh both great movies! We will add them to our collection!

On the subject of the directors being restricted, another good example is Jurassic World: Dominion. The director's cut was phenomenally better than the original release.
Dope stuff guys!
