Creating sewing projects that include quilts, bags, scarves, and other sewing projects that make great items you want to keep or give as gifts. There will be many lessons on how to create quilt blocks and how to sew them accurately. This channel will also include reviews of antique sewing machines and information about the different machines. Some sewing machine history will be included from time to time as well. As time goes by, I might include reviews on new sewing machines and the different features.
Don't Buy a Painted Featherweight on Ebay and here's why!
This is a video about my story of how I bought a painted Featherweight on Ebay and then tried to sell it latter on Ebay. It is my personal journey of what happened over this past year. I found out about the many scams people pull to trick you into purchasing a Featherweight without refurbishing the sewing machine.

This is a video where we test a 1874 Singer New Family Sewing Machine while sewing a log cabin block. This video isn't a tutorial on how to sew a log cabin block but if you like to sew one that we made in the video. Go to the Accuquilt Log Cabin Die and see their tutorials on how to make their block. I used the Accuquilt Go Cutter to cut the pieces for the block. Here is a link to their website...

I have a little toy Pfaff one, and I am having trouble getting it to stitch. So, I am researching. Your Singer is lovely.
I hope you can get it to work again. They are such cute baby sewing machines. Thanks so much for watching!
I learned to sew on a Morse machine that looked very similar to that, but green. I wish I hadn’t sold it in a garage sale 40 years ago!
I know how you feel. I got rid of a Singer 401 a long time ago and I missed it later on. Thanks so much for watching!
Great instructions. Even the mistakes help all of us
Thanks for watching, I had fun designing the project.

Try eBay maybe one will pop up. Good luck! Thanks for watching!
Awesome strictly awesome
Thanks it’s a wonderful machine. Thanks for watching!
Are all the machines in this style design, the bronze ones?
I don’t know but this was a special bronze sewing machine to celebrate an anniversary.
I just acquired an all black 1928 white sewing machine company. Exactly the same as this one but black.Motor is shot going to try to fix it up.
Nice
Thanks!
To me the drive to make a better machine was overcome by the drive to make a cheaper machine seems to be between the 401A, 403A and the 401G, and higher numbers. they came very close to making "the perfect machine" but didn't quite get there.
Yeah and to make machines cheaper they started including plastic parts and those parts don’t hold up. Thanks so much for watching.
Love those sewing machine because it sews any fabric
Nice! I have never used one yet.
Thanks for sharing that beautiful machine!
Just bought one!
Nice I hope you get a lot of projects done with your Wheeler and Wilson D 9!
@ not sure I will ever get it running but it’s really pretty decor for now!
Just bought one!
Congratulations I hope you enjoy it for many years!
Thank you for sharing your story with us so we can learn from your experience and know what to watch for! I can’t imagine how excited you must have been, and then to have that ruined would be so disappointing. I’m sorry you didn’t have a good experience. Maybe the next one will be better. I’m new to your channel and am enjoying seeing your different machines, you’ve got some beauties!
Thanks so much. Yeah I learned a lot. I will from now on leave all the sewing machine buying to my sister. Welcome to the channel and thanks so much for watching!
I found a 206DG in a dumpster today in Martinique. Unfortunately I have no where to store it as I live on a boat otherwise I would have taken it and restored it.
So lucky you live on a boat! Lots of people buy Sailrite sewing machines to repair sails, upholstery, and whatever they need to sew on a boat. I haven’t featured the Sailrite yet on the channel but I will in the future. I hope that machine got rescued. Thank You so much for watching!
In fact, there were only a half dozen or so Japanese sewing machine manufacturers. It's just that they were badged as hundreds of different brands. The more powerful motor was for the American market and the (American-made) motors were added after the machines were imported. In Japan, 1 AMP was as powerful as the motors got (with the majority being 0.65A - 0.8A). As for the vibrant colors, that was a customization request by the importers. The vast majority of the Japanese domestic market machines were painted in an understated and conservative manner. (The 15-91 does have the drop-feed option. It's located under the machine.)
Thanks for the information! I find the sewing machines made in Japan so interesting and you can still get them for a reasonable price. Thanks for the information that was really helpful.
Very nice! My wife used to take hers to her quilting classes and quilting clubs because of its relatively light weight. Great machine!
Yeah the 301 is a really nice machine. You have a lot more room to sew than a featherweight and it has a handle to carry it places. It is my favorite machine! Thanks so much for watching!
Love the 319 & 320 machines! A Cutex #173058 bobbin case allows the use of any standard class 15 needle. Replacing the loose & noisy cloth/staple timing belt with a nice tight quiet running rubber belt is next. Then replace the weak/tired 1/2 amp motor with a 5,500 rpm 1 amp motor with a high-quality electronic foot controller (avoid the cheap super high rpm chinese motors & contollers as they are garbage) and you end up with a smooth, versatile, powerful, and reliable machine that will sew circles around any modern plastic piece of junk made today. We actually use the 320 more than any machine in our vast collection. The freearm is indispensable when you need it, and the bobbins are accessible from the front without having to tip the machine back. Our 319 & 320 run so well that we sold our two 401's and hardly ever use our 201's anymore...
Yeah the 319 really sews fast. I love that machine too! Thanks for watching!
@@artillerybuff2000 Where does one find high quality motors and controllers?
@marksmale827 Alphasew's are really good, but a little too fast at 7,000+ rpm's. Feitsew makes a really nice high power motor that is rated at 5,500, which I think is perfect; they are made in Taiwan. The cheaper controller pedals are like on-off switches with little to no variable speed. The electronic controller give very precise control.
@@artillerybuff2000 Thank you. I got a more powerful Alphasew motor fitted to a S201, which I always think are a little underpowered given how robust they are. It works great.
We have an 1865 Singer new family model 12 handcrank in a coffin case that is in nearly perfect condition that looks like it's never been used. It sews beautifully, amazing for being 160 years old! Do you think any of the expensive $2,000+ modern-day computerized sewing machines will still be working in just 20 years? My wife also has her professional seamstress great-great aunts 1919 Singer 66 Treadle that was used for full-time garment making (had an electric Hamilton Beach motor added somewhere along the line) that has most of the paint & decals worn off from many decades of hard use, and it still sews beautifully! These old machines never wear out.
That is so great! Nope all the computer machines will go away in less than 20 years or so. Mechanical metal sewing machines will outlive any modern sewing machine. Thanks so much for watching!
Thank you for this information. Scammers are proliferating, good grief! Glad you like your machine. Featherweights are great little sewers and yours is so pretty!
I know I was surprised too especially about the serial number. Thanks so much for watching!
Thx for your story!!
Your welcome! Thanks for watching!
Can you please tell me where you got the purple rubber ring and purple spool felt?
I bought it on Etsy at this link: www.etsy.com/listing/1058358126/new-colors-bobbin-winder-tire-one-of
Thank you!! @@myersdesignstudio
She is pretty
I have an 1883 New Home. Bought at a flea market. I’m going to try to renovate it but even if I can’t, I’ll keep it because it’s so pretty. My body is much more stylised with squared edges to tge body.
I hope your restoration project goes well and you can get it sewing again. It took my sister a while to restore the one on the video. Thanks so much for watching!
@@myersdesignstudio thanks for your reply. I’m missing one of the sliding covers for the bobbin area. I live in South Africa so it’s going to be a very lucky day to find one here. My husband says getting one made is highly unlikely so I may have to import from Europe or the USA IF I can find one.
He is right. It is hard to find parts in the US as well. Keep looking on EBay or go to the VictorianSweatShop.com forum to see if you can get parts there. The older sewing machines are hard to find parts.
She’s beautiful! 🤩
She is pretty! Thanks so much for watching!

Thank You I hope you enjoy making the Dahlia quilt.

I know it’s a lovely machine! Thanks so much for watching!
I got a 319w during the pandemic with the table and all the attachments. I love this machine but still have yet to actually sew stuff w/ it. Just need to figure out what needle, if it needs work (it runs, motor and all though). The motor seems to run slower than some of my other machines but maybe that's how it was manufactured? Its like a .90 amp or something, so i imagine they don't run as fast? I bought it from this couple for $40! Score. :))
I think in my first video of the 319 my sister mentions how to set the machine up to take regular needles. The machine is pretty fast. Perhaps the motor on your machine needs to be serviced and cleaned. Thanks for watching.
@@myersdesignstudio Thank U! I'll check out tht video. The motor is hard to tell but it may also just be the speed at which it was made. I have machines that are 1.2 to 1.4 amps (all vintage, mostly kenmores). At closer inspection, the 319 is a whopping .53 amp. I am accustomed to faster running motors, i think. lol
319s are my favorite sewing machines! I'd love to hear all about them, the more, the better!
Yeah the 319 is great.
I have the Morse FA630 Model, since it's the same brand, do you know if the singer brand presser foots work for this specific brand of machine? If not, do you recommend any brands?
Sorry I am not familiar with that model. Perhaps try the Victorian Sweatshop forum to see if anyone there might know.
Love my Blk featherweight but would like to find a white one (64) reasonable. Very interesting history, not many know GE made the Sew Handy, forerunner of the featherweights! thanks,
It is an interesting history glad you enjoyed the video!
Do you sell the vintage machines?
No I don't sell them currently. My sister fixes up vintage machines and rescues most of them. I hope you enjoy the machines we have on the channel.
Is this one for sale?
No it isn’t for sale.
I have multiple brother class 15 that I’d love to get the matching rubber wheel for the bobbin winder for! Can I know how/where you got them? Thanks!
I bought mine from a seller on Etsy. www.etsy.com/shop/SewingMachRepairGuy
I would die for this machine!
I know she is a pretty machine and the radio dial is super unique. I wish they would put that much effort in the modern machines. I generally don’t advertise machines for sale on the channel. Thank You so Much for watching!
Where did you get the colored rubber wheel and the matching felt pads?????
This model is still available in my country's market and my mom has the exact same model in the video.
Nice! That machine will last forever! Thanks so much for watching
🍜🌌It reminds me of a 50s car. So beautiful 💛
I know that sewing is beautiful! I love the color. I think I would buy modern machines if they went with stronger colors. Thanks so much for watching!
Don’t you think the heat from the light on the first feather weight could be the reason for the cracking of the stalactites
Not sure but I will look into it.
Any sewing machine made in Japan is on par with Swiss engineering. I have a Sears Kenmore from the 60's that runs like nothing.
I know they are great machines. I love using them. Thanks so much for watching!
Superb video
Thank you so much 😀
Now I want it
I just watched another video showing how to install magnetic purse clasps... and this seems like the perfect place to use them!
The thing on the side of the case is for the plate that extended the arm For flat sewing. My understanding it was the last machine will all metal parts. The pole thingy in the back is to attached the accessory case
Nice thank you.
I purchased my 730 in 1976, it was 15 years old then.. still love it!
Wow that is so great.
Hi thats for keeping the extension table safe for moving the machine. Be very careful to make sure you have the correct spools, you’d most likely find the instructions on the internet. Just to tell you I’ve got one of these a year before this came out, I bought this model fir my daughter, both where bought in 1962 and we’re still sewing with both machines. Best machines we ever bought. Good luck, “The Midnight Owl”
I hate it when people just show how a machine looks. As if that were the most important thing, when that decision depends on how it works, the quality of the stitch and its functions, the types of fabric it can sew, etc. With all that you talked about the history of the machine, you could have put a piece of fabric under the presser foot and shown it. A picture is worth a thousand words.
Thanks so much for watching. I try my best to do projects with all the vintage machines. I will make a note to showcase the different stitch functions in the future.
On the motor there is a foam like thing what is it called and what can I do to replace it?
I don’t rebuilt motors but I would check out Nova Montgomery’s videos. She specializes in featherweights here is the link: youtube.com/@novamontgomery5374?si=QSPztRN5AcONxUlX I hope this helps. Thanks so much for watching!
