Not mullet in that throw-net mate - but threadfin salmon (the smaller species/variety). That's why they were "big mullet". Excellent eating.

Why not live-bait your catch? You took it fresh from your cast net. And you know (your shark bay whiting = pink snapper) how much more effective a livie is.

heading to the NT on the 14th of october. Not sure if its closed season wanted to ideally target Barramundi., or any other species that are worth it in the lakes rivers or ocean. any tips from anyone? dont have a boat. so will be doing charters and shore fishing if its safe to do so. thanks
