go to some rivers under bridge overpasses, and look for shallow pools where minnows are trapped, and then bucket up a bunch. take those and try to get those ones to breed because the bait shop minnows are likely not going to get it done right, and they may not even survive in a real pond due to their selective breeding. there are millions of wild minnows in rivers nearby and they are amazing hobby breeder fish! fun for small aquariums or breathing life into dead water.
